Hi Ray: Always enjoy your work. Thoughts on signing FA's Jaquan Brisker of CHI or Bryan Cook of KC to strengthen the defensive backfield?

Signing some help for the secondary should be a priority for the Steelers. The nice thing for them is Jalen Ramsey is versatile so they can get creative in who they sign and how they want to employ Ramsey.

Agreed with 574- the closer it gets to May, the sadder I become. Ray, what are the odds that the national pundits are right and we take Ty Simpson in the 1st... Talk me off the ledge regarding Kenny Pickett 2.0. and I am a Pitt alum....

Rest assured it's not their plan to draft Simpson in the first round.

I have seen some articles where people do a mock "offseason" where they include cuts, restructuring, FA signings and draft.  Any chance you could take a run at that?  I'd like to see your thoughts

I ran a piece shortly after the season ended. Here it is: https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2026/01/23/nfl-steelers-f...

I'm grateful you and Chris discussed ILBs in a podcast last week.  I think it is the most overlooked position of need for this team.  I hesitate in thinking PQ is the guy, especially when asked to don the green dot.  This draft seems loaded with quality options. I would love to see a 1st or 2nd round pick of Hill jr, Allen, or Lawson.  Our last playoff win was the last time we had a legit ILB (shazier).  It's time to honor the franchise of Ham, Lambert, Kirkland, Foote, Farrior and Shazier with a stud who can be the Def catalyst.  Would you be concerned with an early round pick in that direction?

It's a good year for off-ball linebackers, but it's one of the hardest positions to scout because they have the toughest job of any defender. They have to be stout enough to stop the run and athletic enough to cover TEs and RBs. It's why defensive coordinators substitute so often.

Ray: Agree 1000% with 574 Fan. Your coverage is the best and up here in Michigan you help me keep up with Steeler Nation.

If they make all 12 selections in this draft how many do you think could make the team? As of today, they need starters at LG, WR2, and depending on what they do with Ramsey, CB or FS. Also, they need depth at just about every position apart from OLB. Some will be filled in FA, but not all can.

Probably no more than eight. Nine would be pushing it. That's exactly why Khan will try to use that capital to move up in this draft or back to next year's draft. No way 12 rookies are making any NFL team.

OK thanks for taking some time to talk Steelers with me. We'll do it again next week smack dab in the middle of the legal tampering period. That ought to be fun!
