Yes it is. It's been a concern all offseason after the way they finished last season.

10:13
Who would you see is the greatest CB in Steelers' history, after Harvey Clayton, of course.  Kidding about Clayton of course.
Ray Fittipaldo
10:13
That's easy. Mel Blount.

Good morning Ray! Happy for the win. Is the performance of the O-Line one requiring patience as they grow through the season, or one of concern? I thought there would be some early season issues, but that seemed pretty bad.
Ray Fittipaldo
10:14
It's only one week, but I'm concerned.

I know it's only 1 game and things should change, we shouldn't expect AR to throw 4 TDs a game and we better hope the D performs better. With another difficult end of the year schedule I think the Steelers need to be, at worst, 6-2 after eight games if they want to weather the storm of a tough 2nd half schedule.
Ray Fittipaldo
10:14
I think you are right on that. 5-3 at worst.

Ray, what, in your opinion was the biggest issue with the defense on Sunday and do you feel it is correctible with this group?
Ray Fittipaldo
10:15
That's easy a lack of physicality up front and the inability to stop the Jets running game.

Hi Ray - Are you starting to question whether the Khan/Weidle drafting is working? The strategy to own the trenches makes sense. They got blown off the ball on both sides. Seems like the lines are as bad as they've been for years (I do understand Harmon being out didn't help.) Do you predict Jones will still be the starter at LT for the first game in October? Thanj you
Ray Fittipaldo
10:16
Not feeling confident about your October question.

Ray, how much of Jones‘s struggles Sunday would you attribute to Rogers holding onto the ball too long? I thought maybe the first sack, even though he was clearly beaten by Leonard Williams. Other than that, I was ready for the coaching staff to have to pick Rogers up with a spatula. Jones was bad.
Ray Fittipaldo
10:17
Rodgers might have held the ball longer than he wanted on one or two of those, but Jones was beat cleanly on all of his three sacks. There wasn't much resistance.

Hi Ray, are there any ways fans can access the “All-22” camera coverage for games?
Ray Fittipaldo
10:18
Yes. The NFL sells a package for $100 or $150 where you can get the all-22.

10:18
Ray, any updates on 24&25?
Ray Fittipaldo
10:18
Not yet Tomlin talks at noon today.

I hate to sound like the pessimist, but Sunday’s game sure did not look like the Steelers had spent the last three years fortifying the trenches. If the Steelers did not so badly need a quarterback in the first round next year, would you invest in either the offense or defensive line next year?
Ray Fittipaldo
10:19
DL definitely needs younger and better players. They already used high picks on OL.
Tampa Too
10:19
Ray. I know the offensive line didn’t play well, but I don’t remember seeing any holding calls or motion penalties against them. That’s something right?
Ray Fittipaldo
10:19
I suppose.

How did Dan Moore do on Sunday?  Do you think we'd be better off with keeping him and cutting Jones?
Ray Fittipaldo
10:20
I saw some stuff on social media where Titans fans were complaining about his play and the contract he was given so I don't think it was great.
Tim
10:21
Do we need to get back into a rotation at inside linebacker? Seems like Payton Wilson is just too much of a liability on run downs to validate being in there. Bad look when former players text Starkey that the Jets were clearly keying in on him.
Ray Fittipaldo
10:21
If they keep giving up 182 yards on the ground they're going to have to look at all different kinds of solutions.

What are the chances that Claypool, Johnson and Pickens end up on the same USFL team?
Ray Fittipaldo
10:22
Ha ha maybe CFL. Claypool is from Alberta so maybe Calgary or Edmonton. What's their nicknames? With the CFl you;re always safe guessing the Roughriders.

Roman Wilson, where for art thou

mostly on the sidelines.

10:23
Woodson would be the 2nd best CB in your opinion?
Ray Fittipaldo
10:23
Yes for sure.

10:24
So either Jones had technical issues at UGA and was drafted anyway to be coached up or he didn’t have technical issues at UGA and has regressed. Either way how is that not “coached up” at NFL level, kid is an athletic freak at that size….just doomed to fail?
Ray Fittipaldo
10:25
I'm not sure what goes on behind closed doors, but I can't imagine Pat Meyer tells Jones to play with poor technique. If you watch Fautanu his technique is almost flawless. He has great footwork and knows how to use his hands. I guess at some point it does fall on Meyer, but other offensive linemen don't have the issues that Jones does.
AK
10:25
Does college football not prepare offensive lineman for the NFL.  There seems to be more misses with drafting lineman than there used to be.
Ray Fittipaldo
10:26
Good point. The college game is different now. Linemen aren't being prepared for the NFL. We need a few more Joe Moore and Bad Rad disciples coaching, but they're few and far between now.
KJ
10:26
How about the OL play?  Our run game cannot get much worse (even though the Steelers pride themselves as being a "running team") or the pass protection?  Like you said in your "A+" grade of Rodgers: "Imagine what he can do with some semblance of a run game or get any pass protection."
Ray Fittipaldo
10:27
Right! Maybe they would have scored 54 if the OL play was just average.
KJ
10:27
Thanks for the chats and the great job you bring to us Steelers fans each and every day.  Once again the Defense has fallen well short of not only the fans' expectations but, presumably Mike Tomlin's expectations as well - especially with his expectations being "historic." - only this season we have a QB who can bail out the leaky defense! Can we expect any improvement in the tackling and the coverage as this season progresses?
Ray Fittipaldo
10:28
They better or the head coach is going to look foolish for those comments. That comment is looking like the one he made late in the 2017 season when he pretty much came out and said on national television it would be the Steelers and Patriots in the AFC title game
10:29
OK that's all the time I have for today. Have to get to the South Side for the Mike Tomlin news conference. We'll do it again next Tuesday.
