No but what about Javon Hargrave. I think he should be getting cut soon.
Jack
12:53
Minkah is washed can he be traded or cut?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:53
More likely to be cut because the contract is kind of an albatross.

Hi Ray. Was Roman Wilson drafted to be the #2 receiver? He has decent size at 5'11", runs a 4.4 forty and is tough as nails. He got really good reviews on all of the scouting reports last year. The Steelers top 3 receivers next year could open with Pickens, Wilson and Austin (who had a decent season). Back to my original question, was Wilson brought in to be the #2?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:54
That remains to be seen. He didn't show much last year when he was healthy, and he wasn't healthy for most of the season. I'm thinking more of a No. 3, but we'll see.

Ray.. tough choice on what to do with Pickens. I mean if they trade him their WR corps would be a joke! But…. he is a diva & definitely has some AB traits in him. Plus he’s always good for a  stupid penalty or 2 for taunting or unsportsmanlike conduct. What’s your best guess on what they do with him? Trade or extend?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:54
Trade over extend but just keeping him in 2025 is an option too.

Hello Ray, around what time should we expect progress on contract talks with Russ/Fields? Just before new league year?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:56
I think in an ideal world they know who their QB is by the combine, which is later this month. Or shortly thereafter. I don't think you want either to hit free agency. If you identify one of them as your guy sign him before free agency begins in mid-March.

Hi Ray! Thanks for the chats. Just 1000 foot view question. Are the Steelers problems primarily Xs andO’s, or Jimmy’s and Joe’s? You hear comments from players like Julian Edelman that make it seem like there could be some serious scheme problems. Or is it just that we’ve paid some of the wrong guys?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:57
I'd lean more Xs and Os, but they are very think at WR and DL and even the secondary. So both!

Ray, you know offensive line play well.  Do you think they have amassed enough talent to be a dominant line and will take a big step forward next season or do you think it's a talent issue or coaching issue.  Thanks.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:59
They've brought in some good players in the draft. Frazier is very good. Fautanu will be very good. They need Jones to develop. I'm not confident saying they'll be dominant, but they have a chance to be very good if Jones comes along. I think I've mentioned this almost every week in this chat, but this is a huge off season for him.

Shall we assume no coaching changes?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:59
No there will be a couple more I think.

Hey Ray, where do we find Najee’s replacement?  Draft, free agency, trade?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:00
Draft. It's a very good class of RBs.

Hey Ray, love these chats.  Because of the problems with Brown and now  Pickens for example, are the Steelers less likely to draft a player with more talent and more issues compared to one with less talent but no issues?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:00
Yeah they need to break that habit. I think Tomlin believes he can fix players. Just draft a good receiver with a good background. It shouldn't be that hard.

I’ve several mock drafts where Jeanty was available at 21. I know the defensive line needs restocked, but would you pass on him?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:01
Probably if the D lineman was there that they wanted.

Hi, Ray. It's gonna be cold, wet, and miserable for a while.

Do you think there is a market for Najee?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:03
Yes. He's been reliable and teams know he'll play through injuries. That's valuable. I'm not saying he'll make $8 million a year or anything like that, but he's probably the top free agent RB on the market. And a team that believes it's close might pay him $6 or 7 million a year on a short-term deal. It's all about the fit. I just don't thin the Steelers believe he's a great fit for Smith's offense.

With Andrews, the Ravens TE, taking a snap for a tush push, why not train up Washington to take snaps and have that behemoth gain the yard?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:04
Andrews is a better athlete than Washington, but I get your point. Train one of your TEs to do that. Why not Freiermuth?

What chance would you say Najee Harris plays for the Steelers in 2025?

5%

What % chance would you give that the Steelers attack Tee Higgins in free agency???
Ray Fittipaldo

Attack or sign? Sign 2%

Hi Ray, with the DL crop in the draft deep should we draft a couple in the first 4 rounds.
Ray Fittipaldo
1:05
I wouldn't mind that.

Hi Ray, your recent article about the Chiefs and Bills making due without T Hill and S Diggs is interesting … but the Steelers do not have a Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen. Tho a vet,  Wilson cant see the middle of the field and has a really tough time making meaningful plays with his legs.  Fields can Houdini with the best of them but seems to have limited allowances for decision making.  Maybe the Rams would like a Kupp / Pickens swap?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:07
Lots of other have made that point today. But I presented the facts too. Only four of the 10 highest-paid receivers played on teams that qualified for the playoffs. Also, no matter what the situation do you really want a cancer on your team?

Is there any way it could be arranged so that both the Eagles and the Chiefs lose on Sunday?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:08
Ha ha. But it is an interesting spot for Steelers fans. I'm guessing most don't want the Chiefs to win three in a row so they'll hold their nose and root for the Eagles.
Ok we went overtime today! Hope you enjoyed it. We'll do it again next week.
