It's because there are only so many people in this country who can snap a football between their legs with the speed and accuracy needed to prevent punt blocks and blocked field goals. It's not as easy as it looks.

Do you think it is compassion or fear of being accused of not allowing a player to overcome emotional difficulties that keeps the team from drawing a line with Tuitt?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:43
I think the Steelers showed a lot of compassion last season by keeping Tuitt on IR and paying him his full salary all season. Believe me, not every team would have done that.

I still don't understand why they  would drafted 2 quarterbacks
Ray Fittipaldo
2:44
They needed a fourth arm for camp although many teams just sign a UDFA for that.

Good Afternoon Mr. Fittipaldo! Now that the draft is in the books and free agency is in the slog of the summer......Is there 'any' buzz surrounding players competing in the USFL?  Are there any rumblings about finding some depth on any of those rosters(thinking DL or RB)?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:45
Let me study the game film.

Any chance of adding a veteran wide receiver ?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:46
Let's see what happens in training camp first.

What position do you think the Steelers might add from another team's cuts?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:46
RB, OLB, OT.

So is the OC the biggest variable heading into the 2022 season ?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:47
I'd say that's pretty accurate. They brought in assistants he feels more comfortable with. He has a mobile QB. They used three of their first four picks on offensive players. No excuses this season.

Also (re: Kendrick Green), I've heard conflicting opinions on whether he could potentially be a Guard in the NFL.  In your opinion, if the C position doesn't pan out for him (which is looking like a distinct possibility), does he have any chance at developing into a starting OG?  Thanks for all the chats, as well!  Long time reader, first time chiming in.

In the right system. He's smaller so a power run game would not suit him well. Canada does a lot of stuff with his linemen being on the move and the guards can be successful if they're athletic enough to cut off DTs. We'll see how it goes, but his size did not suit him well at center. Let's see if he can overcome it at guard.

Hey Ray. Can you think of any players that had a major bounce back in performance two years removed from a major knee surgery that would give us hope for DB?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:50
I'm sure there are plenty of examples, but I don't have any off the top of my head. Doctors do say players are better with time.

Any news on Tuitt??
Ray Fittipaldo
2:51
None. Let's see if he shows up for OTAs next Tuesday.

What do you make out of our Frankenstein line and design not to improve the tackles - at all.  It seems like a huge misstep not to at least add veteran depth.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:52
Well, they have Haeg. He's OK with a short-term injury. If there is a long-term injury they might have to address the depth and get someone better.

Do you think Heyward and his variety of skills was chosen because of Canada’s offensive philosophy and style ?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:53
They like his skill set, but the only way he's going to be on the 53-man roster is if he excels on special teams.

Any reason we didn’t try to retain Corliass Waitman’s (sp) services at the end of last year?  It seemed like he had a monster leg and could compete with Harvin as the starter.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:54
I had the same question when I saw he was signed shortly after the season ended. I guess they want to give Harvin a chance without looking over his shoulder.

Hi Ray, what are the chances the Steelers will be selected again to play another game in the international series?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:55
Could happen next year when they have nine home games again. They are contractually obligated under the terms of their lease to play eight home games at Heinz Field every year. Or it could happen when the opponent is a team like the Jaguars, who don't care about their home games because they can't draw.

Ray, what would have to happen for the Steelers to no longer be the most popular team in town?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:55
10 losing seasons in a row.

Interesting article Re:  our new RB turned LB that was drafted in the fifth round.  Are you surprised we drafted him so high (versus 6/7) and could he be a passing down threat (Y1) to rush-rush-RUSH the passer?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:56
I believe you are referring to Robinson. He was drafted in the seventh round, and he needs time to hone his skills as a LB.

Why aren't there more practice squad signings during the season off other teams rosters? Is there a gentleman's agreement not to take each other's players?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:58
No, it happens. But when you sign someone off another team's practice squad that player has to go on the 53-man roster for three weeks. So maybe that's why it doesn't happen very often. You cannot sign a player off another practice squad and put him on your practice squad.
2:59
Ok thanks for all the questions this week. We'll do another chat next Tuesday.
