Schobert won't be back at his currently salary. Bush will be back and maybe Spillane. Didn't get a real good read on Buddy Johnson. I think they'll draft an ILB but maybe not in the top three rounds. They could sign a veteran though.

If we had an Oline of this: Moore, Dotson, Lindbaum, Green/Fa, and Rookie RT.  Wouldn't that be ideal? No way can you keep Banner unless you are sure he can play RT and start.
Ray Fittipaldo

I wish I had a better read on Dotson. This was kind of a lost year for him with the injuries. And I'm not convinced Green can play guard so they'd have to bring Turner back or sign another free agent or draft a guard. I can see them drafting a right tackle in the second or third round.

Hi Ray, Love your chats and podcasts with Brian.  I was frustrated seeing the innovative play calling (tight end pass for a TD - TD pass to a tackle.. ) and our play calls where the scheme didn't even have our receivers wouldn't even be across the 1st down marker  (granted, our receivers didn't seem to catch the ball).  Do you think they learn from game to game what works and what does not? or it is what it is..  You'd think over 17 games we'd figure out what works and what doesn't..

To quote Mike Tomlin, "Ya think?"
2:28
I'm with you. I think it's absurd the offense looked the way it did late in the season. Mike Tomlin saying he's optimistic about Matt Canada is laughable after the offense failed to score a first-half touchdown in seven of the final eight games.

Ray - It became very evident after watching the wild card games that the Steelers are in dire need of better players and more competent coordinators.....they have big hills to climb if they expect to compete with any of those teams anytime soon....

Big offseason for Kevin Colbert and Co. for sure.

what would it cost to bring Edmunds back, I thought he improved this year significantly.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:29
I'd pay him $4-5 million a year. No more than that.

Do you think Rooney mandates any changes to the coaching staff? I think it's time to change DC and OC.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:29
Great question. He's done it before.

What do you think are the odds we draft a QB in round 1? Pickett and Willis seem to be the 2 most talked about for us
Ray Fittipaldo

I'll have a better idea on that in a month or two. Lots will happen between now and then. You have the Senior Bowl in a few weeks, the combine after that, predraft visits, etc.

Looks like JuJu really wants to stay. I would love to see him back.

Do you have a rough idea what he would be looking for and what the Steelers are willing to pay? Just wondering how far apart they would be.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
$8 million a year range.

Ray - based on article this morning by Gerry, do the Steelers have the cap room to get solid/not elite replacements?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
Depends on how they want to spend the $. But they'll have $ to make some moves.

Any chance Mr Rooney would decide that Canada should not be back?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
Sure, there is a chance.

Steelers have problems everywhere with a dearth of talent on both sides of the ball.  Acknowledging that, do you think that the Steelers look to you like a well coached team (taking into account readiness to play, creative play calling, in game management, adaptability on defense)?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
No. Not for most of that game against the Chiefs. I still can't get over how Tomlin mismanaged the end of the first half.

I find Mike Tomlin's post game comment that "schemes are irrelevant" more than a little disturbing. We can all agree that this team is lacking in offensive talent. But It was also pretty obvious that some more imaginative play calling would have made a difference a lot of times this season. Your thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
I think that was a preemptive strike signaling what he said today about Canada returning. It's not the first time he's laid blame at the feet of players and protected his staff this year. It's been pretty evident he's wanted to stick with Canada for a while now.

It just shocks me MT would even think about bringing back Matt Canada as OC. Why can't the Steelers spend some money and bring Joe Brady to the town? Joe Brady is 10000 times better than Matt Canada.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:35
Didn't he just get fired in Carolina?

It was hard to tell from the TV broadcast: Was "Sweet Georgia Brown" piped over the loudspeakers when KC started running its Globetrotters play against the Generals (aka Steelers)?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
I thought for sure I'd see a behind-the-back pass from Mahomes. Or him spinning the ball on his finger before flinging a TD pass. If they played another quarter those two things most assuredly would have happened.

Hi Ray, BIG difference in speed of Chiefs vs Steelers was quite noticeable in returners, WRs, TE, and even the back up RB. Can you see the Steelers adding that component in 2022 for those areas?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
They have to address a lot of areas in 2022 and that is one of them.

Wouldn't it make more sense to bring in a new GM before the draft rather than have him/her inherit Colbert's picks?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
Not if the next GM is Brandon Hunt. He's a Colbert protege.
John Paul
2:37
Ray enjoy your hard work through out the season! Will the Steelers attempt to improve there roster by picking up a QB in free agency or through the draft? I do not believe that mason or is the answer.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
Draft more likely than free agency, I believe.

How is Matt Canada still the OC for this team?  It really is disgraceful. That display Sunday night was humiliating.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:38
Tomlin is optimistic about his future.

Ray, are the Steelers going to be more aggressive in FA this year? With so many needs, I dont see any other option.
OL, DL, WR, ILB, CB, SS,  what did I miss ?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
You pretty much covered it. The list of needs is long.

We’ve now learned Banner is not a swing tackle and can only play the right side. I noticed when Chuks went out, they put in Haig. So, why is Banner on this team?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:40
He won't be next season under his current contract.
