As for that number I don't know off the top of my head, but you can find it in our Career Services survey results, here: https://www.vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/surveys.php#GradStudent

I will be taking the second GRE prior to the application deadline for the MCIT. However, I was considering submitting the application now with my initial GRE score. In that case, would I be able to report this updated score after application submission? Or would it be recommended I submit the application only after taking the second GRE?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:50
Neel, you would be able to submit the second GRE score for consideration. However, we do consider all applications final upon submission, so there is no guarantee that the 2nd score would be considered in the final application review.

The most I know about Philly is that M.Knight lives there and he is one of my favorite directors, but I did meet few people from Philly when I went and presented papers  at International Conferences outside my country

Shreyas, that is terrific! He is quite an interesting person and always makes a point of shooting his films in Philadelphia. It is quite a good time to be in the city, as we also have a lot of industry development that is happening, especially as part of the Pennovation Center, https://www.pennovation.upenn.edu/

Thank you for your response Will. If I wanted to attempt pursuing the degree in a year (fall, winter, summer) or over 3 full semesters, might that be possible?

Additionally, regarding research with a professor, will my academic advisor be the professor I will work with for my thesis as well?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:53
Benjamin, yes, it is possible. You would coordinate this with your program, because it can be a tad tricky depending on which courses are available each semester. As for the Thesis question, this ultimately depends on the area of interest for your thesis and specific research matter.

Hello Will, I'm applying for MSE in Data Science for submatric. I wonder whether there is an acceptance rate difference between submatriculation and the normal Data Science Program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:54
Xiya, yes, there is a difference, as the rate is much higher. However, please note we haven't had many submatric applicants because the program only started full-time a year ago.

I don't have transcript and it takes a month or so to reach me can i apply for MS in EMBS?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:55
Yogeshgudi, we need at least unofficial transcripts as part of the application. Are you able to provide those?
yogeshgudi
10:57
consolidated marksheets?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:57
Yes, if they show scores for all of the courses you have taken, they would be acceptable.

Thank you. Could you also comment on the application statistics like acceptance rate for Data Science submatriculation last year?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:58
Xiya, I don't have those specific numbers available at this time.

i have individual semester marksheets but not transcripts
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:58
Yogeshgudi, as long as they show the scores/grades for each of your courses, that would be acceptable.

As the application requests for me to name 2 advisors I am interested in working with, I wonder if the admissions process requires the professor to have sufficient spots in their lab group to take me in, or are students admitted before they are assigned an academic advisor to oversee the program? As I will draft my SOP differently in each of those scenarios. Thank you.

Great Mr. Fenton. My main research interest is autonomy especially autonomous cars..but when I asked Charity Payne, they said that no research is being made on autonomous cars , as of now. But I did find that Dr. Pratik Chaudhari who is joining UPenn in July 2019 , his research is mainly on self-driving cars from his research statement(https://www.grasp.upenn.edu/people/pratik-chaudhari). I am just curious about self-driving cars research at UPENN after he joins

Benjamin, naming a professor or two can be a good strategy, but we usually only recommend it if you know that you specifically want to work only with that professor and/or have a specific connection to that professor. As to the other question, you are assigned an academic advisor after you have been admitted.
11:01
Shreyas, that is great that you've already reached out to Charity. Yes, we do believe that there will be more research in this area once Dr. Chaudhari begins his work here, but I can't comment any more than that at this time.

I find that the deadline is Feb 1. Does it mean that we can still submit it on Feb 1? Or we must finish it by Jan 31?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
11:01
You can submit your application and all materials until 11:59PM EST on February 1.
11:02
Ok, that's all folks, thanks for chatting. We will be running an all day chat on this Friday, February 1, from 8AM EST-4PM EST to answer any last minute questions you may have. Best of luck to you all!
