Follow up on the Junior Perez question... it's not about protecting him from the Rule 5 draft. He's a Milb free agent at the end of the season.

Ohhh, my bad! Different situation since he'd have his MiLB options but still need to consider 40-man roster crunch. They have a full 40-man now and 6 players on the 60-Day IL. And only 2 free agents. So they have to clear four 40-man spots right off the bat. That should be pretty easy to do. But clearing a few more so they can add new players or keeping a potential MiLB Free Agent from leaving will be another challenge. The A's will have to let us know within 5 days of the World Series ending.

Late to chat so you may have touched on this. Any concern with injuries riddling the Brewers bullpen? Or is the feeling they will be back by postseason (except Miller)? Or the Brewers can simply do what they've done and go next man up from their pool of prospects?

I'm not 0% concerned but I think they'll be fine, Megill was just throwing a bullpen session so I don't think he's too far off. And there's a non-zero chance that Misiorowski ends up a big weapon out of the bullpen in October.

Pirates going to have someone better than Tommy Pham/Alexander Canario to play left field in 2026?

Will be difficult to find someone better than Tommy Pham. At least the post-April version. He's slashed .300/.374/.457 in 278 PAs. I see Pirates fans discussing whether they should bring him back and I guarantee that Tommy Pham, even at age-38 in 2026, thinks he deserves more than what the Pirates are willing to offer. But that doesn't mean he'll get better offers. See David Peralta's numbers in 2024. One of the best hitters in baseball for a 2-month period and no viable offers in 2025.

My guess is that they'll do whatever they can to address the offense via trade. And if the owner somehow is on board (doubtful), maybe they'd look to add an impact hitter in free agency.

Will the Brewers trade their closer for the third year in a row and hand the reins to Uribe and/or Yoho?

I lean no, since they traded Hader in his second-to-last trade deadline before FA, and Williams with just a year left before FA. So trading two full years of Megill would be aggressive even for them. But at the same time, you can never fully discount anything with the Brewers.

Are any of the top pitching prospects from the draft going to be making their minor leage debut this season?

Liam Doyle (STL) tomorrow. I think Cruz Schoolcraft (SDP) is going to pitch for Lake Elsinore before their season ends.

Barring yesterday, Cortes has been getting blistered the first time through the lineup and dominate the next couple times. How do you fix this? Is it just reacquainting or can you simulate the start of the game more realistically in warmups?

Not a lot of room for error so he can't really afford to feel his way through starts until he locks in. He was getting rocked yesterday so he didn't even have a chance to settle in. As is the case with Darvish, he's coming back from an elbow injury so the command is not quite there and I'm not sure it will be consistently. Musgrove pitching thru his elbow injury last season was amazing because he was getting better and better until it finally tore. I think it's more common for pitchers who are dealing with some discomfort to battle with command from start to start. I'm not very hopeful.

That will do it for today. Thanks everyone! Have a great rest of the week.
