Hello everyone! Welcome to our very first Reach for Excellence Webchat! Ask us anything! This is your chance to ask us any questions you have about RfE, university, and anything else you want to know, as well as learning from the answers to other people’s questions too. If the chat is busy then we’ll be typing at breakneck speed to respond to you all, so please be patient if we take a while to get on to your question.

how can we help?
Laiba

Will RFE interfere with other schemes I am part of?
AvatarJames Leslie
4:10
Hi @Laiba - I wouldn't have thought so! It really is up to individual students how many schemes they take part in but we think RfE is unique in the sense that you can tailor the scheme to you and attend as much or as a little as you want to do so. Are you doing many others?
Dan
4:09
Will next week be like Induction Day? Like do we get fed and our travel expenses again? I am assuming the sessions will be smaller :)

Great question Dan! If you are coming to an event in the morning and one in the afternoon of the same day you will get a free lunch! You'll also get a free lunch if you are attending a full day event. Yes, you'll also get your travel expenses reimbursed as long as you travel to our events by public transport (train or bus), make sure you keep hold of your bus or train tickets as we will need to see them.

You'll find that most of our events during February half term have smaller numbers of students in them than on Induction day. This is more realistic of what a seminar is like at university.

I have a question:I applied for one of the events for Freshers week on the day the form came out and I was placed on the reserve list.I wondered how I can attend 3 events this year if I can't even get into one even when signing up for it as soon as possible?
AvatarMeghan Clamp
4:11
Hi Lacey, some of our sessions were just so popular I'm afraid and we only ever implement reserve lists when we have more bookings than space in the room the session is running in. We'll be sure to be in touch if we receive any cancellations between now and the event. We run another 20-30 events at Easter, another set at Spring Bank and then another set in October half term,so you will have plenty to choose from to meet the 3 :)

does the university of leeds prioritise higher gcse
AvatarJennifer Mchale
4:10
It depends what course you are thinking of applying to.  Some courses do take GCSEs grades into account when looking at applications such as medicine and dentistry.
hafiza
4:11
like medicine ?
AvatarJennifer Mchale
4:12
The entry requirements for Medicine at GCSE do require a good number of grades as shown on the course page here  https://courses.leeds.ac.uk/5580/medicine-and-surgery-mbchb#entry
Laiba
4:11
I've applied for 2 other schemes but I think it may be too much to keep up with all 3 so i'm prioritising RFE and RO
AvatarJames Leslie
4:12
Not that I am biased or anything but after 18 years we know what we are doing :p
hafiza

so my question is does the university of leeds prioritise high gcse grades for competitive courses like medicine and dentistry?
a levels more or is it balanced
