Butler has always been candid. That's not necessarily new, but whatever the reason internal strife is one among them.

Ray, what has happened to the KC Chiefs?  Too much money spent on too few good players?  Thanks.

The defense is bad and they haven't adjusted to teams playing coverage against them and keeping everything underneath. They need to be more patient and willing to put together long drives.

Would you say the KC game in now winnable?

It's on the road so it will be a tough game no matter what and maybe by then they'll have solved their problems. It's two months away so there is no way of saying now.

I’m not in the camp that believes Green is too small, but I was curious enough to check. The Steelers list him at 6-4, 315 which doesn’t pass the eye test. Pro Football Reference says he was 6-1 305 for the draft and Sports – Reference.com says he was 6-2 305 during his 2020 college season. Those seem closer. Why are the Steelers not being truthful? What possible advantage does it give them to be deceitful when everyone can see with their own eyes.

I can tell you he's not 6-4. I think 6-1 is fair. And football teams have been lying about height and weight in media guides for years. At some point or another someone thought it was a good idea, but I can't imagine there is any advantage now. All these teams know the measurements because most of these guys are at the combine. And then ones who don't get invited are being worked out in private workouts.

By unusual candor I meant speaking directly against Tomlin's defensive strat/theory vs speaking about players or general aspects of the games, in the past. Thank you though for your candor!

I just think he was giving some insight into the give and take that is involved when they put a game plan together. And he said Tomlin is the boss and has final say. Would most DCs say that? No, but Butler is near the end of his career and it doesn't really seem like he cares.
Cares about optics or stuff like that. Obviously he cares about his job.

Ray.  Zero percent chance STEELERS make a play for Watson?  I know the PR hit would be huge(at least in the beginning).  But if he performs it will all be “forgotten” or at least put on back-burner. Agree?
Ray Fittipaldo

I agree. Other teams are in more desperate straits and will take the PR hit.

With the DLine in such a state... despite the obvious needs elsewhere... Do you think it's possible the Steelers go D-Line in Rd 1. next year... say Aidan Hutchinson, if they draft that high?
Ray Fittipaldo

I could see them taking a DL high. Not sure it will be in the first round, but I think it's time to add some young depth there especially with Tuitt's uncertain situation.

Hi Ray, I want to get your thoughts on Loudermilk. He's looked like a much better option than Wormley at DE.
Ray Fittipaldo
1:52
Loudermilk looks like he'll be a solid player in the future, but I don't know if he's ready for a primetime role just yet.

How big of a mistake was the Steelers passing on Darious Leonard in the draft in favor of Edmunds?  They had a clear need at ILB at the time, and instead reached for a different position, and have been burning draft capital like crazy ever since to make up for it...
Ray Fittipaldo

Yeah Leonard is a great player. Watched him last night in the Colts-49ers game. In hindsight, that was a bad pick. Wonder what their knock on Leonard was.

Hi Ray, not sure if this has already been asked but do you think the steelers will be active at the trade deadline, either buying or selling?
Ray Fittipaldo

I don't anticipate anything major, let's put it that way and wouldn't be surprised if nothing happens.

Ok thanks for all the questions today. Brian and I switched days this week so he'll be doing his chat tomorrow in my usual slot.
