Hmmm. Where does he play in 2018? He'd be your fourth receiver. I suppose they could commit to a four-WR set and minimize the TEs. In theory, that would affect the running game because they've been so dependent on two TE sets in the past with Haley. I don't see that happening, but I suppose it's possible if the ILBs and safeties they want are gone.

Hi Ray.  Any chance the NFL could change the catch rule to control and two feet down (or any other body part if diving, etc.) is a catch?   If he bobbles it after that and in the field of play it is a fumble.  In the end zone, it is a TD because a fumble there is irrelevant.  Seems simple.

I just hope it's better than last year. That was a disaster. I don't see why the ground has to cause a pass to be incomplete. Honestly, I'd be fine if the ground caused neither a fumble or an incomplete pass. New thing: the play is dead if it comes loose after a catch is established. It's a catch but you can't advance if it comes loose. It seems pretty simple to me. Not sure why the league doesn't listen to me. They need some outside the box thinkers!

Which Safeties in the first round might be good fits in PGH?

I've seen Ronnie Harrison mocked to the Steelers at the end of round 1, but he's also a guy who is round 2 a lot. I think they are better off finding their ILB in round 1 and their safety in round 2 but that all depends on how the draft unfolds as you know.

Would Vander Esch play ILB in the Steelers scheme?

Yes he would.

If they go over the cap (on purpose) do they just pay a hefty fine ? Or you just can't do that ?

They can go over the cap now if need be. Just have to be in compliance by March 14.

Ray, what are the odds that the Steelers keep McDonald at his full salary? Other than inconsistent hands (admittedly a concern) he seems to be their dream TE.

Yeah I think they like him. The caveat, of course, are the injuries. He's had plenty of them.

Hi Ray, would Steelers consider selecting Vita Vea if he dropped somehow (projected top 20 pick) - even if Evans or Vander Esch were still available?

For the record, I don't think he'd fall to 28, but if he did, I'd take him. He's a potential franchise DT. Has Pro Bowl potential.
Thanks for all the questions this week. We'll do it again next week. Be on the lookout for my Steelers seven-round mock draft 2.0 later in the week.
