Again, check back after a few preseason games.

What's the status of Eli Rogers? Will he be back? After the punt fumble in Chicago last year, basically fell off the radar? Why? Ben compared him to HWard early on.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:19
Rogers is rehabbing an ACL tear. He's not ready to play now. Ben has always talked him up, but Rogers also has been in the doghouse a time or two. As long as the QB is in his corner I think the Steelers will value him, especially with the depth, or lack thereof, at the position now.

I have concerns about OLB and ILB depth.  Any rational person can see we lack quality depth.  One injury, especially at OLB and we are screwed.  Thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:20
You are right on both accounts. There is not a lot of depth at either LB spot. Anthony Chickillo might be a decent option if there is a short-term injury but not long term. They'd have to piece it together and hope someone can step in and have a career year if that happens.
Neil Young can Still bring it
12:20
Any update on Chris Boswell contract extension? He is superclutch, makes me want to retire my Roy Gerela jersey!
Ray Fittipaldo
12:21
Nothing as of yet. They can sign him anytime between now and the start of the season. He won't come cheap. Some average kicks are getting $4-5 million a year.

Do the Steelers have the worst set of inside linebackers in football?  How can the Steelers be ok with what they have at that position?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:22
Vince Williams is OK as long as he is used right. Jon Bostic might be a good find if he can stay healthy. He's just had a host of injuries throughout this career.

Hi Ray - is DeMarcus Ayers on a team now and if not, could he be a 4th WR option? He looked good in limited reps when he was here
Ray Fittipaldo
12:23
Ayers is not on the 90-an offseason roster. I think he is on the Bears roster now.

When is everyone going to realize this is a business?  I really hope we either tell Bell he needs to sign or release him.  Going in with the unknown is no way to run a business.  Bell is great, but no back (now a days) is worth this much of a headache.  He should be happy with the money.  Thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:24
They won't do that now. If they were tired of him they wouldn't have placed the franchise tag on him again. Once they did that you knew they wanted him back and didn't consider any of the noise he creates a major distraction. (I know many fans disagree).

Do the Steelers have any interest in Navorro Bowman or don't think he can help them at this point in his career?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:26
I think we'll find out in late August/early September how the Steelers really feel about their depth at ILB. I wouldn't expect an addition before training camp.

The Better Coach was Bill C not Tomlin. Bill had Ben a 3-4 year before retired. Neil and Kord... We will Find out how good the team when Ben Retires...
Ray Fittipaldo
12:27
And we'll find out how good of a coach Bill Belichick is without Brady, right? You can say that about a lot of coaches. How about Chuck Noll and Terry Bradshaw. Noll had a bunch of losing seasons after Bradshaw retired. Did he turn into a bad coach all of a sudden? Or is the position just that important? I tend to think it's the latter.

12:28
How about a trade with Eagles for ILB Kendricks or jump after the cuts, if he is released?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:29
The Steelers haven't been shy about making trades, or signing players, during camp the past few years. I think they'll consider it again if it makes the team better. But I'm just not sure where Kendricks fits unless they come to the conclusion that Williams or Bostic simply is better suited to be a reserve and not a starter.

12:29
With our ILB situation, would they consider moving the struggling Dupree inside to see if he can fair better there?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:30
Sorry, but I can't envision Dupree as an ILB. Just not that type of ahtlete or the demeanor to play the position.

I think Bell understands this is a business. The fans who want him to shut up and take less money than he thinks he deserve do not.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:30
You are right. Fans get caught up in the emotions of the game. For all players, it's a business. Just as it is for the owners.

If Rudolph turns out to be a decent QB, it would be a great value for picks we used from Bryant and Cockrell trades, right?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
Yes. And if he turns into a franchise QB it'll be one of the greatest trades in team history.
Ryno
12:33
Do you see any chance they keep four QBs this season if they decide Dobbs looks better than Rudolph?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
No. They might try to stash Dobbs on the practice squad though.
Go Steelers
12:34
Any chance the Steelers trade Bell after he signs the tag, if Conner or Samuels show they can produce behind our offensive line?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:35
I never say never, but not sure what kind of value they can get for a well-used RB playing on a one-year deal? I mean, at this point, all teams really have to do it wait and sign him when he becomes a free agent 10 months from now.
12:37
Thanks for all the questions today. No chat next Monday because it's Memorial Day and no chat Monday June 4 because I'm on vacation. My next chat will be Monday June 11.
