Jameis Winston went that route. If I was Newton I'd remain a free agent until late summer to see if there are any injuries. If not, then maybe sign late in camp with a team that needs a backup.

Ah yes, sorry I neglected to mention Gilbert earlier when I said Marcus Allen would get a shot. Allen will get a shot but Gilbert will, too.
