Do you think Liover Peguero could start at 2nd?

Was the Santana signing an attempt to cut down on k’s by the younger players?
Peguero
1:51
Is he going to switch positions or trade bait ?
Darragh McDonald

Whoops. Meant to bunch all the Peguero questions together, didn't realize they were mostly coming from the same person. I need to pay more attention to the names of the questioners.
1:52
Anyway, Peguero struggled a bit in Double-A last year, so I don't know I'd probably bet against a significant contribution this year. He still has a couple of options and probably needs to show a better approach since he's never walked much.

Sorry I didn't mean to blow up the Peguero chat.

My bad!

No way Nutting offers me 12/600 right?  Would make sense for all 32 teams, but could really energize a team like the Pirates. Spoiler: He won't, and I don't want to work there.

If we were to rank all the teams and their likelihood of signing Ohtani, the Pirates would have to be near the bottom. Sorry.

Hi Darragh. When does Henry Davis make the Bigs? Full-time catcher?
Darragh McDonald

I would lean towards 2024. He only played about 60 games last year, with only about half of those at Double-A. He's also got Endy ahead of him.

One of the things I've seen about the Pirates system recently is their deep depth vs lack of top end talent. Is that a good thing? When I hear that worry because you need star power, and depth is easier to come by.

I think there's still star potential there. Cruz and Hayes could be stars with a few adjustments. Endy or Davis are among the best catching prospects in the game. Further down the line, you've got Termarr and whoever they take with the #1 pick this summer.

Love some great defense.

I agree, Fatty.

Hayes glove is great but what becomes of him if he hits 230 with under 8 home runs again. Does the glove really make up for the weak bat
Darragh McDonald
2:01
He produced 3.0 fWAR last year, even with a subpar bat. So, he'd still be valuable, yes. That's why a little offensive tweak could be huge.

Any chance of a salary cap floor? Nutting shouldn’t be able to use a publicly funded stadium as his piggy bank.
Darragh McDonald
2:02
I wouldn't hold my breath on a salary floor. The players would probably love it, but the owners always insist on a floor going hand-in-hand with a cap, which the players have no interest in.

Is there an owner in baseball more detested than Bob Nutting?
Darragh McDonald
2:05
I don't know how you'd measure this, but I would guess he's up there. The Castellinis and John Fisher would likely be in the conversation, and a few others I'm probably forgetting.

You're very welcome, Bob. It was my pleasure! These are always fun! But I do have to get back to the site now. Sorry for all the questions I couldn't get to.
2:06
If you're interested, MLBTR does more chats just for Front Office subscribers. It's easier to get a response there because there are fewer questions.
And there are many other benefits as well, which you can peruse here.
2:07
We will also be doing these chats for the other 29 teams over the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for those. Have a good one!
