I enjoy them.

If the NCAA cancels CFB and the NFL adds Saturday games will that increase the incoming revenue and possible lessen the salary cap reduction next year?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:30
Yes it certainly would. Anti-trust laws were an issue in the past with the NFL playing Saturday games. But if CFB goes away this year that would open it up for the NFL to take over that air time.

Could the lack of college ball help a team like the Steelers that are looking for their next QB? A guy like Trey Lance might've gone top 5 and now falls. Sure, there's less info to go off of but it's kind of a gamble no matter what.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:32
A guy like Trevor Lawrence isn't going to fall. But there could be some diamonds in the rough that scouts know about that didn't play much last year. The draft will be very interesting in that regard.

Sure, not many Covid cases now... when guys aren't hitting and breathing right into each others' faces on the LOS.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
Right. But do you really think they'll go live much this camp? I don't know what their practice plan will be, but I think getting into this season as healthy as possible is the main goal. It is every year, but especially this year.

I looked up article from 2007, timeline of Alan Faneca contract talks, he was going on 31 (Heyward is 31), Woodson was also 31 his last season (96). Thinking a Cam extension if he chooses to stay would add 2 years onto current deal, some new money then incentive laden. Likely Cam is looking for more security thus will follow ala Faneca/Woodson’s ending to their Steelers careers. Any thoughts? Especially with Tuitt entering his prime and Wormley possibly stepping up.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:35
Except Tuitt has battled injuries and we know next to nothing about Wormley. I see where you're coming from, Cam has earned an extension. I get that COVID change things and it very well could affect his long-term future. But I think it has little to do with Tuitt or anyone else on the defensive line.

Ray, read your projected roster yesterday.  Couple questions about rb:  Any chance that McFarland and Whyte switch places - Mc to practice squad, Whyte to roster?  Second, with the $ Steelers spent on fb Watt, aren't they more or less pressured to use him for a lot of snaps?  And, if so, does this endanger Samuels' spot as a third down back?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
McFarland was a fourth-round pick. I think another team would claim him. As for your point on Watt and Samuels, don't forget Watt is an excellent special-teams player. That will be his main role, but I definitely think they should and will use a fullback more. If not for Roosevelt Nix always being injured the past few years I think they would have used him more.

Saturday games revenue helps push that 2021 salary cup up? Please?!
Ray Fittipaldo
2:38
Absolutely it should. The Steelers should be pressing the league to eat up those Saturday time slots.

Hi Ray -  If, and it is a big if, this season is played and a Super Bowl winner emerges in 1Q21, does the winner have a legitimate trophy or one with an asterisk?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
Do the Redskins Super Bowl championships in 1982 and 1987 have asterisks? It was only a 9-game season in '82 and '87 had a 15-game season, three of which were played with replacement players.

2:39
Is there room for JuJu $$ next season? Diontae became our #1 last season, Washington blocking/clutch catch asset and Claypool could be a DK Metcalf.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:40
I think it gets more difficult when you consider the lower cap figure and the fact that so many defensive players have to be locked up in coming years.

Not a question Ray, but fans really need to lay off on Switzer on twitter. He's competing the best he can, hope he makes it but doesn't deserve the personal attacks.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:41
I agree. All players receive criticism, but it seems like Switzer is an easy target.

  • Steelers first offensive play this year ? Watt FB leading Conner into the line or does Ben play action and go deep ?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:41
Give me the play-action with a deep pass to James Washington or JuJu.

2:42
Hi Ray -  How do you expect playing time to be impacted by unusual run up to game one?  Do starters play only a couple of quarters with more rotation of back ups for the first few games?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:43
No I think teams will do whatever is necessary to win games. If the season is shortened due to COVID-19 every game is magnified.

2:43
What changes in roster and practice squad size will be in effect this year?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:44
Practice squads will have 16 players, up from six. Up to six veterans are now allowed to be on the practice squad. That will be a way for teams to stash veterans that otherwise might be cap casualties in other years.

2:45
Ray, any feedback or thoughts  on practice squad TE Kevin Rader?  Is he good enough to be #3 TE or just a practice squad lifer?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:45
Don't know about a practice squad lifer, but I don't think they'll cut Zach Gentry this summer to keep Rader. But I did like what I saw from Rader last year.

Hi Ray, with JuJu likely not being signed next year due to a reduced salary cap and a dearth of talented (although young) receivers and tight ends on the roster, do you see any possibility that JuJu gets traded? I would hate to see him go but it is a position of strength and its better to get something for him than nothing.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:48
I don't think they're looking to trade him. He can help them win a Super Bowl this year.
Doyle37
2:48
Do you think the NFL will adopt the XFL version of kickoff or any other rule that was attempted in that league ?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:49
I do think eventually you will some some of those rules implemented in the NFL. They want to make kickoffs and punts safer so there were some interesting new plays that we saw from the XFL.
2:51
Ok thanks for all the questions this week. We'll do it again next week.
