It's tough to play two RBs at the same time. They can on occasion, but it's not something you can do down in and down out. As for Miller over Austin, they'll play the healthiest player. And Austin's hamstring injury could be a convenient way to keep Miller in the mix.

I guess it is just society, but is the any way for teams to start requiring better etiquette and actions at games. I get DK was wrong but seriously what was that fan doing there? I for one am giving up going to games after a drunk fan a few rows back from me was loudly obnoxious for 3 quarters and the puked on people in front of him. Year after the year at least 1 of my games is ruined by fans. I wasted money, but can you imagine training/working everyday to have some schmuck ruin your season?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:28
As I said before, Metcalf should have walked away, but I think Ford Field security could have done a better job there too. I've seen the videos and some pictures of the guy. It seems like he might have something wrong with him. Maybe that's why security was hands off. I don't know. It's a touchy situation when you have fans with issues.

Ray, what are the odds 95 breaks the sack record on Mason (oh the irony)?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:28
A little too ironic, don't you think?

Hey Ray - if the Ravens lose Saturday night to the Packers, do you see the Steelers resting most starters the last 2 weeks or continuing the momentum they've been built recently?  Thanks.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:30
They'll rest select guys.

The DK incident is quite confusing. Whether the allocations of racism are true or not, there must have been something happen that caused him to even approach the fan. Yes I understand that players must be hands off to fans, but to me, this is just another example of a perpetrator getting more consideration than the victim.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:31
The NFL investigated the matter. If they felt like the fan was at fault in any way I don't think they would have suspended Metcalf for two games.

What ever happened to blowing a play dead after forward progress is stopped? It seems that rugby scrums are becoming the norm. There is a balance between giving a guy a chance to break a tackle, but shouldn't it be easy to blow dead when other offensive players are joining the pile?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:32
I agree. Way too many instances of late whistles on such plays.

Do you think the "Fire Tomlin" chants influenced MT to change his approach? The team seems much more aggressive on both sides of the ball. He does not seem to be living in his fears quite as much.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:33
I don't think it was the "Fire Tomlin" chants, but certainly something made him change his approach. It might have been how they were so inept overall in the Bills game. They needed a spark. The aggressive nature on fourth downs have done that the past two games. And they're playing fast and downhill on defense.

Mr. Ray, love the work. Did our Oline really make strides, or was this more on Lions D. If we can truly run at will, we got a chance right?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:35
The Lions D is pretty bad but hey you can only play the teams on the schedule.

Hi Ray. Were you surprise Kaleb Johnson was a healthy scratch in Detroit? Clearly, he wasn't missed. Is it possible we don't see him again this season, unless the Steelers clinch the division against the Browns and he gets the start in a meaningless game against the Ravens?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:36
Probably had something to do with special teams. He doesn't contribute much on special teams. And when he was active he was maybe getting 3-5 snaps a game. Hard to shoehorn him into the offense when Warren and Gainwell are playing so well.

11:37
If Bettis and Pegram were Thunder and Lightning, are Warren and Gainwell Lightning and Lightning?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:38
Down south they say they're like white lightning -- smooth with a good strong finishing kick.

Hi Ray. The offense seems to be coming around though it takes time to get warmed up. Any chance Arthur Smith can start games with more intent and purpose? Come playoff time, based on the Steelers history of getting blown out, starting fast might be necessary.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:39
Every game is different. They started well against the Ravens. But I do get your point. There is going to come a game when the slow starts on offense will hurt them. It just hasn't happened the past two games because the defense has been playing so well.

Fellow Holy Cross grad here, Ray. (’77). How does a 6-year NFL veteran get pulled offsides by a clown in a blue wig?! Will Roman W get another chance with DK out? Go Crusaders!
Ray Fittipaldo
11:40
I think he's likely to dress but not sure how much he'll be involved. I think there is a reason he's been a healthy scratch. Go 'Saders.

Hi Ray,  How do the refs decide if a  'pick' play is legal or not ?  Is it the responsibility of the defender to always avoid the offensive player or only sometimes ?  Thanks for the chats and have a Merry Christmas.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:41
My interpretation of pick plays is the receiver who is picking has to make it look like he's running a route on the play and looking to get open, not to try to get in the way of a defender. I know it gets murky and not every official officiates that play the same way.

Ray, the best to you and your family this holiday season.  When do you start researching your mock draft or have you already begun?  Thank you.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:43
After the Steelers season ends.

Would the Steelers have a beef  had not OPI been called on that lateral TD at the end?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:43
Yes and the fact that St. Brown's forward progressed had been stopped. The officials missed several things on that final play that made it a debacle.

Greetings Ray; not a question, just a salute to Franco on the 53rd anniversary of the Immaculate Reception.

Any word when Semalu returns? Broderick out for the year or still a long shot to return if Steelers make a run? Thanks
Ray Fittipaldo
11:48
Tomlin will be speaking soon as his weekly news conference so we should get an update on some guys. As for Jones, I don't get the feeling he's coming back this year.

After the events of the past 48 hours, going into week 17, I think the most important question for Steelers fans: what is the status of the Packer injuries?  Who is going to play Saturday and who is not?  Same question regarding Lamar.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:50
Agreed. What if it's Malik Willis vs. Tyler Huntely?
Emzee
11:51
What happened to Payton Wilson? He seems to have disappeared.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:51
He's playing a lot on passing downs.

I haven’t checked the current playoff picture
but who would be the most likely Steelers opponent?  If all goes well…
