The Steelers have a small analytics department and a pro scouting department and college scouting department. The analytics department does his thing and the scouts are always evaluating  and grading players in college and across the league.

Ray, thanks for the chats. In your opinion, is this a year where Rooney forces Tomlin to change offensive coordinators ( i.e. Haley replacing Arians)?  Can he and the Steelers ever allow Canada another year to prove he’s clueless about running an NFL offense?  Thanks.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:28
We shall see. I just wonder how things will be markedly different with Mason Rudolph at QB. He's not a lot more mobile than Roethlisberger.

Our #2 TE looks very good to me.  Is it just circumstance or is he that good?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:29
I think Zach Gentry is a good No. 2 TE behind Freiermuth. He's a good blocker and has been competent as a receiver. Reminds me a bit of Jesse James but probably a better blocker.

With the pounding Najee absorb were you as impressed as I was that he didn't fumble in 381 touches?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:30
Very much so. I'm just as impressed he was able to play all 17 games taking that kind of punishment.

I understand TJ was playing hurt last time in KC, but I fully expect TJ to be a game wrecker against backup tackle Wylie #77 for KC. We need pressure on Mahomes with 4 guys.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:30
You're right about that. Getting pressure with four will be big for the defense if they can get that done.

If Butler retires after this year, any chance they look at Fangio or Zimmer as a DC?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:32
I'm sure they would conduct interviews, but I think Teryl Austin is in line to get that job.

Any clues or Inside information if the Steelers think Green would be better off as a Guard, eventually? It seems pro football pundits are split on opinion if he could.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
I haven't spoken to anyone who believes he will be a better guard than a center. There is a reason he's playing center and not guard. He's small for a center and guards are much more bigger than centers in the NFL.

Do the Steelers throw off KC by playing the FB and running the wheels off of Harris ?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
They already run the wheels off Harris. They just don't get many yards. At least in most games.

Should we be concerned if K. Colbert retires?  When he does retire I'm afraid M. Tomlin will gain even more power in personnel & we'll end up with more players like Eric Ebron.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
Brandon Hunt has been a longtime protege of Colbert, who gets along well with Tomlin. I would imagine if Hunt is promoted he'll have a similar relationship with Tomlin.

Shouldn't a coach be immediately fired for going for 4th and one at his on 18 early in the game ?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
But what if the GM is a big analytics guy too? And the owner is brainwashed as well.

If the Steelers go with Corliss Waitman as punter for Sunday (which they should), does that mean we’ve seen the last of Percy Harvin in a Steelers jersey?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
Not unless they cut him. They can deactivate him for the game. He has three more years remaining on his rookie contract so they'll retain his right as long as they want him.

Good afternoon Ray, Any word on Nagee's injury?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
Tomlin said he might not practice in the early stages of the week, but he is optimistic he will play.

does tj watt a bad interview or is a jerk; he seems to come offhas arrogant .
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
I just don't think he likes to do interviews.

Hi Ray, with your trained football eye, which would you consider more worthy of an official sack by the scorer:  Michael Strahan's record setting sack of Brett Favre who essentially kneeled down at Strahan's feet at the end of a game, or TJ's would be record strip sack of Brett Hundley as Hundley was trying to avoid being sacked?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:40
There is no such thing as catcher's indifference or anything like that in the NFL. If you touch down a QB who falls behind the line of scrimmage you get a sack. If a scrambling QBs runs out of bounds behind the L.O.S. and you are the closest defender you also get a sack.

Greetings Ray- Some say Kendrick Green is more suited for OG than Center. How can that be if he’s too small for Center? Thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:41
Guess what? If he's too small for center he's too small for guard too.

2:41
So, if a QB picks up the football after a fumbled snap and has solid possession so that he can still run or pass (or fumble), and we have all seen QBs make completions after this happened, it is an "aborted play." Seriously, have you looked up this rule and maybe can explain the logic to us further?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:42
My understanding is the Ravens statisticians were in contact with league offices in New York during the game. If the ball touches the ground before the QB catches it, it's an aborted play if nothing positive happens.

Hello Ray. If you had to square up this playoff team Steelers have right now vs the 1989 Steelers who also snuck in playoffs who wins?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:44
Steelers on Steelers? I don't know. That '89 team beat the AFC Central champs on the road and then almost beat the top-seeded Broncos on the road. The Broncos went on to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Let's see what this team does in the playoffs.

Do you ave any feeling the post season could be a fairy tale ending for Ben?  Kind of like Bettis
Ray Fittipaldo
2:44
Bettis wasn't even the starter in 2005. Willie Parker was. It's not really a relatable situation unless you're strictly talking about the emotional aspect of driving the team, etc.

Who do you think takes over for Colbert? I'm leaning towards Brandon Hunt.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:45
I would imagine Hunt would lead the personnel department and Omar would lead the contractual side of things. Hunt might not get GM title, but Colbert didn't have that either when he first started on the job in 2000.

Hi Ray,
Not sure if you seen much Cordell Patterson, or Deebo Samuel, however, I cant help but wonder if the offensive staff of the Steelers can see Juju in the same vein, especially if resigned. Thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:47
The Steelers have Najee Harris. Now if something happened to Harris then JuJu definitely could fill a similar role. He's very versatile and a team player.

Could part of the reason for continuing tp play Harvin be his success as a passer on fake punts in college?
