I won't be surprised when they make a move in December or January.
But I'm still not convinced they'll be in on the big big names.
SOUTH SIDE
6:30
Thoughts on the hiring of Hitch over other possible coaches?
Gavin Lee
6:30
To continue on this, I wonder if Chiarelli was even given the green light to hire a more long-term fit.
6:31
If he wanted Quenneville, for example, he would have had to wave a 3-5 year contract in front of him worth big money.
If you were the upper management group, wouldn't you say no? Knowing that you might have to fire Chiarelli at the end of the year.
Hitch is the last bullet in the chamber.
SOUTH SIDE
6:34
Is Rattich as good as his record or is he just getting tons of support from a strong Flames offensive
Gavin Lee
6:35
Rittich is a very good goaltender, but it'll be hard to keep an ~.889 win percentage.
Still, he is giving the Flames exactly what they needed to become a contender.
6:36
A good defense with a reliable goaltender and strong offensive attack? That sounds like playoffs.
(Perhaps I'm biased because I picked Calgary for the Cup final in the summer of 2017 and was so very wrong)
GORTON
6:39
hmmmm do i move a big name soon ?
Gavin Lee
6:39
No reason to rush those moves. There will be plenty of suitors closer to the deadline.
6:40
But it will definitely happen.

Who are the next 3 coaches fired?
Gavin Lee
6:40
Couldn't even ask for just one?
6:41
Have to think Hakstol is gone if things go south in Philly.
Steve
6:42
Could Toronto package Nylander and a 1st to LA for Doughty?
Gavin Lee
6:42
If Doughty wanted to leave LA he wouldn't have signed a massive contract extension.
I'd put that deal as about the furthest thing from possible, but I guess nothing really is.
SOUTH SIDE
6:43
Gavin what team(s) do you follow
Gavin Lee
6:43
All of them. It's my job.
6:44
The more I do it, the less I find myself liking any individual team.

What is your prediction for William Nylander?  Does he re-sign, get dealt, or does the deadline pass without a contract?
Gavin Lee
6:51
I still think the most likely scenario is he re-signs.
I know that's hard to believe with just a few days left before the deadline, and not any apparent movement.
6:52
But it just seems like such a mistake to move him unless you're getting a great talent back, and sitting out a year doesn't help his leverage at all.

6:52
If he's going to re-sign, does a long-term deal get done or a bridge contract?
Gavin Lee
6:53
I'd expect a much shorter deal at this point.
Hard to believe that they'd be able to work out a long-term deal in the next few days, if they really haven't been close yet.

6:54
The west is terrible at this point. Who gets out of it in April to make the playoffs
Gavin Lee
6:55
I don't know if I'd call it terrible. There are some very strong teams in the Central.
Let's make wild predictions.
6:57
Predators
Jets
Avalanche
Wild

Sharks
Flames
Oilers
Coyotes
6:58
I still see the Predators and Jets as the class of the West, but the Avalanche have so much firepower up front that they would be scary to face.
The Wild still have to prove they're more than just a regular season team.
Sox
6:58
Any bruins news regarding trade interests ?
Gavin Lee
6:59
None, other than the fact that they've sniffed around about secondary scoring. Haven't seen any reports of real focused interest though.
