Are the Steelers seriously considering wasting pick 20 on Barton who last played center his freshman year?  How did the last conversion experiment work out?  Greene failed miserably.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:14
Again, why are we comparing Kendrick Green and Graham Barton? I understand the position switch thing, but it happens more than you think with offensive linemen. Just look at Broderick Jones. He had no experience at right tackle and played well there for the most part as a rookie. James Daniels went back and froth from center to guard with the Bears before the Steelers signed him.

Will the Steelers ever go back to the block numbers of the '70s, or resurrect the 'Three Stooges' Bumble Bee jerseys?
Ray Fittipaldo

What's the matter with you?!

Ray, if it was your call, would you pick up Najee's option?  Monetarily, it's not outrageous, but I'm not sure he really loves it here along the banks of the flooded rivers three.  Not to mention the weird captaincy, non-captaincy thing.....
Ray Fittipaldo
2:16
You're right. It's not outrageous. And the way I look at it, you use a first-round pick on a RB then you ought to get as much out of him as you can before you discard him.

Mims, Arnold, JPJ or Barton.  Turn in the card, GM Ray
Ray Fittipaldo
2:18
Barton is the hot name this week so maybe him. But Mims remains a candidate.

Good afternoon Ray what do you think about us possibly drafting Blake fisher from Notre Dame as a Irish fan i like him and i think he would do good here
Ray Fittipaldo
2:19
Maybe on Day 2. He took a visit here last week.

Rookie coaches could never beat us in the past.  The Lebeau defense was too much too handle.  Now it's routine going against the Tomlin defense.  What do you think is the main reason for that?  We seem to regularly get outcoached these past 8-10 years.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:20
LeBeau is in the Hall of Fame for a reason.

Hi Ray.  Thanks for the chats.  Mims only playing 8 games in 2 seasons due to injury has to be a big red flag.  Thoughts on the level of risk of taking Mims at #20 over JC Latham or some of the other RTs we've been discussing for a few months?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:21
I don't think they'd take him over Latham, Fautanu or Fuaga. But if those guys are gone...

Is 40 time the most overrated metric for evaluating potential draft picks in your opinion?  If not what is?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:22
If NFL people didn't find it useful they wouldn't have players do it. The NFL is a speed game. You want the fast and athletic players.

What are the chances the Steelers draft a QB late like the kid from Tenn?  They have 3 QBs already rostered
Ray Fittipaldo
2:23
Chances not great.

It looks like the Steelers have backed themselves into a corner, and will be forced to draft a WR high... do you see it deep enough to grab 2 in the 3rd round?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:23
Two in the third might be pushing it, but it's a very good year for WRs.

Any chance Olinemen Spencer Anderson and Dylan Cook take a step up this year?  Especially Anderson because of his versatility. Or will there careers be limited to showing their jerseys to neighborhood kids?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:24
One wild-card scenario is the Steelers not taking a tackle early, but still moving Jones to the left side. In that case, Cook and Anderson likely would battle for the starting job at RT.

if Fashanu drops to 20, would they snap him up even tho he’s a left?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:26
He can play pretty much anywhere so yes if he's their top player on the board.

Thanks for these chats Ray.  Do you know if any member of the media has ever been given access to the Steelers’ draft war room with the understanding that certain things were/are off the record like arguments, evaluations, etc?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:29
That's never happened.

Hi Ray-  Any possible chance that Steelers plan to move D Washington to R tackle?  Does he have physical attributes to switch to that position?  And to be clear this is the first time I posed a question about a potential position switch.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:29
Washington to tackle is not happening.

When college players do a pre draft visit, what happens at the visit - interview only, tape study, and who from the Steelers participates?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:30
Everyone is involved from personnel department to head coach and the assistants. They put them on the whiteboard, get to know them better. It's a full day.
Yates
2:31
Will we hear from MT and Omar before draft night?  Do the do a pre draft presser?  I cannot recall.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
Yes they do and it's next week.

Ray, could Jack Ham play in the NFL today, or would he have to start his respectable coal management and announcing career immediately?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:32
Hall of Famers can play in any time period.

2:33
Ray, will the brass conduct enough due diligence to ensure that a potential draft pick has functional knee joints?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
I know this question is about Washington and believe it or not sometimes teams take chances on players who won't make it to a second contract, especially late in the third round. What's the harm if he's a good run blocker for four seasons?

Ray, is Barton worth drafting as a tackle at 20? Is so could they draft him with that thought in mind and as a fallback at center if one they want isn’t available in the 2nd
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
They'd be taking him as a center, not a tackle.
