I'm sorry, you said Robotics has far lower admission rates. Do you mean it is more competitive and has less acceptance rates?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:06
Aniket, yes, that is correct. The rate for Robotics last year was approx 16% and for EE MSE was approx 45%.

Hi Mr. Fenton,
Good morning, I have completed my application for MCIT's early decision review and I am curious if there is a stringent line on the AWA score. I have seen the avarage admission statistics is 4.0 for AWA section. Yet, I found some unofficial information that there is an underlying cut-off line on the AWA (seems to be 3.5?). Would you be able to share some more information on this? Thank you.

Hi Leo, you can find admissions stats for the MCIT program here: https://www.cis.upenn.edu/graduate/how-to-apply/admissions-statistics/. As for how that factors into the decisions, I am unable to share that specific information.

I would like to do Robotics, and is there any scholarship opportunities available?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Ranjitroshan, we do not offer financial aid for master's students.

am applying for the Computer science master program at your university.    I am not sure if I should add my education history on my application. This is a complicated situation. I join the program that is called "2+2". This means I took 2 years in Northeast Normal University(China), and 2 years at Kennesaw State University. However, the transcript which I upload contains courses from Kennesaw and transfer courses from Northeast Normal University. I want to know If I need to upload new transcripts of Northeast Normal University.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Hao, if all of your courses from Northeast Normal University show up on your Kennesaw State University transcript, then you do not need to submit an additional transcript.

Hi Akshaya

I am trying to apply for Upenn CIS PhD program and I was wondering if only having a BEng would put me in any disadvantage. And I am also curious on how crucial is having a publication a determining factor in PhD admission
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:15
Khang, yes, we take students with only a Bachelors in Engineering all of the time. I don't have specific information about the determining factor for PhDs, but I am sure it doesn't hurt.

I am applying SCMP in Penn. I wonder if this program adopt rolling admission. Shall I submit as early as I can?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:17
There is not rolling admission, we have specific dates that the decisions are released. For SCMP, we have two deadlines, the early one was Nov 15, and that has passed. The next date is March 15, and there are several release dates for that. You can find them here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/

I am applying for the MSE in robotics program. How important is it to have multiple publications at the time of application? Is contacting prospective professors who can be your supervisor advised?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:21
Ahshaya, we review the entire application as a whole, so while having more publications will help, it is not a requirement. And you are welcome to contact any currently faculty members with questions. However, they may not reply right away, as this is the busiest time of the year.

Will, I am a bachelor in Instrumentation and Control Engineering, applying to MS in EE with 8-9 months of experience in a start-up. Would my bachelor's course be a hurdle for this course? If yes, any other equivalent program that you would suggest?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:25
Aniket, we look at the entire application, including your degree and courses you took, so I can't really say if your degree would be a specific impediment or not. It really depends on what you want to do in the program and once you've completed it which may influence the best program for you.

I have a doubt regarding reporting my GRE score. I have taken the test on 26th November this year (two weeks ago). I just received the official scores yesterday, and I ordered them to be sent to UPenn (code:2888). The status is still  pending to be sent from ETS to UPenn. Should I worry if the official scores will arrive UPenn after the deadline even though if I took my exams before the deadline? Thanks a lot for your time
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:28
Simon, you can email gradstudies@seas.upenn.edu, and we can look further into this. However, if you submitted your unofficial scores on your application you should be fine, as we will begin application review with those  scores.

AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Yuxin, all applications submitted between Nov 16 and Mar 15 will receive decisions after that time.

Mr. Fenton,
Good morning, I am applying for Material Science and Engineering PhD program and I am curious if there is a chance for me to be admitted by MS program if I am rejected by PhD. Should I start two applications for both PhD program and MS program? Thank you.
