Hello Will,
I am working on submitting an application for the PhD program for Bioengineering . When I took my GRE a few weeks ago, I sent my scores to the University of Pennsylvania and specified a Biomedical Engineering department (2926, 1603), but I did not use the correct code of 2888. Do I need to resend my scores for an additional fee, or will the correct program still be able to access them?

Hi Guest. Thanks for applying. We should receive them, no problem. If there is a slight delay, it shouldn't prevent us from starting our review if you included the unofficial scores on your application. You can also log into your application account and check to see if we have your official scores matched: https://www.applyweb.com/upenng/index.ftl

Hi Will! I am applying for the PhD program in CIS. One of my letter writers is busy in a conference and mentioned he might be late to submit the letter by a few hours or upto a day. Would my application still be considered in that case?

Guest, our deadline is 11:59PM EST on Dec 15. We do not normally accept any items submitted after the deadline, including the letters. I would contact them and implore them that we consider it a hard deadline.

Will GRE scores sent to 2926 be received at the bio engineering

James, yes, we will still get scores sent to that code as well.

I will like to know if UnPenn accepts a 2.98 for a Graduate Study in Data Science
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
2:07
Adaranijo, the Data Science MSE program has been our most competitive master's program since it started, with less than 10% of applicants accepted. We don't have a GPA requirement, but that GPA would definitely be the lower side of what might be considered.

**sorry for the typo. I am applying for the Masters program in Materials Engineering, and I live in Wilmington, DE. What is the parking situation like? Is it possible to commute by car and have a guaranteed spot every day?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
2:09
Mike, it is possible to commute by car. To guarantee a spot I'd recommend getting a spot in one of the lots/garages, as parking around school  on the street is mostly pay-as-you-go. You can find more info here: https://www.facilities.upenn.edu/maps/parking

Hi Will, I hope you are doing great! I am a prospective student for the Data Science program. I have an application specific question: I switched program in my online application after my recommenders have submitted their letters for me, would that potentially be a problem? Also, are the personal notes I sent along with the recommendation invitations visible to the admission committee? I mentioned the program I choose previously so I'm worried that it would cause confusion. Thanks!

Yanqi, I'd recommend sending an email to admissions2@seas.upenn.edu and asking us to note this on your application, so that the reviewers will understand in case one or more of your recommenders mention the other program.

My first question is does the Master's program for Systems Engineering have any explicit prerequisites? The website for the program states that common enrolling majors are engineering, math, economics, and other disciplines that may have received quantitative preparation but it doesn't give any specific courses. My questions then are is there any specific courses I need for enrollment in the Master's? If so, would I be able to take them following admittance? And would a research-focused social science be applicable for entry?

Hi Melanie. There are no specific pre-reqs. Did you see this on their program site, under Prereqs: Entering students generally have baccalaureate degrees in the engineering, mathematical, physical or economic sciences. Students with degrees in other fields who have expertise in quantitative and computer analyses also enter the program?
2:12
Sorry, I misread your 2nd part; you have seen it :) No, there are no specific courses you need to enroll to qualify for the masters. We don't have conditional admission, so if you are admitted you are admitted to the full program and aren't required to do additional work before the program begins. It is quite possible that your background would be fine. That's one of only several pieces that are considered when they review your application.
