Since 2012, the only 1st round pick drafted by the Steelers to get a meaningul 2nd contract is TJ Watt.  Isn’t it time to update the notion that the Steelers draft well?  It seems like they were very average in the last 10 years with the Colbert-Tomlin regime.

DeCastro was drafted in 2012 and got a second contract. I'd say that worked out quite well. Shazier would have signed a second deal if not for his injury. So really, you're talking about Jarvis Jones, Artie Burns, Terrell Edmunds, Devin Bush, Bud Dupree. Too early to discuss 2021-23 draft classes. And I'd argue Dupree was an OK pick. They just weren't going to keep two highly-priced edge rushers. If they're hitting on 50% of their first-round picks when they're picking between 15 and 32 for the most part I'd say that's league average or better than league average. You disagree with any of that?

Hi Ray, Steelers seem to covet Big Ten players on their draft board!  Assuming they take their top rated player at RT, C, or CB with the #20 pick, which of these players do you like in the second round, Tanor Bantulonis, C-Wisconsin, Max Melton, CB- Rutgers, or Kris Jenkins, DL-Michigan?  All three looked very good at the NFL Combine!  Thanks.

Yes, they like Big Ten players. SEC players too. For evaluators, it's easier to predict who will succeed in the NFL after watching them play against the best college competition.

If they're presented with that scenario I think the Steelers would gladly pick one of those three. For me, probably Mims knowing Khan and Weidl want to build from the trenches out. I'm guessing he has a higher grade on their board than JPJ right now, but I don't know that for sure.
