Good Monday, chatters! I have a hard "out" at 1pm, so gonna keep the intro short. Recognize most of the names in the queue so you all know the drill. Let's go!
Rick
12:04
Thanks for these chats Brent. In Dynasty for next year and beyond, would you rather have Rodgers or Gorman as your 2nd baseman? Seems like Gorman will continue to be a low average hitter with pop, but I'm wondering if Rodgers can take it up a notch from what he's done overall this year.
Brent Hershey
12:04
At this point, Gorman for power impact. Rodgers has had a nice year, and especially on the batted ball metrics side (barrels, exit velo). But think the upside for huge HR in Gorman edges him for me.

Who has the better and more exciting career...Jeremy. Pena or CJ Abrams? I can only hold onto one of them for my keeper league.
Brent Hershey
12:06
Abrams, pretty easily. Again, just bigger impact potential when you figure in all the categories, as well as age to level, etc. The fact that he's shown some life here this month (much better contact; .296 BA)  since coming back helps. Could be big gainer as soon as next season.

Brent, thank you! For next year 4x4 AL keeper league:Germano or Bello,J Hernandez or J Jimenez, are G.Valera and Dustin Harris  stars in the future or platoon guys? Appreciate all you do for us ROTO heads!
Brent Hershey
12:08
Bello; Hernandez; Valera more upside than Harris but both more likely in the solid regulars category rather than stars at this point. Good luck!

Hi! Thanks again for these! For ROS and next year: thoughts on Villar? Is Groshans a guy who will play regularly? are the Braves done with Ozuna? - he was playing, then not playing and Grossman seems to be their choice —- Finally, your thoughts on Toglia -
Brent Hershey
12:12
Villar - interested, but SF's platoon-happy setup gives me pause. Not sure I see enough there for him to break through that.
Groshans - this is a hot start. I have questions on whether the power shows up long-term given MiLB track record and seeing him myself. I do think it's feasible that he has a real shot at breaking the OD lineup for them next season.
Ozuna - yes, seems like the Braves are done w/ him. Though they are NOT done paying him, that's for sure.
Toglia - interested in starting him in weeks like this (all-Coors); but given COL's track record with rooks, dunno about him long-term. The ability to play both OF and 1B helps. Will need to see what COL brings in over the winter before hooking my wagon to him for 2023.

Hi Brent, for saves only, which two guys would you choose this week: Holmes, Dominguez, Hughes, Barnes or Schreiber?  Or do I start Holmes only and go with a 1 RP lineup?
Brent Hershey
12:15
Yeah Holmes for sure; probably Hughes next, then Schreiber (similar in my eyes). Seranthony COULD recover quickly ... but Robertson there; surprised they haven't bumped Alvarado up in the pecking order ... with 2+ weeks left, Domínguez's saves prospects are dwindling, it seems.

Good morning, Brent, Your thoughts on the MLB schedule next season (every team playing every other). Seems to me that this is the last step in a long-term plan to eliminate the separate leagues and create a new structure under the brand MLB, with geographical divisions (a la the NFL). I think this may have been Bud Selig's plan and it's nearly accomplished. Your thoughts, please? (and thanks for a great season'r worth of insights, info, and all the rest!)
Brent Hershey
12:19
Hmmm ... I don't really go quite that far; I think there's enough history there (AL/NL) that they will keep it to some extent. I tend to think the changes will be good for the game ... every fan base gets to see very team once, AND it "evens out" the opponents each team are facing (IE, someone like STL will not have so much of PIT/CIN/CHC on their ledger in 2023). It is change, though, and the fact there are less H2H division games when fighting for those titles means we are losing something. But for me the pluses outweigh the minuses.

Chapioship week (h2h). Do I want to start Jose Suarez for two, or go with the suddenly relevant Drew Smyly mid-week?
Brent Hershey
12:19
I'd roll w/ Suárez; seems like the change has been real and I'd try to capitalize. Good luck!

Thinking about 2023 in a NL, 5x5 league.  Does Tylor Megill have the stuff to be a legitimate #3 SP?
Brent Hershey
12:21
Stuff, yes .. durability ... TBD. And this year did not necessarily moving the needle positively. Will be interesting to see how the Mets play it, in terms of how they restock their rotation.
Porcho Villa
12:23
Struggling between Jose Suarez and Tyler Wells as a pure volume streamer in H2H playoffs (5x5 QS). Ratios are likely to be close so I am leaning Wells as the lower risk option (vs. DET) even though he may be innings limited. Reasonable, or would you roll the dice on Suarez on the outside chance at a QS / likelihood of higher Ks?
Brent Hershey
12:23
With QS, I think you have to lean Suárez. I'd say no chance of 6 IP vs. DET for Wells, and then the 2d start is HOU? With how well Suárez is pitching right now, I think you take that shot.

