He had a great spin move on one of his sacks and on another had a great move to get around the tackle to get the strip sack of Burrow. That was a big-time game for Highsmith, and the Steelers need more of that during Watt's absence.

Sunday was the first time I saw the Minkah that apparently everyone else has raved about, even when the tape didn;t show it... Wow, what a game. That said, having your/a Safety/DB lead the team in tackles isn't usually a good thing. With T.J. out is this going to put M.F. back where he was last season... negating his prowess, again?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:22
I sure hope not. They did OK against the run on Sunday. Those issues with Fitzpatrick's alignment happened last season when they were getting gashed, and he had to change his game.

Ray, why is not my catch getting more exposure? Because I'm fairly quiet and not your typical WR diva, perhaps?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:22
It was a great catch. Dare I say AB-like.

It's disingenuous for Tomlin to insist that the offense did what was necessary to win the game when they clearly did not; the game was lost if not for the injury to the Cincy long-snapper, are we expected to believe that was part of Tomlin's game plan? Running an offense solely focused on not turning the ball over is another example of Tomlin 'living in his fears'.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:24
But what if the officials didn't flag Fitzpatrick for the very iffy unsportsmanlike conduct penalty with a few seconds left. We can do this all day with the what-if scenarios.

Hi Ray. I hear it over and again to not put a lot into the week 1 performances. I just can't help but notice the Steelers offense looks a lot like last year. Receivers don't appear to get separation and there are no running lanes. I can't also help but notice receivers get open (enough) on other teams, especially across the middle. Is it too early to blame Canada? He doesn't have a sterling track record and I don't believe much pro experience.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:25
Yeah I'll give it more than one game, but I agree what I saw Sunday was not overly encouraging in spite of what Tomlin said earlier this afternoon.

Another issue I have with Canada's lack of situational/flow is that Najee busts off his best run for that long 1st down... then Canada goes away from him next play. He (Canada) also doen't seem to subscribe, ever, to 'Striking While The Iron Is Hot'... after a turnover or big return, etc..
Ray Fittipaldo
2:27
Didn't Canada called a flea flicker on the first play after one of those turnovers? I made the comment in the press box that it was out of Ken Whisenhunt's playbook. First play after a turnover, when in the middle of the field, run a gadget play. And it worked.

Looking into your crystal ball, who will be remembered as the best quarterback to play in the Super Bowl and never return - Marino or Burrow?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:28
I'm not so sure Burrow won't return, but Marino is pretty much always going to be that guy. He was one of the most talented QBs to ever play in the NFL.

Ray, I firmly believe that HCMT directed M Canada to not call many, if any, passes across middle of the field, based on what he stated was the way he wanted the offense to fuction.

I really hope the lack of going to Pickens isn't another pecking order/ politics thing like when Claypool led the team with 7 TDs as rookie and they stopped going to him for a looong stretch of the season like they had been.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:30
Let's hope not. He's one of their best playmakers.

Any news on Wallace? With the exception of the TD to Chase I thought the three corners played exceptional
Ray Fittipaldo
2:30
I don't think Tomlin even mentioned him today when he ran down the injuries.

You think Minkah's huge contract was worth it?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
I do.

Why in the world is Greene still listed on the Steelers.com web page as 6'4"?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:32
It's that way on the NFL draft and combine profile, too. I can't tell you why they choose to run inaccurate information, but I can promise you Green is closer to 6-1 than 6-4

In recent years the Steelers have lost Heyward, Tuitt and Watt to torn pecs. Is this injury something that results from the heavy weight training these big men do?

Dionte Johnson made some amazing catches Sunday... I just wish he'd stop turning and running backwards on every catch not on the sideline. The opposit of Claypool, who seems to run out of bounds too easy. Not that I want him to initiate contact but...
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
I have no complaints with Johnson and his run after the catch.

Ray...Overall, I feel the 2022 Steelers have the defense that can finish top 10 and an offense (including QBs & Skill Positions) that can finish top 15-20.  My only concern is of course the OL and my main concern (more than pass protection) is their inability to consistently create any space.  I know it is early, but when I see players like Cole & Daniels (who we spent some coin on) not getting a push, I have to wonder is it the scheme, blocking technique, or what?  Daniels had success in Chicago so what are your thoughts on this outside of needing time to gel (gelling isn't necessary to push a defender back or to the side in my mind).
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
I think you are a little generous there thinking this offense can be middle of the pack (15-20).

Hey Ray, love chats. Any idea why Witherspoon was so far off Chase on the last TD? It looked like an incredibly easy throw for Burrow
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
He made a mistake.

2:37
Ray, not that he's to blame of course, but if Najee does not go down, the good guys win the game much more conventionally, due to the time out situation. Concurrence on your end?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
Yes. Unfortunate break there.

Thought Bush played well for most part... His coverage on that deep sideline pass, late was blanket? Still... don't like to see our LBs in coverage so much.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:38
I agree. He was step for step with Perine on that play.

Given how the defense feasted, how do you feel T. Edmunds performed?  It seems like everyone filled up the stat sheet, but I didn’t hear his name called.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:40
I didn't see any glaring errors nor did I see any splash plays.

Do you think Gentry gets a second contract?  I like the two TE set with him and ‘Muth.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:41
I think they're open to it. Won't be for much if they do.

2:41
For this offense to improve - does Tomlin and Canada need to open up the playbook more?  Utilize the skills of their players better?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:41
Yes and I think we'll see that at some point. But don't count on it if the Steelers get another big, early lead.

2:42
I think we could have the 'Bus' in his prime at RB and it wouldnt matter with this pathetic O line.  I would rest Najee as much as you can before risking a long-term injury, dont you agree?
