Hey Will, I asked about the two early decision dates. Just looking for more clarification. Does that mean all decisions will be release on either January or February. Or some decisions will be release in January, some will be released in Feb?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:45
George, it's up to the program. Some may release all of their early decisions on Jan 15, and others may do some on Jan 15 and Feb 15, and still another might hold all of them until Feb 15.
Shreya

Hi Will, what will be the difference if we submit the application under regular deadline instead of early deadline?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:46
Shreya, we usually have a slightly higher admit rate for the early deadline, because the number of applications we receive are less.
Chinmay
10:39
Will can I know what is intake for MSE in data science and what is acceptance rate if possible
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:46
Chinmay, we admitted approx 9% of applicants for the Data Science program, out of 1107 applicants.
Linghao
10:43
Hi will, I sent my link to for professors. Should they finish the letter before 11.15 or they can upload the letters later than 11.15?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:47
Linghao, if you want your application to be reviewed for the early deadline, we must receive at least 2 letters by Nov 15, the early deadline.
Yiyang

Hi Will, sorry if you’ve already answer these questions.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:47
That's fine, Yiyang.
Varun
10:44
Hey Will, should we mention professors we want to with in our SoP for the PhD application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:47
Varun, yes, we do recommend doing that.
Aditya
10:45
Hi. since there isnt a clear cutoff mentioned for the Masters in CGGT program. Are the lower GRE scores automatically rejected? is the entire profile considered?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:47
Aditya, we do consider the entire profile.
Yiyang
10:45
is it okay if my personal statement is single spaced, two page long or 1.5 spaced, three page long? Would you recommend using single spaced or larger?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:48
Yiyang, it is up to you to submit whatever you believe is best and easiest to read. We do not have any requirements, only recommendations.
Shreya

What are the TA/RA positions' availability for MS in CS students in UPenn?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:49
Shreya, most are filled by PhD students, but there are some available. You have to wait until you've completed at least your first semester in good academic standing.

Good morning Will! Thanks for doing this Q&A. I have a few questions regarding the Data Science Program. 1. How is the Data Science Program different from SCMP/DATS program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:49
John, the SCMP program is not a DATS focused program; it takes a broader overview, whereas the DATS program is relatively narrowly focused.

Hi guest.
Flora
10:47
Thank you will! And I have another question: I have uploaded a copy of official transcript, do I still need to do CertiFile?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:50
Flora, you're welcome. And no, you don't need to use Certifile.
Prateek Sahay

Good morning Will,

I'm interested in the GRASP lab and Wharton, so I'm planning to apply to the joint MBA/MCIS joint degree. Just wanted to confirm that these are the correct programs (took me a bit to understand the distinction between MCIS/MCIT/MSE Robotics) and that the Round 2 deadline is Mar 15, 2020.

Appreciate your time this morning,
Prateek
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:50
Prateek, if you're applying to the CIS program, yes, the regular deadline is March 15. The only deadline for the Robo program is Feb 1, just to be clear.
Yiyang
10:47
For unofficial transcript, is it sufficient if I just download a copy of unofficial transcript from my school’s online grade system
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:51
Yiyang, yes, that will be fine.
John
10:47
2. Is it possible to pursue a dual degree with SCMP/DATS and MCIT?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:51
John, yes, that is possible to do. You'd apply to add the 2nd one after you've completed at least one semester in whichever program you began.
Aditya

What is the acceptance rate for The CGGT program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:52
Aditya, we accepted approximately 40% of applicants last year.
Shaurya
10:49
Thank you for all your prompt responses, Will. We highly appreciate it.

Also, this may be a rare question, but one I must ask anyway. In my case, one of my recommenders is no longer with the firm at which we were associated to each other, i.e. we both have switched our organizations recently. He has a new official email ID and is willing to recommend me using the same. Does this in any way affect the review of my recommendation?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:52
Shaurya, no, that should be fine.
Aditya
10:49
Also, is there a minimum verbal ,quant score requirement for the CGGT program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:53
Aditya, we don't have required scores.
Maya

Hi Will. Thanks for answering my previous questions. With regards to societies on campus, I've seen that a few are labelled as undergraduate societies. Would grads still be able to join these societies?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:53
Maya, all student orgs are open to all students. Most cater to undergrads, but grads can definitely join. I was in a few when I was in grad school here, including the Pep Band and the Student Newspaper.
