Despite their 5 wins, this offense is still bad, and the defense has its issues in the secondary. Do you think there is any way that the team will gel together and become a playoff winner this year?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:24
All depends on the development of the offense. But first, they have to get there. They're no lock.
Tampa too
2:24
Ray    Since the offense is notoriously a very slow starting offense why in the world would Tomlin not defer if he wins the coin toss? I know last week they came down and scored a touchdown on the first possession, but that has never happened before. Your thoughts
Ray Fittipaldo
2:24
He wants to show confidence in them. Plus, they actually scored a TD on the first drive against the Titans. His strategy actually worked.

How close are we to having too many injuries to keep the defense - our real NFL team - competitive? Thrilled to have Hayward back, but is losing Minkah short term and Holcomb for the season just too much to ask of the offense? It’s not like we can put up points to win (our losses are SF scoring 30, Texans scoring 30, and the Jaguars scoring 20).
Ray Fittipaldo
2:25
Injuries are mounting. They've done a nice job of overcoming them in the first half of the season. Roberts and Alexander definitely have to step up.

JPJ shadowing one of the best WRs in the past decade last week in "Nuk" Hopkins ended up working out well for the team. Do you see JPJ doing the same from week-to-week (Watson, Cooper, Chase upcoming) or do you think the gameplan is going to depend on the opposing WR group's talent as a whole?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:26
Tomlin explained today how it was good for the team, too. There's a lot that goes into those decisions.
Contradiction?
2:26
Tomlin chastised the media today for talking about Pickens and getting onto social media stories.  Hasn't he said he doesn't follow social media in the past?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:26
Hmmm.

Wouldn't it be advantageous to explore playing Nick Herbig some at MLB? He has shown the motor and skill in his brief appearances at OLB and all Steeler LBs are dropped into coverage anyway so... at 6'2" 240 why not or is keeping him on the bench more important. They have other OLBs too... Frankly I'd like to see him more, over the "experienced" practice squad guys.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:28
That's an interesting thought. He does have that versatility. The coaches talked about that the day he was drafted. But he hasn't played there at all in practices. So unless they give him a crash course it's not going to happen next season.

I think if Robinson was ready, he would've already had a lot more snaps than he's had so far this season. From reading the stats and games played by M. Walker, he seems like someone who could step in a do the job based on his good numbers and experience. What say you?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:29
Walker is coming back from an injury. Not sure he's back to where he was pre-injury. Maybe we'll find out.

After the next 3 games, I expect the Steelers will be 6-5 at worst 7-4 at best. With those possible scenarios, do you think the Steelers can get to 10 wins which I think is a minimum target to get to the playoffs?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
The Steelers should beat the Packers, Cardinals, Patriots and Colts. They should be favored in those four games. That would give them nine wins. So they'd need one upset to get to 10 -- any of the following against the Bengals (twice), Browns, Ravens or Seahawks. Very doable, but can't slip up against any of the four teams they should beat.

Any status on Friermuth and how his recovery is going? Sure be nice for Kenny to potentially, finally, have his top 3 receivers on the field at the same time...
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
I think the target date is next week in Cleveland or Cincinnati the following week. He's eligible to come off IR for the Browns game.

Tomlin constantly preaches accountability. How can he justify starting Harris over Warren when Warren is CLEARLY outplaying Harris? I can see giving Harris 30-35% of the carries but Warren is the better runner and receiver and deserves more snaps than Harris.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
Having two good RBs isn't a bad thing. And dividing the touches can be beneficial in terms of keeping both players fresh. I don't need to see Harris benched, but I would like to see Warren's touches increase.

With the rash of QB injuries across the league, have teams reached out to see if Mason or Mitch might be available?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
The trade deadline was last week.
The Real Wilson
2:34
Martavius Bryant sighting? I'm surprised Tomlin doesn't offer him a shot, he loves reclamation projects
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
If he wasn't out of the league for five years I'd say yes. But five years is a long time.

2:34
Any timetable on Minkah's return? Steelers can get by Green by without him, but he will be essential against the Browns and the Bengals.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:35
They didn't put him on IR so it's clear they believe he'll be back soon.
Chooch
2:35
If they'd have switched Jarvis Jones to ILB they wouldn't have had to to make that awful trade up for Devin Bush. Jarvis was more of a natural ILB anyway, why wasn't this staff creative enough to make a move like that
Ray Fittipaldo
2:35
Ah yes and Shazier to safety too, right?
Enough is Enough
2:36
To answer your question - yes, I would bench him.  This is exactly how AB started out.  Tomlin gave him special treatment and created the monster we see today.  If you don't learn from your mistakes of the past, you are doomed to repeat them.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
It's at the expense of the team though. The better plan is to coach him up and hope he comes around.

What do you think of the Steelers hiring a hypnotist to mesmerize Kenny Picket into thinking that EVERY quarter is the fourth quarter?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
I like it! Maybe he can be on the sideline too.
Henri
2:37
Amazing to see Tomlin making excuses for Pickens. Heading for another AB situation. Does Tomlin discipline anyone?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:38
Shame on Tomlin if it does come to that. I don't think it will.
NC steeler
2:39
If you could pluck one former steeler (not Big Ben) to add to this current team from the past 20 years in their prime who do you think would help the most?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
AB if his mind is right.
Jim
2:39
Do you think that loss to the mediocre Texans will come back to bite them? Seems like we have a loss like that every year to a team we should beat.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
The Texans are 4-4 and have a pretty darn good offense if you haven't noticed.
NC steeler
2:42
Any word yet on Fitzpatrick injury? Will he be ready for Sunday?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:42
He's not eligible to come off IR until next week.
