Ray Fittipaldo's Steelers chat: 9.24.18

Ray Fittipaldo

Why? They'd be in the exact same circumstances as now.

Your thoughts on the Steelers chance of winning tonight?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:16
They know they need to win to have a realistic chance at the playoffs. I expect their best effort. I also know their pass defense stinks and they'll be playing without three starters. That makes it more difficult. I do think it'll be a close game.

Browns tie Steelers, Bills manhandle the Vikings, Lions dominate the Pats, Titans handle the Jags...talk about any given Sunday....is the AFC wide open or will the Dolphins and Ravens run away with the conference? (LOL)
Ray Fittipaldo
12:18
Come on. You know the Patriots will rattle off 10 wins in a row once Julian Edelman returns from his drug suspension. The Patriots will be there in the end. So will the Jags. The Steelers? Not so sure about that. Check with me about midnight. I'll let you know.

Whose most to blame for the defensive woes? Players, Butler, Tomlin, Colbert?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:18
All of the above, but Tomlin is the only one directly involved in all aspects of the team's performance -- from helping pick the players to developing and coaching them. So of the three, I'd say Tomlin.

Does Gilbert play tonight?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:19
He said he was getting better when I talked to him Saturday, but I don't think they'll chance it. He didn't practice all week. Tomlin almost never plays guys who don't practice.

if an nfc team offered a 2nd round pick for bell, the steelers would take it in a heartbeat, right?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:19
I probably would.

Ray, 1st and 10 on KCs last possession and the Steelers are playing 3 DLs and 90 and 48. Even though KC wants to kill the clock and they have 3 people in the backfield, 48 reads pass and does one of his patented orbital push rushes. KC runs through the hole he creates and gains 9. I m I being overly critical or did he blow it?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:21
I'll go back and watch the play after the chat. If he read pass and not run there then he has absolutely zero football sense. Everyone in the stadium knew they were going to run.

Do you expect both teams to put up at least thirty points tonite, weather permitting? Is the NFL turning into the NBA?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:21
My prediction: First team to 31 wins tonight.
Rob
12:21
Which team is more of a concern at this point the Steelers or the Patriots?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:21
Steelers.

Wonder if there’s a changing of the guard coming. Steelers, Patriots, Packers and SEahawks going backwards with teams like Eagles, Jaguars and Chiefs taking the spotlight.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:22
The Eagles barely beat the Colts at home yesterday. The Jags lost and let's hold off on crowning the Chiefs. It's Week 3.

Live from Tampa! With Burnett injured,  I assume Edmonds starts tonight? Thanks ☀️
Ray Fittipaldo
12:23
Correct. And Nat Berhe plays for Burnett in the sub-packages.

holding on to bell and making an example out of him by not letting him touch the field makes sense to me. If I am not mistaken the steelers will likely get a 3rd round pick when he signs somewhere else if they hold on to him. Is that true?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:23
Yes third-round compensatory pick in 2020.

12:23
I’m sure you’ll be bombarded with trade questions but wouldn’t Oakland be a viable option.  Have money and extra picks left from trading Mack.  What are your thoughts on that?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:24
The Raiders are 0-3 and likely won't be in the hunt for a playoff berth. Why would they want a rental?
jackprosciutto59
12:24
What your prediction for tonight? I am thinking 28-24 Steelers.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:24
Steelers 31, Bucs 30.
jimmyo
12:24
Did the Steelers ever sign another punter after the tryout last week?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:24
No. Jordan Berry will punt again tonight.
Bye, bye Mr LeVeon guy
12:25
Any concern about the Steelers right side Offensive line?  And, Do you think the Steelers can dominate the line when on defense?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:25
The Steelers haven't dominated anything on defense to this point. And yes there is some concern about Feiler at right tackle because this will be his first start there.
Mounty
12:26
Leveon Bell at this point is toxic.  No Steeler fan wants to see him  play again in a Steeler uniform. If he decides to come back,  can the front office say  "NO".  or would he then immediately  become a free agent
Ray Fittipaldo
12:26
The Steelers coiuld choose to sit him when he returns. That would be their prerogative.
RealSteel
12:26
What does Tampa have defensively across from our backup linemen at right guard & tackle? Should we expect major problems on that side or are the Bucs just average over there where they can handle it well?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:27
They have a couple of injured DL who won't play. But they still have Gerald McCoy, and he's pretty darn good.
AT
12:27
Can the Steelers still get the two week waiver after week 10? That would ensure that the steelers only pay him for weeks 13-17.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:27
Yes they could. But if Bell is smart. He reports in Week 8.
Joel F
12:27
Can the Steelers request a drug test at any time?  What are the implications if he fails?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:28
Bell may be subject to a drug test upon signing his franchise tender. The league in the NFL drug policy makes it unclear if the NFL would ask for the test or if the Steelers could ask for it. But he would be subject to one upon signing. If he failed he'd be suspended and the Steelers would not have to pay him during his suspension.

What do you want/need to see from the defense tonight that will give fans any hope this team will be competitive at year's end?  Thank you
