Yes, but as I mentioned, I'll wait to fully evaluate him when he's playing with the starters.

What were your thoughts on Zach Gentry?  I would have to believe that Ben would like a 6'8" TE to throw to inside the 10 yard line, how about you?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:28
He did a nice job on the TD catch. He's young and still learning. Not sure he's ready for a role within the offense now, but he could be another James, who played a ton of snaps the past four seasons.

Both kickers looked good on Friday.  But isn’t the job Boswell’s to lose.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:29
At this point, yes. He's been really good in practices too.
Mike
12:29
Would you say that the first drive by the Buc was a case of a)mostly backups on defense
Ray Fittipaldo
12:29
Yes, but the run defense left a lot to be desired. It's never a good sign when anyone gets pushed around on defense whether it's starters or backups.
KJ
12:30
Will most of the Steelers' starters sit out this week's preseason game and wait to get their reps in preseason game #3?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:31
That's usually the way it works.

12:32
What is your take on Kam Kelly's performance against the bucs?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:32
He didn't stand out in a negative way. I saw him come up and make a few tackles.

Ray, when players like Ralph Webb and Alexander Myres are waived injured, does the team retain any rights to them?  They are not on IR correct?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
Correct. They'll come to terms with them on an injury settlement or re-sign them.
KJ
12:33
What were your thoughts on Tevin Jones' performance Friday night?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
I thought he was pretty good.
Mike
12:34
What did you think of Spillman's game?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:34
Good for the most part, but I thought he was exposed a bit in pass coverage.

if Tampa made the 2 pt conversion at the end of the game, would there have been an OT?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:35
I believe so, yes.

Ray,  When you say Rudolph has a ways to go to unseat Dobbs, what  I am missing.  Granted Dobb's can run but that won't last long in this league.  I think the coaches would be very disappointed if Rudolph does not rise to the top?  What are your thoughts?  Thank you.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:35
I'm just saying Dobbs didn't play poorly. I think they would like Rudolph to take the job, but he has to earn it. Friday night was a good first step.

The last five minutes of the Tampa game is the reason why you NEVER bet on preseason games. I  know the players on the field for the most part will be flipping burgers or selling insurance come Sept, but Tomlin could not have been happy with the defensive collapses. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:36
It wasn't all on the defense. Kevin Rader's fumble extended the game. If he doesn;t fumble there they run out the clock.

Is there a reduced amount of tackling in this year's camp? Is it a trend so teams can reduce major injuries and little nagging ones too?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:37
The Steelers tackle more than most teams do, but it's still scaled way back from what it used to be before the 2011 CBA came into existence. Plus, I think coaches realize they need their highest-paid players to be available when the games count so they take it easy on them in camp with vets days off, etc.

So sorry about Richard Drake. Am curious why no one is saying what the cause of death is. Often a reporter will note "an apparent heart attack" or the like.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:39
It's Darryl Drake. And the Westmoreland County coroner's office said an autopsy was performed and that it will be 8-12 weeks before they can say for sure. He died in his dorm room.

When is the first training camp cutdown? Is it after the third preseason game?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:40
Teams used to cut down from 90 to 75 and then 75 to 53, but they just do it all at once after the final preseason game.

Any chance Hodges(qb4) would make practice squad?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:41
I could be wrong, but I don't think the Steelers have ever kept four QBs under Tomlin. Just not enough practice reps to go around. Not sure they did it before Tomlin, either.
BlackJack Bill
12:41
Does Trey Griffey have any chance to make the team?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:41
Long shot, but he did make the practice squad last year. Unfortunately for him, the Steelers have a lot of depth at WR.
KJ
12:41
Any chance Trey Edmunds makes the Steelers' roster this season and join his younger brother Terrell?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:42
He did at the end of last season when he was promoted from the practice squad. If they keep four RBs he'd get the call. Not sure they'll keep four RBs though. Not unless they keep five WRs or eight O-linemen. They kept six and nine at those positions last season.
Mike
12:43
Didn't they keep 4 QBS back when Kordell played?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:44
I'd have to go back and look, but Stewart was basically the fourth WR/Slash that season.
Kiwi Jimmy
12:44
With all the cuts at once, is this a major reason why teams just wait to scavenge the other teams' cuts instead of trading draft picks or swapping players?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:44
I think so, but if you really want a player you trade for him before another team can put a claim in for them.

Ray what your thought on playing starters a couple of series this week against chiefs
