Different types of receivers. They both need to step up their production. Robinson doesn't have a catch in the past two games and Austin only had one catch versus the Packers. They need more from their depth receivers.

Starkey says that Howell at this point looks like a much better QB than Pickett. I tend to agree what is your opinion?
Ray Fittipaldo

I haven't seen enough of Howell.

Hi Ray. Hope you're doing well. Can you please tell me who makes the decisions to accept/decline penalties in the NFL games? I know in lower levels like youth and high school (at least when I played), the ref asks the captain on the field. But it seems to be done so fast in the NFL. Is the official on the sideline asking the head coach prior to the announcement? Thank you.
Ray Fittipaldo

The head coach.

Hey Ray - With Muth returning do you think the attention to GP will drop off some?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:40
They'll need to target Freiermuth and get him some catches. They didn't do that even when he was healthy early in the season. They should lean into it now though because the passing game isn't very good.

Is ILB Nick Kwiatkoski available? He looked pretty good in the preseason before getting injured.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:41
He remains a free agent, but it doesn't sound like he's a candidate for the active roster. Tomlin said Mychal Walker will be elevated from the practice squad this week so that's their approach, for this week at least.

Are you looking forward to a night out on the town Saturday eve in Cleveland?
Ray Fittipaldo

1 p.m. game. Up and back in the same day. We usually only stay if it's a night game.

Najee has been criticized for the hurdle at the sideline but I thought he made the line to gain.  It appeared that Tomlin was going to challenge the spot but then he didn't.  Was there a rule that prevented him, or was it his call?  It was hard to tell on TV.
Ray Fittipaldo

He had the ball in his left arm and was pushed out of bounds so the ball never did reach the line of gain.

Ray, has the line moved on the game at all? I need a win badly. Cmon man.
Ray Fittipaldo

Up to 4 from 3.5 on DraftKings today. Will probably stay right around there.

what are some of  Mark Robinson strengths and weaknesses.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:45
He's good downhill in the run game. But he'll have to be better in all areas because he's going to get first dibs on starting.

Who gets the green dot with Kwon gone?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:46
Likely Roberts, but Tomlin would not commit to that today when asked.

Tomlin started his post-game talk with the run down of failure on a bevy of 3rd downs and was surprisingly candid, at least from my perspective. However, true to form, he ended it with mocking one of your collegues and calling you all, essentially abulance chasers or as he put it... "Emergency vehicles"... I was offended but how did you take it... The last question he mocked was about what transpired on the hit out of bounds at the end.

I heard about the remark, but wasn't in the room. They open the locker room at the same time Tomlin goes to the podium. I wanted to interview players more than Tomlin. I usually go to Tomlin when they play night games because I'm on a tighter deadline.

Any reports on DeShaun Watson's MRI for his ankle? He seems to be coming on of late. Maybe the Steelers' D can get in his head some more.

I heard Tony Grossi say today on the Fan he's expected to play but they won't have an update until Wednesday at the earliest.

Between Covid and a long but successful fight with cancer, was able to attend my first game in 5 years on Sunday. From my season tickets in the closed end of the end zone, looked like Kenny played a sound, winning game. Didn’t see him miss any open receivers downfield. And given the huge holes the line was opening, would have been foolish not to stick with running game. Why all the QB bashing the last two days?

First off, congrats on getting healthy. And I think the complaining comes from the WRs not being targeted when they had some 1-on-1s.

Do you or Gerry ever do any Cleveland radio in the days before Steelers-Browns games?
Ray Fittipaldo

Yes on occasion.

Love the chat! What do the Steelers need to do in order to get the ball to the middle of the field? An offense cannot continue to dump it off on the sideline behind the line of scrimmage.

The return of Pat Freiermuth should help.
Ok thanks for taking part in this week's chat. We'll do it again next Tuesday.
