Ray Fittipaldo's Steelers chat: 12.10.24

It drives me nuts when the Steelers take shots on low percentage passes on 3rd and short.  Sometimes it is better to just move the chains.  Tom Brady made a living off taking the "cheap yards" with less than marginal wide receivers.  Why are we so reluctant to try and hit a WR in the middle of the field and let him run?
Ray Fittipaldo

Wilson did have 1-on-1s there, but they were low-percentage passes. I agree with you, but I also know most turnovers occur when you throw over the middle. I'm sure that's part of it.

I think it's a near lock Russell Wilson is back with the Steelers in 2025. I don't see money being an issue, he'd be crazy to try and go and establish himself with a new team next year. What is the likely scenario for our backup QB position? Fields content being a backup?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:24
I think Kyle Allen can step into the backup role and be fine. Maybe you bring in another vet or draft a young player to be the No. 3

If you had to, would you bet they clinch the AFC North on 12/21?

If Pickens plays they'll have a decent chance. Without him it will be tough.

Ray, Philly seems to be a Mike Tomlin kind of team.....run....possess...defend. Do you think either coach will open up the passing game? I'm thinking none of the diva WRs are going to be happy on Sunday. What say you?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:28
I think this could be a low-scoring game, but if you look at the weapons on paper the Eagles have a big edge with Brown and Smith over whoever the Steelers trot out there at WR.

Ray, I’m planning on coming to the ‘burgh  to watch my favorite team and taking in the sights as time permits. Any restaurants you could recommend? Thanks.

Ranucci's. It's the former CC's Cafe near Sharpsburg. Great food and drinks. The Strip District is good for Italian restaurants too.

Good Afternoon Ray what do you think about the play of Deshon Elliott he has Looked Good this season Go Steelers
Ray Fittipaldo
2:30
Really good. He has a hamstring injury this week. They can ill afford to lose him.

More impactful signing that few are interested in or talking about - Waitman or Skowronek
Ray Fittipaldo

And both came after the season started I believe. Great pickups.

You say positive thay they can game plan for no Pickens- I say negative because Philly can now game plan for an inferior receiver corps. Tomatoe v. tomato?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:32
But they don't know who will be featured. Will it be Freiermuth? Mike Williams? Could the Steelers throw to short to the RBs as they did versus the Bengals? I get what you're saying, but this is why Arthur Smith gets paid the big bucks.

Hi Ray. Do you expect to see Corey Trice Jr. back in the line up soon? Looks like the coaches are showing a lot of faith in James Pierre. Could you see a situation where Pierre stays in the line up and Trice bumps Beanie Bishop to the bench or inactives list?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
That's what happens when you get injured. Other guys get opportunities and they play well. It's unfortunate for Trice, but Pierre has been solid. And as long as that's the case I'm not sure Trice is a big part of the secondary rotation.

Do you think since Pickens is out for sure against eagles Williams will be in most of the game
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
I don't know about most of the game, but he'll play more than he has been.

Ray, no question, just a tribute. We recently lost a good friend, Randy, who was a huge Steeler fan. I know he'd be stoked to be mentioned in this chat, if you can find your way to post it in his honor. RIP.

Steeler MVP so far ...I say Chris Boswell?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
Boswell is a solid choice, but they have other candidates like Heyward, Watt and of course Russell Wilson.

Ray, I think it's time Corliss Waitman is shown some love from fans and media.  He's been spectacular, with the exception of one ill-timed clinker on a snow-covered field.  And to think, we had to put up with Pressley for three awful years!  What's your take?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:38
I agree. He had a great punt that forced Toney to fumble on Sunday.

Is seed #2 worth anything, or do starters rest if we win division?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
2 seed means a ton. Wouldn't you rather play the divisional round game at home?
OK that's all the time I have today. Let's do it again next Tuesday.
