How many regions are left this year?
Benjamin Edwards
4:19
Hi Karen. There are 11 contests left this season
None next week however
Andrea M.

Are the scores higher for qt this yr? Seems high to me.
Benjamin Edwards
4:20
They've been higher both this year and last. Many, many records have been broken over the last 12 weekends or so.
Paula
4:20
The percentage of baritones in this chat group must be high!
Benjamin Edwards
4:20
Definitely, Paula. :)
Anthony
4:20
What are your thoughts on these records being broken?
Benjamin Edwards
4:21
It's very interesting to a stats guy like me.
Bobbi
4:21
Are you a barbershopper?
Benjamin Edwards
4:21
No, Bobbi. But if you have any men's barbershop questions, I'm sure Anthony can answer them ;)
Kimmy
4:22
Who will win in Vegas?
Benjamin Edwards
4:23
Kimmy, Quartet or Chorus?
Kimmy
4:23
Both ;)
Benjamin Edwards
4:24
This is an interesting year. I think it's a toss up for Chorus. Ronninge and Rich-Tones could easily win. It's 50/50 there.
I would give the slightest edge to the Swedes.
4:25
For Quartet, it's anyone's game. Frenzy and Finesse and Lustre are obvious choices, but you cannot discount some of the new younger groups. GQ breaking records, Windsor scoring through the roof last year. HEAT is always in the mix.
Anthony
4:26
Would their record-breaking previous winning score account for some of that edge?
Benjamin Edwards
4:26
Anthony, certainly. Along with the regional scores they've been posting.
4:27
And the slightly lower Rich-Tone score from last year that qualified them for Vegas II
Although, it seems a little ridiculous to think of 726 as low.

Will a 610 qt score win WC?
Benjamin Edwards
4:29
That's a great question Diane. a couple of years ago, certainly. That lowest wild card spot was hovering around 601-603.
Last year the lowest was 612.
4:30
This year it;s at 599 with just over half the regions finished.
I would guess it will be around 607-610
4:31
So, there's certainly a chance that 610 would make it.
Joan
4:32
How many wcs are their?
Benjamin Edwards
4:32
There are 10 wild cards for both quartet and chorus.
4:33
Quartet wild cards can be any placement (2-whatever), but only 2nd place choruses can earn wild cards.

4:33
Has a small chorus made it as a wildcard before? Is this common?
Benjamin Edwards
4:34
Small choruses are rare in the big contest.
But Stockholm City Voices made the top ten a few years back with just 39 onstage
Here's a great article to read about chorus size in relation to chorus success.
4:35
I'd have to look to see how many small choruses have made it.
Melaniebaldwin
4:35
If qualified can a chorus go as a wildcard and a Harmony Classic competitor?
Benjamin Edwards
4:36
No, once the regional contests are over, HQ will send out invitations to choruses and, if they qualify for both, they will have to choose a contest.
Tom
4:36
Who do you think is a dark horse for queens this year? My thinking is HEAT, because they haven't had their big jump in score yet or CLass RIng cause they sounded really good when they were on national tv last week. Windsor is just so stinking cute and are singing well.
Benjamin Edwards
4:38
It's interesting this year, Tom. I think the contest can be divided into 3 categories.
