I asked Tomlin about that after the game. I framed my question this way: did the Steelers want to attack down the field more once Hamilton left the game? Tomlin said no because he plays dime linebacker in passing situations. I understand his answer, but I think it was obvious the Steelers had more success in the passing game after he exited.

Suggesting that we'd be having a different conversation right now if Baltimore had hit the field goal seems both obvious and pointless, as every game hinges on variables and random acts. But there's a tendency within this fanbase to not accept wins at face value and only celebrate certain kinds of wins. Can you think of any teams historically, Steelers or otherwise, who have had true success (deep playoff runs) by always winning gritty and by the skins of their teeth, so to speak? Or do you think a certain level of domination and infallibility is necessary to be taken seriously?

I don't have the stats in front of me, but when the Steelers have won Super Bowls they've had dominant defenses for the most part. That was definitely the case in 2008. In 2005, the defense wasn't as good as '08, but it was still top 5ish. And in the '70s of course, the first two came because the Steelers were excellent on defense. Maybe the '78 and '79 teams were more offensive-oriented, but those defense were still very good too.

Aloha Ray. Has it been determined if the missed extra point was blocked? The ball moved so drastically after starting fairly straight it’s Hard to believe he shanked it that bad. It looks like there were many hands in the path of the ball of the foot. The national broadcasters were so set on the narrative of Boswell being off in warmups and missing kicks in the last couple games that a block wasn’t considered. Did anyone ask Boswell?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:41
Boswell did not talk after the game, but the official NFL stats credited the Ravens with a block.

I have always wondered why the Steelers locker room is never shown on TV or anywhere that I have seen.  Is it something the Steelers don’t want????
Ray Fittipaldo
11:43
Good observation. I know back in 2005 Cowher let NFL Films in the locker room and we got the famous "They shot me in Denver" scene. I say Tomlin starts allowing NFL Films get access like that.

Good morning Ray.  The Marketing Department for the Steelers needs to consider finding a Cardiology Group that would be willing to sponsor the team.    Just like Sunday, I am certain there were many people that likely suffered from cardiac symptoms during the broadcast!
Ray Fittipaldo
11:45
Didn't the Browns have the nickname "the Cardiac Kids" back in 1980? Or sometime around then? But yes, the Steelers have been playing in some close games that have come down to the wire.

Has there been any accountability or insight from J Ramsey as to what he was thinking on several busted coverages?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:45
Ramsey was out of the locker room on Sunday night before reporters were allowed in.

Hello Ray! Great to be in the playoffs. What an amazing game. Different question. On the Myles Garrett record sack, don’t you think Joe B gave himself up a little easy… reminded me of the Strahan/Favre sack….GO STEELERS!!!
Ray Fittipaldo
11:47
A little like the Strahan sack but that was a bit more over the top.

"If my aunt had male parts, she'd be my uncle" is being credited as a "Tomlinism" but that saying has been around for at least 100 years. Does he think he's cute with that schoolyard slang?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:48
Did you see his smirk before he said it?

Hi Ray  If Rodgers comes back for another season will it be with us or another team
Ray Fittipaldo
11:50
I don't think he would want to start over so as long as the money is right I think he'd be back with the Steelers.

Ray, How about this stat? The Steelers 4th OLB had 2 more interceptions than the entire Jets team!
Ray Fittipaldo
11:50
That is one amazing stat about the Jets. Hard to believe.

I can see the Bills upsetting the Jags but probably the Chargers losing to the Pats. In this scenario if the Steelers beat he Texans they would most likely go on the road to the Pats, with the Bills traveling to the Broncos, correct?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:52
Correct. Lowest seed goes to the Broncos.

What a great game Sunday night. Steelers Ravens remind me of the Ali Frazier fights back when I was a kid, extremely entertaining sanctioned violence. So what's up with Jalen Ramsey? Was he just spying on Jackson and left his man uncovered?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:53
Eyes in the backfield. Have to trust the front to contain the run.

Found it curious that Porter didn’t stay with Flowers all game? Spent time covering 81. Thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:55
Sometimes he travels with top WRs and sometimes he doesn't. It just a game plan thing.

Figured the Steelers would play Sunday. Do the networks draft or are the time slots NFL assigned?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:56
A little of both, but the NFL would never allow the winner of game 272 to play on Saturday. So it was going to be Sunday or Monday and the networks love the Steelers in primetime so Monday night it is!

OK Mike Tomlin is about to enter the room for his weekly news conference. We'll have coverage throughout the afternoon at post-gazette.com and on our YouTube channel.
