Playing man seemed better than the soft zone mess we've put in front of brady for the past 17 years, but it still resulted in them going 70-some yards in 70 seconds when it mattered most.  How is that ok?

Hay maybe it would have been 70 yards in 40 seconds if they were in zone. And then the Steelers would have had more time at the end... That's it. That's the ticket. Go back to zone.

I don't argue that they applied the rule correctly, however I thought there had to be indisputable evidence to overturn a call?  As it was ruled a TD on the field that means that they had to see the ball hit grass with 100% certainty.  I have not seen one angle that showed that, have you?

You see the ball hit the ground, but the question is whether he loses control. That's a judgment call and it's one Alberto Riveron made from the NFL offices in New York, where he made several other controversial rulings this season. There was even one in the Raiders-Cowboys game last night. There was a guy for the Raiders who bobbled the ball before he hot the ground, then trapped the ball against the ground, and it was ruled a catch by Riveron. It has the appearance that he's just guessing and making it up as he goes along, which very well might be the case.

Last evening was the classic example of why a team should hurry up and kick the extra point before the referee gets “buzzed” to review the touchdown play.  Several weeks ago I was watching another pro game and there was a possible question if the receiver had both feet in bounds.  They quickly kicked the extra point and thus the review could not take place.

There is no buzz. All TDs are reviewed.

Coaching blunders greatly contributed to yesterdays loss: 2-23 HoF QB hand off to 3rd string RB, Not covering Gronk at all off line/blitz Brady in Shotgun, The slant on the "fake spike"  Is Tomlin going to switch from Teflon to Copper Top soon?

What would have said if Roethlisberger threw an interception on that second-and-23 play and set up the Patriots with possession in Steelers' territory?

Any chance that the Ravens or Chiefs go to Foxboro and beat the Pats? I like the odds, they both have stout defenses that are better suited to beating Brady than ours.

Not sure I'd call the Chiefs defense stout. I actually think the Ravens would have a better chance with their defense. I just don't have any confidence in the Ravens scoring enough to win that game.

Did the Steelers tip their hand any with their scheme in this game?  Do they have enough wrinkles to keep NE guessing the next time they play?

So you wanted the coaching staff to hold some things back just in case they might play in the playoffs? They had a chance to secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with a win. You empty your playbook in that situation and do everything you can to win.

My biggest issue with the incompletion was that James clearly had control and made a football move (stretching out to cross goal line).  Had his arms been outstretched during the catch and not after the catch, I have no issue.  Your thoughts?

I wonder what they would have ruled if James stayed on his knees and stretched the ball across the plane for like 3 seconds. Then the Patriots player knocked him over and the ball came out. In other words, what is the time frame for the catch, you know? There was no Patriots player near him at the time of the catch.

If they meet again in New England and Brown and Haden are healthy. Would you give the Steelers a chance?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:04
Right now, I'd give them a 20 percent chance to win in New England even if Haden and Brown are available. They have an advantage there. Teams go there and have issues with radio communication. They've deflated footballs in cold weather to gain an edge. Who knows what they're up to now. So no, I don't like the Steelers' chances.

Why no taunting penalty on Gronk after the two point conversion? There seems to be no consistency with any of the officiating in the NFL anymore.

Better question: What was Sean Davis doing on that play?

The rule is the rule. Why can't the focus be on there is no CLEAR visual evidence of the ball hitting the ground? The ruling on the field must stand!! Was it New York or Head ref who made that interpretation?

Alberto Riveron in the NFL offices overruled the referee on the field. This change was made a few years ago. It used to be Dean Blandino making the calls from NYC. Riveron is in his first year doing the job.

OK we went overtime this week. Thanks for all the questions. No chat next week because it's Christmas.
