He's played well, but they like DeShon Elliott too. If Dugger is cheap maybe you bring him back as a backup, but there isn't a place for him as long as Elliott is healthy.

Ray, I’m sure you’ll get enough coaching questions so here’s one with a twist. If you could pick any former Steelers player (except Vrabel) to be the Steelers next HC, who would you go with?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:08
Hmmm, there are plenty of former Steelers in coaching and doing very well. Randle El is Chicago's assistant head coach. Deshea Townsend is the DBs coach and passing game coordinator for the Lions. But if I had to pick one who could set the tone for the organization I'd have to go with James Harrison. I don't think any players would fall out of line under his watch. ha ha

Hi Ray...for those who think that Tomlin hasn't eroded the "Steeler Way', just look at how far we have come from the Draft and Develop franchise building! We are now George Allen's Redskins, with less success! C'mon Art 2, do what you know is necessary!

Ray, in your humble opinion, please cut to the chase and give us a one-word answer on what’s at the core of this defensive debacle.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:09
To quote Warren Sapp: "Old, slow and it's over." Oops. That's five words.

Do you think Tony Romo was correct when he kept observing that Rodgers was going through his reads but no receivers were open?  Is this something you have observed over time he season as well? Thx.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:11
That's true, but he also missed some open guys.

Did we miss again on 3rd pick Kaleb J  like we did on  Roman W.  Skattebo,  sampson , Mark's, Monangai, and a few others  all better and picked later.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:12
I wouldn't say that just yet, but Warren and Gainwell are young. I'm not sure how Johnson fits in if Arthur Smith remains as coordinator.

Ray:  In 2018, the Texans traded Brock Osweiller and a 2nd and 6th round pick for just a 4th round pick to the Browns to get out of paying Osweiller's guaranteed money.  Are trades like this still allowed and if so, should the Steelers look to move on from TJ this way?  Alternatively, do you think there would be a taker for TJ's contract ($64m remaining guaranteed, $100m remaining total over three years) and the Steelers could just net draft capital in such a trade without having to give up picks to get out of the deal?  His deal really looks like the worst in team history 12 games in.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:14
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think Watt's play is far down the list of problems for the Steelers. Is he playing up to the contract? No. Are there reasons for that that are out of his control? Yes.
Hi Ray -
11:14
Would you start Asante Samuel JR for the rest of the season to see if he is an option for next season opposite Porter?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:14
Not a bad idea. And it looks like he'll get a chance this week because Pierre was concussed against the Bills.

Hi Ray - what was clear to me from Sunday is the offense has 5 play makers: Metcalf, Mooth, Mt Washington and the two backs - and absolutely no other talent. I think they need two strong receivers - big, fast, good route runners - to be a competitive offense. Is it realistic to find two impact players in the draft/free agency?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:15
Sure it is, but it might be hard if you use some of that draft capital on a QB.

Hi Ray, I know that the Defense continues to get slammed and rightly so, for giving up huge chunks of rushing yards vs Buffalo.  However, in terms of points, I felt like if you yield only 19 points (which they did), the offense has a chance.  Steelers are driving with about 10 min left and they run on 4th and 2 after gouging the Bills with the pass.  Time of possession was over 41 minutes for the Bills, the offense needs to be better and that helps the D.   Just my opinion.

11:17
One week the offense stinks, the next week the defense stinks. This team is just so inconsistent. It's actually hard to believe how inconsistent they are. I've never seen anything like it.

Good Morning Ray, Rodgers said that receiver(s) was/were not present at a planning session earlier in the week.  Why isn't it mandatory for receivers to be in meetings?  Could that explain the Friermuth absence or the Jonnu Snafu?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:18
Reading between the lines, it appeared Rodgers said that about Smith. But it's hard to say that with 100% certainty.

Even with 3 TEs and high draft picks on our OL we dont run the ball well....especially when we need to.  Is that scheme or a lack of talent?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:19
Probably both. And maybe something else too.

Should "Renegade" be replaced with "The End" by The Doors?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:20
I could not believe they played it! Even if I was told to play it by Art Rooney II I would have refused. Talk about not reading the room.

Ray, no show November into unleash Hell in December. Will they go least 3-2?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:21
I doubt it, but you never know.

Was Harmon's absence the main reason why they could not stop the run?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:22
No, but his absence did not help.

Is Pat Friermuth hurt?  He had 64 catches and 7 tds last season and i don’t recall seeing much of him in that debacle of a game last Sunday.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:23
He's not hurt.

If only first play of second half was a run. Too many times we don't hammer the nail when needed.....

Exactly!

11:25
Ray what do you think about the play of Jalen Ramsey i think he has looked good recently
Ray Fittipaldo
11:25
I like him at safety. He wasn't great at outside CB.

11:26
Hi Ray, they are in position to move up in 26' Draft but should they do that for a QB? Their needs are many. BPA at almost any position would be better than a flier on a QB.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:27
I think they'd have to be in agreement on the QB. But if they love one of these guys you do what it takes to get them.

Doesn’t it seem a little redundant to spend millions on the Esplanade project when we already have a circus/amusement park right up the street?

I cannot decide what was worse. That quote or the one to Tony Dungy in 2017 about seeing the Patriots again in the title game
