Hi Ray, forget getting a QB in the 2026 draft.  Defensive back 7 needs a complete overhaul.  Start with Caleb Downs from Ohio State in round 1 and move forward to the DL.  JPJ is a bust, Queen cannot cover, TJ is washed up!  Your thoughts.  Thanks Ray.

Hi Ray, going off an earlier question, wouldn't zone be harder to play given the communication issues?  It seems man would be easier if the help (on top WRs) was better.

Not a very high opinion at the moment. He clearly missed on the Slay evaluation. That was a waste of money, Ramsey remains an effective player in the slot and at safety, but Tomlin had visions of him still being a shutdown CB. That's no longer the case, and that's on Tomlin for putting him in bad situations.

Is it possible to scheme Watt, Highsmith, and Herbig on the field at the same time?  Max out on pass rush since they can't cover.

It seems to me that most of the "missed tackles" have a lot to do with trying to strip the ball instead of wrapping the guy up. Maybe they should just play fundamental defense?

It's not just that. They take bad angles. They sometimes make business decisions. I see other teams with players flying around. You just don't see that with the Steelers. Why? They have veterans who have already been paid. They don't have young and hungry players who want to be paid.

They've always hired young assistants in their 30s so I'm guessing that would be the move again if they ever decided to move on from Tomlin.

They've always hired young defensive assistants too. I think that should change when they look for Tomlin's replacement. This is an offensive league.

Hi Ray, and thank you for your time as always.  So we know Tomlin will never get fired, it gets talked about every year, never happens,  we know that. The question i have, is why wont Art Rooney say ok Tomlin stays, but I want you to hire a new DC and give him control of the highest paid defense? Change us needed

I don't think Tomlin would cede control of the defense. But maybe if Art asked him to do that he would step aside. Then again, why would I guy who is owed $40 million or whatever he's owed walk away? That's the problem with these multi-year contracts. There was no reason for the Steelers to do a three-year deal with him when they did it.

If the Steelers drop to 4-4 after Sunday, any chance they become a seller at the deadline? Even If not, do you see any player on this roster that could possibly be a trade candidate for someone else?  Anyone on an expiring deal or at a logjam at a position?

I don't think they'll be sellers. But since you want to play the game Highsmith is the obvious candidate over the offseason if they want to sign Herbig.

Ray, not really a football question but more of a sports writers question. Of all the game times that are played, which is your favorite and which is your least favorite. Do you prefer the Sunday 1 o’clock games to cover or the 4 o’clock games. The Monday night games, the Thursday night games or the occasional Saturday games later in the season.

Ray, i have to be honest - hope is in short supply for me.  So many areas of deficiencies.   None greater in my opinion is the deficiency of Art Rooney II’s lack of leadership.   Do you think AR2 is incapable of leading this franchise or does he just not care?  It could actually be borh things are true. To keep it simple i guess real question is does art2 care at all and if so why doesn’t he do anything at all to show it and lead ?

Yes he cares. One thing he can do is give a directive to the front office and coaching staff to get younger with the roster. If they have a few losing seasons so be it. It doesn't take long to rebuild in the NFL. Look at the Patriots. All it takes is a good coach, a good QB and some savvy personnel moves.
