Didn't sound like a joke to me.

Fans seem to be taking the front office literally when they said Dobbs shouldn't be viewed as Ben's replacement. Seems pretty obvious that that's what they'd say. Otherwise you're putting a lot of pressure on him and making it uncomfortable for Ben when he won't be potentially replacing anyone for at least a few seasons. He's a good prospect you hope can develop into, best case scenario, the future QB. How hard is that to understand?

I'm confused by using a draft pick for a QB (esp. Jobbs) in this draft..he is compared to E.J Manual(?).....he's a smart person, but not apparently that smart at reading defenses..why use a pick this year on another backup ...
ray
12:44
Because they think they can develop him.
12:45
He's going to be the backup RB too. Colbert just said he's excited to watch him play special teams. All young guys make the roster initially because of their ability to play on the coverage teams.

To me a good pass rush covers a lot of coverage sins, so if Watt pans out, he's better than the CB talent available in the first round. Agree?
ray
12:46
Rush and coverage work together. That's what the coaches always say. But you still need someone to stay close to WRs when you face elite guys like Brady and Rodgers.

Who is your surprise being for not making the 53 man roster?
ray
12:46
Way too early for that type of speculation, but obviously it's a crowded group at WR.
Dave
12:46
Of the UDFA we signed, Ordoff is the only one ive ever heard of. Anyone from that group catch your eye as a potential practices squad guy?
ray
12:47
Not really. The DT Kallon is someone I can see making the practice squad.

Hi Ray! So the Steelers said they didn't take Dobbs to be a future replacement for Ben, if thats the case why not stay with defense or TE and wait until next year to grab a QB? Thank you
ray
12:48
I don't think the Cowboys were saying Prescott was Romo's replacement last year either. You don't come out and say those things. You let things play out. I'm not saying Dobbs is the future long-term starter, but we should give him time to develop.

Ray, I watched TJ Watt play for Wisconsin and have seen other footage, that's why I can't understand a number of media people stating that his pick was a reach. He can play immediately, giving JH a breather and learning on the job. Your thoughts, please.
ray
12:49
Yes I agree with you. I think he will help as a rookie. He has raw pass rush skills and he has a high motor. You won't have to worry about this guy taking plays off.

Why are we assuming Smith-Schuster is already better than Coates? just because he's their 2nd pick?
ray
12:51
He'll have to earn it, but he has traits that none of the current WRs have. He's known as a blocker, which Todd Haley specifically mentioned in terms of the running game. He's also known for his work ethic. I'm not saying Coates stopped trying last season, but they're clearly not happy with his development and the way he worked through those injuries. That's why Smith-Schuster is here, along with Bryant's tenuous situation.
Jared Thomas

Thanks for that in depth analysis Ray.... I'm excited about Brian Allen and if I'm correct, Artie Burns only started one year at corner in Miami right? Allen could make the roster. Thoughts?
ray
12:52
He's much more of a project. I can see him making the roster if he's a great special teams player. If not, he's a guy you can develop on the practice squad if you can sneak him through waivers.

12:53
Do you think the Steelers will average over 30 pts/game this season? They should score more than last year.....
ray
12:53
If Bryant and Brown plays 16 games they should challenge that 30 ppg threshold.

12:53
Any possibility that we keep DeAngelo for another year. Toussaint isn't the answer and when healthy DA is a great option.
ray
12:53
Not unless there is an injury.

what happens when a college player announces early for the NFL draft but doesn't get picked? Can he play again in college? Can he at least attend classes and continue degree work there?
ray
12:54
He cannot go back to college once he declares. I don't like that rule. That player should be able to go back to college.

12:55
Ray, do you think that the Steelers might have talked to AD Lynn Swan about Ju Ju's ability to play WR in the NFL? He might know a think or 2 about playing that position!!
ray
12:55
I am sure they did. They also had a relationship with Paul Chryst that helped with Watt.

12:55
I say Watt is the starter by week 10. Allows Harrison to just rush the passer and we get even moee athletic on D. Crazy or about right?
ray
12:56
Not a bad call. All depends on how he develops.

My dad always says you can never reach for a player that fits and a compensatory pick is a fancy name for the beginning of the next round. For those 2 reasons I love the Conner pick and where it happened. Or is the logic way wrong
ray
12:57
The middle rounds are the rounds where the Steelers have sometimes gambled on players with risks. They took Bryant in the fourth round. They took Dri Archer with a third-round compensatory pick. The Conner pick is safe. And that's OK. I think they've had their fill of players who are in the drug program.

Will/can Moats play more ILB? I thought that was his position primarily in Buffalo
ray
12:58
Maybe in an emergency. But he's been strictly an OLB since he got here.

12:58
Hi Ray, would you have preferred Kevin King from Washington at 30 over Watt? Thank you!
ray
12:59
King is a guy who might be a CB and might be a safety. If the Steelers didn't know how they would use him then I can see why he fell to the second round.

Do you think the JuJub pick is becuase the Steelers have no plans of re signing Martavis when his contract is up?
ray
12:59
That's probably true.

Anyone in this draft class going to contribute in the return game, punt or kickoff?
ray
12:59
Sutton was a punt returner at Tennessee. I think he had three TDs on punt returns.

What was the Worst trade of the draft in your opinion? I really didnt like the Chiefs more than the Bears just for the loss of the 2nd 1st Rder but obviously they had to go 15 picks not 1
