Does or should the 5th year option be a consideration when drafting a position in the first round?  I’m thinking of RB as an example.

Yes. Anytime you draft any position in Round 1 the hope is that player will sign a second contract with your team. I'm sure when the Steelers selected Najee Harris they had designs on him being their RB1 for more than four years.

Maybe for a rookie tryout. And how knows? Maybe he'd impress.

Saw the article mentioning all the QBs between Bradshaw and Ben.  I was the best one of that list.  :-).

Or Neil O'Donnell, but I know you don't mop up for anyone, Bubby.

Why is QB already penciled in for first round next year? Is next years class really that much better than this year?

It's pretty much a universal opinion in the NFL that next year's QB class will be better. Of course, a guy like Arch Manning could go back to school, but yes as of now there is more and better talent in the '26 QB class.

Who are 2 players the front office may draft in the 1st round ahead of the DL targets the Steelers like?

I'm taking an educated guess, but Hampton or Jeanty might fit that mold. I doubt Jeanty is available at 21.

Could you please break down the goods and bads about shemar Stewart to us? He is a tweener seems to be the issue, but he is mocked high to teams that have good dl and teams that need de help. What do you see him as, and is he a possibility worth watching if he, Harmon, will johnson, and sanders all fall? Big boards have him above all of them.

He played standing up and with his hand on the ground at Texas A&M. I think he could do both in the NFL, but it's notable that he dropped weight for the combine and weighed in like an OLB/EDGE rather than a DL. I suppose a team like the Steelers could ask him to put that weight back on, or have him play undersized on the DL. But I think most teams probably view him as an EDGE.

I read there are medical concerns on Harmon. Could that be the reason he was the only first round DL that had a 30 visit?

Could be, but they bring in guys for a visits for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's as simple as simply wanting to get to know them better before a big investment is made in them.

OK thanks for participating in today's chat. Next week we'll look ahead to the 2026 draft! Just kidding. We'll have plenty to talk about next week with the 2025 haul. Enjoy draft weekend!
