Yes he's an NFL-caliber QB. I'm sure we'll see more designed runs if he ever is the starter, but he's impressed me with his throwing. He's not perfect in that regard, but he's better than I anticipated.

We haven't heard much about Ryan Watts. Is he having a good camp? Do you see him making the 53 man roster? Or is he headed for the practice squad?

He's in contention for one of the final roster spots. He's making the transition from corner to safety so he might end up on the practice squad. But in my first 53-man roster projection (https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2024/08/05/steelers-53-ma...) he made it.

I seem to recall when Smith was in Tennessee they had a special package for Mariota. Is that correct?

He made 61 starts for the Titans but only six when Smith was the OC. Smith did have him in Atlanta for a season in 2022. I don't recall him being a special package guy, but I could be wrong. I think he was just the starter or the backup.

Hey Ray.  Tomlin is respected around the league and happy he’s still our coach. But man is this guy stubborn. Running game was so much better when Broderick went in. Passing game better when Mason went in. Corner play better when Joey went it.  This team can’t afford a slow start this season. We drafted older horses this season so let Troy run with the first team.  Hoping we utilize the rest of camp and move Jones to left and Troy to right.  Enough already w/ Moore! Hope the rest of the camp isn’t wasted with Dan Moore running first team when we all KNOW that won’t last for long.

I say be patient. I think Fautanu entering the starting lineup will happen much sooner than Broderick Jones last year. I think it still happens before the start of the regular season.
