I would imagine so, as Dunning did plenty to re-establish himself as a starter

Could Dylan Cease be a potential offseason target? Given the White Sox need for a middle infielder(s), Ezequiel Durán could be an appealing piece for a trade.
Mark P
5:06
The White Sox think they can contend in 2024, so they're probably not moving Cease at all.  But, if they did, moving him for an MLB-ready younger player or two would be a logical move.  Duran is a great fit under this concept, yet he's also a player the Rangers would probably prefer to keep, if he can bounce around as a utility guy

Kershaw to Texas?
Mark P
5:08
Kershaw sounds like he'll miss maybe half (at least?) of the 2024 season, so he's a big question to sign with anyone right now.  This is just my speculation, but the injury might make him lean more towards just staying in LA, so he can rehab in a familiar environment.

Any chance Carter hits leadoff next year with Semien sliding down to the number 2 spot.  I know Semien had a nice year leading off but I'd still like someone who got on base at a higher clip.  Semien always seemed more of a number 2 hitter to me anyways.  If carter6

I think this might be a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." If Carter continues to develop into a proper leadoff guy, sure, change the lineup around.  But for now, things seem to be firing on all cylinders the way they are with Semien up top

How much payroll do you see the rangers adding to get more players?
Mark P
5:13
We haven't really established what the upper limits on the Rangers' spending might be.  They surpassed the luxury tax last year, for the first time in club history, though only by a few million bucks.

$277MM is the threshold for when a team gets penalized 10 draft slots for tax overages, so I'd guess that probably represents some unofficial limit.  But this is just a guess on my part, and ownership might be willing to spend big again now that they've got a ring already secured

votto to texas?
Mark P
5:15
Doesn't seem like a fit since Lowe is also a left-handed bat

Are the rangers a player for any of the international free agents? (Lee, Yamamoto)
Mark P
5:16
They've probably had some eyes on Lee, and they're known to be scouting Yamamoto.  By this point, the Rangers are one of those teams who are broadly "in on everyone" in terms of at least checking in or keeping tabs on pretty much any free agent.  Obviously some guys on the list are higher or more realistic targets than others, but Yamamoto is such a good fit for so many teams that Texas certainly has real interest.

5:17
Is corey seager a future hall of famer?
Mark P
5:18
I'd say yeah, this season especially and the second WS MVP put it over the top.  And he's still got a lot of time to add to an already great resume.

Who has more trade value E.Duran or J.Smith?

What do you think the Rangers can win the American League next season? who is your favorite rangers or astros. How do you see the possibility that the Rangers will sign Nola or resign Montgomery? greetings from Germany
Mark P

That's a long ways to come for a chat, thanks!

Texas has to be considered the provisional favorite at the moment, since their team has comparatively fewer holes than most other teams.  But, who knows how the offseason might play out.

do to how heavily the pitching staff relayed so heavily on pitch framing the past two seasons do you think there’s any chance they resign Austin hedges to back up heim? It’s hard to argue that wouldn’t be the best two defensive catchers on one team.
Mark P
5:21
There's value in re-signing Hedges, but the issue would be that if Heim got injured, Hedges offers nothing at the plate.

Now, this might not be a huge problem since the rest of the lineup is so loaded. Or, if Huff can maybe become akin to a poor man's Garver as a DH/catcher.
hi
5:22
Do you think the Rangers might pursue Soler since Garver and Grossman will be gone? Or maybe JD Martinez would be a better fit?
Mark P
5:23
Soler might also work as a DH alternative, except he'd want a longer-term contract.  I'm not sure the Rangers would want to lock up the DH spot for a longer amount of time, unless it's for Ohtani.

The advantage in signing JDM is that he's probably available for two or maybe even one year, due to his age

Do you think the Rangers can win back to back with this team?
Mark P
5:24
I'm going to say no not out of any disrespect for the Rangers, but because it's so extraordinarily hard to win a rings, let alone consecutive rings.  Baseball hasn't had a repeat champ since the 1998-20 Yankees, which is the longest stretch in any pro sport without a back-to-back winner

5:25
how intrested would the rangers be in moving off  jack leiter or kumar rocker?
Mark P
5:26
Leiter's been shaky enough that some teams would have pause about giving up anything significant for him.  And Rocker will miss at least half of next year due to Tommy John surgery, so he isn't a trade chip

What can the Rangers reasonably expect from DeGrom?
Mark P
5:27
Total wild card at this point, which isn't what you want just one season into a major long-term deal.  Given all of deGrom's injury history, I'd consider it a win if he can pitch again before the end of the 2024 season, since I'd be very nervous about any sort of a setback.

I like Lowe at first, but do you think we need an upgrade at first, someone with more power?
Mark P
5:30
Lowe isn't a superstar, but he's a productive player and Texas already has plenty of other stars elsewhere around the diamond.  His arbitration number is getting just high enough that I could see Texas may considering moving next year or in two years' time, if he keeps along this current level of solid-but-unspectacular production.

Not out of a real financial burden or anything, but because the Rangers might feel an upgrade is available for less money.

could Justin turners be a could plan b if they don’t sign Ohtani? He’s a in inf/dh who has a great eye for the zone.
Mark P
5:31
Turner is one of my favorite free agents of the offseason, and he'd be a great fit with the Rangers as he would with a number of different teams.
5:32
Turner is also a former teammate of Chris Young, hmmmm

Does Sam Huff have a future sharing catching/first base duties for the World Champions or is he trade bait?
Mark P
5:34
As I noted earlier, he might get a shot as a Garver replacement in that same role.  He wouldn't be expected to be a regular DH unless his production warranted, so that would decrease some of the pressure Huff might feel as "a Garver replacement."

When will the top 50 predictions be released?

I believe the plan is Monday or Tuesday.  We're waiting to see how some of these club option decisions and the qualifying offers play out

What was Bochy's contract situation... did he have a 3 year deal to begin with? or does he have 3 more years left.
Mark P
5:35
Bochy signed a three-year deal, so he's under contract through the 2025 season.

Assuming he doesn't retire at the end of that deal, part of me wonders if Bochy has already achieved "he can have the job as long as he wants" status in Arlington (unless the team suddenly falls apart or something)
