I know the Steelers regularly play host to Penguins and Pirates coaches and front office types. They come in and meet with the staff, have lunch int he cafeteria, etc. When the Penguins won the Stanley Cup a few years ago Nick Bonino brought it to a minicamp practice and they all posed for pictures with it.

Colin Cowherd says the Steelers are no longer a great organization. Do you agree?

I don't really waste much of my time wondering about the musings of Colin Cowherd or any other national talking head. They all have jobs to do. The Steelers are a national brand so they're talked about more than most. You'd be smart to do what the Steelers should do -- shut out the noise. Honestly, it was kind of silly last week when a few players got bent out of shape because Minkah Fitzpatrick was left off some top 100 list by a national writer. He's obviously a top 100 player. He might be a top 25 or top 50 player. Why even feed into the nonsense?

Because of the limited practices we may have leading up to the season, do you think we're more likely to see Terrell Edmunds lined up as a dime linebacker this year, with Sutton playing as a deep safety, or will the Steelers go to somebody else like Marcus Allen to play in those kinds of sub packages?

You make a good point. If there is a truncated camp the Steelers and every other team will go with known quantities. So veterans that were brought in will have a leg up on rookies. Same goes for players that are vying for those sub-package roles. The players with the most experience will get the most playing time.

Ray, I watched steelers vs. Chargers last night on ESPN (2015), Michael Vick was the Q.B. If steeler fans watched that game and how poorly Vick played maybe their perspective of Mason Rudolph would change a bit. Vick was in his 10th nfl season as a Q.B. Rudolph was in his first year as a starter, behind a very suspect offensive line, minus the offensive line genius of Mike Munchak. As I recall Ben. R. didn't play all that great in the opening game against the Patriots. Your thoughts and thanks for the chats.

Vick was at the end of his career when he signed with the Steelers. That certainly wasn't the best version of Vick that Steelers fans saw. You're right. It was a tough situation for Rudolph. The Steelers think he'll get better. As you saw with their approach to the offseason, they had plenty of opportunities to bring in an experienced veteran, but they didn't bite.

Hi Ray and thanks for keeping the chats going. After seeing what Winston ended up getting from the Saints, basically a million or so a year, do you feel it was a mistake for the Steelers not have made a move for him? He would have made for a quality and affordable back up and possibly a bridge year or two until we find our next franchise QB. Thanks

Here's the deal on that: if they signed Winston then they signaled they're giving up on Rudolph. The Saints were willing to take that gamble because Brees might only play one more year. Ben has said he's finishing out his contract, which runs through the 2021 season.

IF ... there is no 2020 NFL season and the 2021 draft is just a lottery which the Steelers happen to win do they draft Trevor Lawrence #1 overall and cut or trade Big Ben that very day? I can't imagine Big Ben being much of a mentor.

That's a pretty big what-if scenario. And it won't happen so why even speculate?

Albeit the bar is set absurdly low will Big Ben be able to improve on the sweet, sweet, 3 points he scorched the Patriots with last year?

John is down on Ben. I'm not making excuses for him. It was a bad performance. But I think it's obvious his elbow was not 100% in that game. His ligaments didn't just snap from one throw in the Seattle game. It was a wear and tear injury. He managed that elbow for a long time. I think that's why Kevin Colbert has been saying we might see a better version of Ben in 2020.

Regarding Lynch, he is to tall slow delivery makes it easy to read his intentions. Very few QB's that tall can change their height.
Ray Fittipaldo

I hear you. Tall QBs like Brock Osweiler and Dan McGwire and others struggled to find their way in the NFL. There are a few taller Qbs that have had some success, but those guys that are 6-7 or taller don't usually have a lot of success.

Ok thanks for all the questions this week. Let's do it again next week.
