maybe they aren't flipping tackles but they can chip with the TE or RB.  Watt definitely opened things up for Bud.  Let Dupree walk and load up on offense.  he was average for 4 years, good for one
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
I think you are underselling Dupree a bit.

2:34
Move Anfernee Jennings inside while the DuPree situation plays out over the next few seasons then you have a very versatile player... but... would need another MLB... is what I was speculating about.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
OK. You don't see many players do that in the Steelers defense, but I do like Jennings.

Whats the more important event to you, combine, pro day, or senior bowl?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:35
All important, but the Steelers value pro days. They like to meet with the players, take them out to dinner, etc.

Hi Ray, I’m aware you’ve stated no. I know we have no depth behind him, however, there is about 6 million in cap savings to cutting McDonald. Is Vance on or off the team come training camp?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
I think he's on. Maybe they can convince him to take a pay cut if they're really up against the cap. But I think he'll be on the roster in camp, yes.

Do you see any chance the Steelers dont cut Foster?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
I thought they would cut him last year, so there's always a chance. But I was talking to a scout last week who couldn't believe the Steelers stuck with Foster last season.

Reading how hard it will be to keep the rest of our team in tact, is it a mistake to franchise Bud and potentially lose other pieces such as Hilton and others?  Is the value of keeping 1 key piece more valuable than potentially losing 4 key role players?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:38
Hilton and Feiler will only be $3 million assuming they get the second-round tender. That's only a raise of about $2 million for both.

Hi Ray, are there any OLBs that you'd take in 2nd round over a skill player or OL?  Thanks!
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
No. I'd take a player that can help the offense. I'm sure they'll have second-round grades on a lot of OLBs, but I don't think they'll draft him unless Dupree isn't tagged.

Odds that 48 has great year if he leaves the steelers?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:40
Depends on the team, but he had double-digit sacks last season. Many believe he just now is coming into his own.
Ryno
2:40
Do you see 2020 being a big year for Gentry, or just more sideline time?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:41
He only dressed for four games or so. They obviously didn't think he was ready. Maybe he'll have a great offseason and surprise me. But I'm not counting on it.
Where's My Clark Bar?

Ray, Can fully guaranteed contracts ever work in the NFL with the injury risk players face?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:42
Kirk Cousins has a guaranteed deal. He's a QB, but it's not out of the question some day for it to happen if the players make it a priority in their negotiations. They just refuse to do it for some reason.

I disagree with your assertion that the Steelers are set at S with Edmunds being 1/2 of the two players there. I get they are painted into a corner and hope like DuPree he'll pull his head out of his you know what... I don't see it... Is waiting till his contract year a given if he still struggles this season?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:44
It's just the reality when you invest a first-round pick in a player. You're not going to give up on them after two years unless they're really bad. Edmunds isn't really bad. He has some holes in his game, but he's always available and the coaches seem to think he'll improve.

Is Scotland-Williamson actually someone that has a future in this league, or is he just giving us an extra practice body?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:44
He's from Scotland and part of the International player program. I don't think he'll ever make it onto the 53-man roster.
Jack58
2:46
It would be 3 years after this season, with Edmunds... per my question about the contract year which would be year 4 or 5 ?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:47
I understand that. I've always maintained if he struggles this year he could become a dime LB much in the same way Mark Barron did. But I don't think they're going to do that just yet.
Jack58
2:48
I see a lot of people mocking Taylor from Wisconsin to the Steelers... Who was the last Wisconsin RB not considered a bust or didnt live up to the potential... Russell Wilson ;-)
Ray Fittipaldo
2:49
Melvin Gordon hasn't been terrible. Probably not worth a top-15 pick, but he's been OK. I guess you're referring to Ron Dayne and some others from years ago. Like Dayne, Taylor has a lot of miles on him. That's a concern for some teams.

Like Iowa OL Wisconsin RBs are over rated.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:50
Like Robert Gallery. But I think Wirfs is the real deal.
2:51
Ok thanks for all the great questions this week. We'll do it again next week.
