Ray, when is someone going to ask Rooney the real reason he won't fire Tomlin? The steelers are becoming a punchline now.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:36
The real reason is $50 million over the next three years. The question for me is why did he commit to three years last summer when the team hadn't performed well in the playoffs for years?
Chill Dave
12:36
Hi Ray, are you aware of any likely FA targets for the Steelers on the DL?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:36
I'm going to write that story in a week or two before free agency begins, but Milton Williams and Javon Hargrave are two possibilities.

I have always been curious as to what voice and influence the minority owners have.  I imagine they have to espouse some differing opinions from Mr Rooney.  That's just a safe human nature based assumption. How much of a say do they have when it comes to the head coaching decisions...contracts, retention, etc?  Or are they silent partners?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:37
Silent partners for the most part.

12:37
Do you think Karl Dunbar is returning as DL coach?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:37
I haven't herd otherwise.

12:38
hi Ray. Do you think the playoff failures over the past several years are more the result of lack of talent on the roster or coaching inadequacies?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:38
It's always a little of both, but whenever you're losing the way they lose in the playoffs it's the coaching.

Hi Ray-  what are the PG’s plans  for covering the combine?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:39
Gerry and I leave Monday and we'll be out there all week. Chris Carter is coming at some point as well for the Pitt players. We'll have stories, podcasts and videos all week so make sure you check out everything we do.
Chris Parker
12:40
Hi Ray! Can you confirm the rumors around Trevor Lawrence? Were they made up or is there any truth to them?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:40
Fantasy

12:40
Ray-  outside of draft pedigree why is B Jones viewed as better option than Dan Moore?  Cannot say his tape is better?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:41
More upside. Moore got the most out of his talent and should get a nice deal in free agency. But Jones has more potential and they have to see if they can get it out of him.

I hear this is a good year for Dlinemen, any Cam's to be found in this year's crop? In round 1 or 2?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:41
That's a lot ot ask considering he's a likely Hall of Famer, but yes there are D-linemen aplenty in this draft class.
Chill Dave
12:42
Hi Ray, in your first mock draft, you went with Shemar Stewart.  Is he big enough to play DE in the Steelers system?  He seems more like a 4-3 pass rushing end.  Are any of the higher DT prospects viable as 3-4 ends?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:42
He'd have to beef up a little to play 5-technique, but honestly these linemen coming out of the college ranks aren't cookie cutters any longer. It's different now. They come in all shapes and sizes and the good teams find ways to get the most out of their talent.

12:43
Hi Ray, would Deebo or Cooper be a better fit for the Steelers?  Thanks.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:43
Depends on who is playing QB to be honest.
Jay
12:43
Thanks for the chats Ray. Do you get to go to the combine? If so, do you enjoy it?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:44
Yes. I'll be there all next week. It's a lot of work, but it's become one of the big NFL events of the year so I enjoy it.

If it were this simple a choice (it never is)...     in allocating resources would you prefer a 15 mill free agent CB and 2nd Round WR or a 15-20 mill free agent WR  and draft a 2nd Round CB ?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:44
Neither. I want a DL in Round 1. But if I play the game I'd say first-round CB.
Justin
12:45
Hey Ray.  Enjoy your appearances with Pompeani on Sunday nights.  Do you think the Steelers are comfortable with McCormick starting at guard or will they look for someone in the draft or free agency?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:45
He won't be handed the job, but you need mid-round pick like McCormick to develop into starters sometimes. You can't have an entire line of first- and second-round picks.
Lou
12:46
Ray, what real hope does a Steeler fan have that this team can even make an AFC Championship in next 5 years?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:46
Five years is a long time in the NFL. But I'm not feeling great about the next year or two.

12:47
The Steelers front office has to notice the increasing displeasure coming from the fans about the rut the team has been stuck in. Beyond the typical lip service, do you think that it matters to them at all?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:47
It matters to them, but they don't make knee-jerk reactions to things. They try to look at the big picture.
Frannie
12:47
Hello Ray, my husband would like your opinion on Jaxson Dart and Wil Howard?  Thank you.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:48
I wouldn't take Dart in Round 1. Maybe on Day 2. Howard Day 3.
Or late Day 2.
Dr Ohio
12:48
what’s the plan with Conor Heyward? He’s not a FB, not a TE. Did we really draft him for ST & to give Cam someone to push around. I have zero issue with his effort. Would love to get a real FB type.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:49
He's a good special teams player. That's why he's been on the roster. I'm not sure he'll be here beyond the coming season if he makes the roster this summer.

Ray,  If you were J Fields would you not want to hit the market to see what you can get before signing with Pittsburgh.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:50
He might be disappointed.

Hi Ray. Just joined chat so hope this hasn't already been asked. How aggressive do you see the Steelers in the free agent market based on their available cap space?
