  1. I am from India and my transcript is in English. Do I still have to enroll myself for Transcript Evaluation Services?
  2. If so would do you need the results from Evaluation services before the application deadline or once after the admission is offered ?
  3. Do the recommenders need to give the letter of recommendation before the deadline?
  4. Do you offer admission in a rolling basis
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:03
Hi Kirthika. 1) No, you do not. 2) See #1, 3) Yes, we must receive the letters of recommendation by the application deadline. 4) No, we have set days when decisions are released. You can find those, along with the two remaining deadlines, here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/

Hi Will, I read online that the MCIT had to be completed within a maximum of 7 years. Does this mean that in theory, a student could start the 1st year, and complete a certain number of required courses, take a break for a few years, and then return to complete the masters?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:04
Hi guest - in theory, yes. However, you have to have a relatively good reason to request a leave-of-absence from the program for a couple of years if you were going to do this.

Hi will, could you share the application rate for MSE in systems engeering of last year, thanks.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:05
Sure, Sicheng. Last year we had 264 applications and admitted about 45%.

I'm applying to the robotics engineering masters. I need to know about what to put in the application spot for the personal statement. The confusion is on the website there are two specific essays but only one spot in the application.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:06
Philliip, can you point me to the two spots where you are finding different information for the personal statement? As to what we look for, you can find that information here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/, under the "Personal Statement," section.

Hi Will, I'm interested in applying master in System Engineering, but I can't find info about career support on the intro website. Could you tell me something about it? Like, is there a career center for System Engineering program or Engineering school or students in System Engineering use the career services of UPenn?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:07
Kai, we have an engineering-specific Career Services office. They offer engineering-specific career services for all of our students.
10:08
You can find more information about there services here: https://careerservices.upenn.edu/

For the MCIT, is it possible to complete some summer courses (courses which are accepted as part of the 10 course requirements for the masters) and have those count towards the degree, or do only courses taken in the fall/spring count?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:09
Hi Guest. Yes, it is possible to take summer courses that count towards the degree. This can change every year, as the courses offered over the summer semester may change year-to-year.

Dear Mr. Fenton,
I am applying for the Computer Graphics and Game Technology Program (CGGT) but, since my undergraduate degree is not CS/CIS-related, should i also apply for the Master of Computer and Information Technology Program (MCIT) or is that program automatically applied?

Secondly, if it is automatically applied, will i have the choice to complete the MCIT program online, or is it mandatory to complete it on-campus?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:10
Hi Emma, the MCIT program is not automatically applied or considered for people that apply to other programs. However, you are not required to have a CS degree to apply for the CGGT program.

What is the policy for deferred entry into the MCIT masters? I read that it was possible to defer for a maximum of 2 years, 2 semesters at a time. If I had a job opportunity that I couldn't pass, would that qualify as a valid reason to ask for deferred entry?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:11
Hi Guest. Your information is correct and yes, that is usually an acceptable request for a deferral.
Vidhya
10:09
Hi Will, I'm Vidhya.. I am interested in the Electrical Engineering Graduate Program. However, I have been out of academia for 9 years now. I have an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering. Can I contact a ECE faculty or advisor about my situation/application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:12
Vidhya, yes you can. However, you are eligible to apply - we don't limit our programs to people of a certain age/experience level. Also, because you have been out of school for so long, you would not need to provide academic letters of reference. If you'd like more specific information from the program, you can email esegrad@seas.upenn.edu.

Hi Will,
I am applying for Robotics MSE program at U Penn.
1. Is it possible for a Robotics MSE students to take courses under Wharton Business School?
2. Is there an option for a Minor Degree or a second Masters Degree in Engineering?
3. Can an MSE Robotics student apply for a PhD as an extension to the MSE degree?
4. Also, what was the acceptance rate for Robotics MSE last year?
Thanks
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:14
Hi Meghdeep, 1) it is possible to apply to take classes at Wharton. 2) You can apply for a second master's degree after you've completed at least one semester in your initial program in good academic standing. 3) No, we don't offer "extensions," for going from a master's to a PhD. You would still need to apply for the PhD program. 4) We had an acceptance rate of 16% last year.

Hi Will. Could you please share more information about the placement rate and region for MCIT and DATS program after graduation? Besides, there is a requirement for certifile (transcript verification) for international students on the application portal. Can I use my WES scanned verified transcript for this certifile? Thank you.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:15
Hi Krystal. If you're admitted, you don't need to use certifile to supply your final, official transcripts. But yes, we do accept WES transcripts. As for the MCIT/DATS program placement/region, we don't have information that is that specific. you can find career information here for recent graduates; ttps://careerservices.upenn.edu/post-graduate-outcomes/

Hi Will, I am interested in the M:IPD Integrated product design program but have noticed that it is very similar to the MSE:IPD program. Since I am currently studying towards a undergraduate double degree in engineering and business, I would just like to know: 1. Which program you recommend.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:17
Hi Risa, I would recommend you email the Program Coordinator for the program, Maryeileen Griffith, at mebg@seas.upenn.edu. The MSE IPD program has more of an engineering bent and focuses more on that aspect of the program.
Tang
10:10
Hi Will! May I know if I can apply to both online MCIT and on campus MCIT at the same time? Will it by anyway affect the consideration for my application? Thank you!
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:17
Hi Tang, you can apply for both programs and no, it shouldn't affect your consideration, as they are two completely separate programs.
10:18
You would need to submit two separate applications.

How feasible is it for students to pursue a double MCIT/MBA? What does the timeline/process look like for that? Does one first have to get accepted into one of the programs/start it before applying to the other?