12:26
Big week this week for the playoffs and have some lineup challenges. H2H points league, RBI, SB, and R are all valued the same points for hitters. SP it's about W's, IP, and K's. Negative points for BB, ER, and L

SP - Verlander (1 start) or Lodolo (2 starts)
DH - Andrus or Grichuk or McCarthy
3B - Bohm or Brian Anderson

Please note I can flex Bohm or Anderson as DH if they are better plays than one of Andrus, Grichuk, McCarthy

Thank you so much!
Brent Hershey
12:26
SP - Can't sit Verlander; Lodolo has looked great, but still a rook. JV's track record wins.
DH - Ride McCarthy, even w/ that formidable LA rotation. Guy has been on fire, has tons of games, and lots of ways to gain you points.
3B - Bohm. Phils in the race and he'll be in there every day for sure; home all week. Again, good luck!

I would be interested in your thoughts on a couple of minor league shortstops.  COL Ezekiel Tovar and KC Maikel Garcia.  Would either be worth a stash?
Brent Hershey
12:29
Tovar more than Garcia at this point; my sense is that ET will end up  more likely being fantasy relevant. Like Toglia Q above; you always have to deal with weird COL rookie management issues -- but perhaps those decision makers will change soon. Garcia not a bad play, but right now he seems to have less of a natural opening than ET on the roster.

Do you think Floro could be a good source of saves ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:30
Seems to be the current fave in MIA, if that's what you're asking. How many chances he gets ROS is an important question to consider, though.
Ron
12:31
Hi Brent, resending my question re choice of two closers. Pick two for saves only: Holmes, Floro, Dominguez, Hughes, Barnes or Schreiber.
Brent Hershey
12:31
Adding Floro doesn't change things for me; still prep Hughes/Schreiber as #2

12:34
Hey Bret, How do you think rule changes might effect drafting next season? Looks like speed will become more important? Wondering if some pitchers (looking at you Chris Bassitt) will have trouble adjusting to the clock. Your thoughts? Thanks for a great season, Breet. Looking forward to the 2023 Forecaster.
Brent Hershey
12:34
We'll def be digging into that issue some in the book and the site (as well as First Pitch Arizona Nov 3-6, which you all should consider attending, ha!). Maybe there's more SB; the no-shift rule should affect some hitters. I wouldn't drastically change my draft strategy based on this, but use these things as a possible tie-breaker between players in certain situations. Esp w SB, it will still come down to MLB teams adjusting (giving the green light more, etc). Important questions to consider, though.
Ron
12:36
Hi Brent, in a points league scoring HR (6 pts) and RBI/SB (3 pts), who would start at SS (Baez/Gordon), 2B (Drury/Grissom) and DH (Santana, any of the others listed)
Brent Hershey
12:36
SS - I'd ride Báez's hot streak
2B - Probably Drury
DH - Grissom, b/c I think he's locked back into 2B PT and has an awesome surrounding lineup cast

12:37
Hi Brent.  Head to head weekly points league.  Brady Singer, Marcus Stroman, or Zac Gallen this week?  Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:37
Love me some Gallen, but our numbers say Singer this week (that Gallen v LAD is a tough one).

12:41
NL-only weekly homestretch - I need Ks, Qs and ratios. Please rank- Odorizzi, Falter, Corbin? And can I trust Farmer or Ginkel for Ks and not kill my ratios? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:41
Falter / Odorizzi / Corbin for me, though the last two are close.
Guess it depends on your other options. If it's between those two ... I guess Ginkel? Walks slightly fewer than Farmer.

Facing a roster crunch with some impending IL activations. Who would you prioritize getting back on the roster vs. wait and see (context is 5x5 one week playoff round): Bednar, Wheeler, Bader
Brent Hershey
12:45
This REALLY depends on what the rest of your roster looks like (and NO, please don't post that here, lol). Seems that Wheeler is priority #1; Bendar PROBABLY jumps back into saves spot BUT still has a rehab outing tonight ... which I'd probably wait for if you have this roster crunch. Basically, one more outing for something to go wrong, etc. Bader OTOH is ready to go, has hit in rehab and I guess the Yanks throw him into fulltime play, given what they gave up and what he brings, esp on defense? But could see waiting a week there, too.
So Bader priority #2; Bendar #3

10 team daily points league w/ 4 keepers: I have Cole, Alcantara, Strider, Soroka & Glasnow.  Which would you keep?  Which two hitters to keep along with Ohtani?  Harper, Betts, K. Tucker & M. Harris...
Brent Hershey
12:47
So, 3 more plus Ohtani is how I read this. And I would go Strider, Harper, Betts. And those cuts HURT, lol. But such is the 10-team life! Good luck!
Brent Hershey
12:48
First time all year I've cleared the queue ... can hang on for a few more if ya got 'em; otherwise might close up shop a bit early ...
