Frank Novak
He may be a few starts there and go to Sacramento
10:21
I noticed Whisenhunt aced his first turn at AA
Strakman
10:21
That's asking a lot of those youngsters to navigate during the heat of a playoff race.
Frank Novak
10:20
Although this might not be an issue all season. Kyle Harrison and perhaps Keaton Winn and even Carson Whisenhunt might be able to take rotation spots by august.
Strakman
10:20
Yes, if one of the top three goes down or starts falling apart, they got trouble.
10:19
Manaea has looked better mechanically since coming out of the pen, but Giants need to see if that can translate to starting again. Will be interesting to see how Strip does when he gets back.
Frank Novak
10:19
Theyre leaving themselves with potential peril if one of the three decent to good SPs goes down IMHO
Strakman
10:18
That's true, Frank, 1986.
Frank Novak
10:18
To me they just gotta start by pulling the trigger on Manaea making a start again. See what happens.
Strakman
10:17
With the BP coming along now, the biggest ifs seem to be in the rotation after Webb, Cobb and Disco. It's looking more to me that if Zaidi is going to reinforce the team via trade it will be with starting pitching.
Frank Novak
10:17
Reality is, the Giants haven’t unleashed this many rookies on the club since 1986. Even the previous core they came up in successive seasons mostly. Not all at once.
But all in due time
10:16
I mean the four of them do make you think, ok, who else you got
10:15
I noticed this in AZ in the spring
Strakman
10:15
I agree with you on Schmitt. His glove is a huge plus too.
Frank Novak
Sabol is also a big energy guy
And Sabol can hit.
Walker has an interesting arsenal
10:15
Schmitt is hitting a slight skid, but he hasn’t yet hit a prolonged slump. So far he’s also shown a good clutch gene and the players seem to like him too
Strakman
Giants seem to have a good thing going with the four rookies: Bailey, Schmitt, Sabol and Walker.
10:14
Yes, he's highly polished for a rookie.
Frank Novak
He doesn’t operate like a rookie.
10:13
The guy looks like he’s been in the majors 3-4 seasons
Strakman
10:13
I'd agree with that.
Frank Novak
10:13
His eye at the plate appears to be better than Bart’s.
10:12
(.250 with power and decent OBP- which he seems like he’s gonna have)
Strakman
10:12
Right now, I think Bailey and Schmitt are about even as to who is the best Giants rookie. Also, the reliever Walker has been very good to date.
Frank Novak
10:12
He’s a rook, he’s not gonna hit .300 all season. I mean I’d love it if he did, but the work is so good in terms of pitch calling and defense that if he bats .250 I’m happy. .260-.270 I’m ecstatic. Anything more and I’m floored.
Strakman
10:10
Yes, he seems to relate well with the other players, and the pitchers seem to like him a lot.
Frank Novak
They know him better than we do so you gotta look at that
The dugout seems to like him up there
10:10
I think Bailey has been a big boost
Strakman
10:09
Bailey knows how to handle a bat, and that should help his overall hitting.
Frank Novak
10:09
Wade is still very much a platoon bat but that’s the lions share of the platoon
Strakman
10:09
How big a deal do you think Bailey has been for the team? To me, he's been huge, though his sample size hitting needs more fleshing out. His catching is fantastic.
Frank Novak
10:08
Yeah Wade is still very much a platoon bat, but that’s the lions part of the platoon
Strakman
10:08
Slater has started off well this year.
10:07
Wade is a lot better against righties than lefties even this year. He's tearing up the righties so far this year.
Frank Novak
10:05
Estrada has no platoon spilt at this point, so he really can be in there as often as possible. And you have seen them do that.
10:04
Slater is equally as good as the other half of the de facto leadoff platoon
