For the last time (sniff) in 2024 season: Greetings, Monday chatters! Thanks so much for showing up, dropping questions, and making my Monday noon a fun time each week during the season. We’ll try to do a few more scattered throughout the winter; so keep eyes out for that, and then pick em up regularly again after the New Year.
12:02
As for today ... anything can happen in this last week of course, so keep that in mind. But we'll do what we can with the info we got. Deal? Onward ...

Fighting for a podium finish in a dynasty roto league. You have been instrumental in my success this season. Thank you!  If you want an idea how helpful your chat (please add another day) has been I’m in third despite starting my season with these players: Strider, Josh Jung, CJ Abrams, Lodolo, Nolan Jones (finally had the courage to drop him), Casas, Tork (finally dropped him too), Harris, N Marte and Jordan Walker. No question here…. Just a thank you. What a crazy season this has been.

Love these posts of course; glad that I could be of help. Grinding throughout the season and all its twists and turns is the fun of all this. Thanks, Michael ... we'll see you next year (and are still considering adding more chats when we get there). Thanks!

Brent, thanks again for all of these chats!  H2H points championship. Trying to maximize at bats amidst teams clinching and giving guys days off:     Bregman or Royce Lewis (lean Breg but MIN in dogfight to final day?); Neto or 6-games-in-Coors B. Rodgers; 2 of Tucker, Chourio, L. Butler, Suzuki?    Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:07
Bregman -- the Lewis slump steers me away
Neto -- clearly the better player at this point
And give me Tucker and Butler. Suzuki a clear 4th; could sub in Chourio for Butler if you'd like. But I get the sense that Butler will be in there every day, doing everything he can to pad the statline. And I think Tucker will be nearly every-day, too, making sure his timing is ready for the playoffs. Good choices to have

Thank you So Much for doing this all year! Chance to place in money. Need HR, W and Saves……At 1B, Horowitz or Aranda? Week ahead suggests Toronto, Aranda has more power and is hot. For pitching - lots of options - who to bench, pick one:: Kitteridge, Cade Smith or Kahnle. Start Basso and Herz over Greene and Detmers? Replace Basso Herz with the reliever not chosen above and/ or Kerkering in quest for saves if those Sps have low chance for win? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:15
Of course; good to see you again!
1B - Think I would go Horwitz; has surprised with power and a bit longer track record. But it's close
P - Gonna take these one by one ...
-first, I think you need one of these three? I'd go Kahnle (best option for a win or save). If it's the other way (you're asking which one player to bench, then it would be Kitteridge
-Yes, likely Basso/Herz over that other duo
-I'd prefer Kerkering over Basso (?) and likely on the Kahnle level in the quest for a W or Save.
Hope that gets close to helping you

12 Team AL only 5X5 keeper - This offseason would you keep, trade or cut the following pitchers:  Kumar Rocker $6, Bowden Francis $3, Ben Lively $4 and Zebby Matthews $6
Brent Hershey
12:17
Always trade if you can get something useful back. My pref on keeping at those prices:
  1. Francis (easy call)
  2. Rocker
  3. Matthews
  4. Lively (this is one I would likely cut if I couldn't trade). The other three all seem keeper-worthy to me.

Brent, just a note to say thank you. You were a  great help this year and also for my prep for 2025. Hope you enjoy the playoffs and have a safe and great holiday season. Look forward to 2025.
Brent Hershey
12:19
Thank you; and backatcha. I WISH I could enjoy the playoffs more, but we're in full Baseball Forecaster mode come October. But we'll sneak some in where we can. Thanks for the note!

Do you think Robbie Ray will get a start this week?
Brent Hershey
12:19
Seems unlikely to me.

What are your thoughts on Jonthan Aranda? Has his hot September made him a sneaky 2b keeper in deep 5-game eligible leagues?
Brent Hershey
12:21
It's possible I guess ... but it's also the Rays, so it's difficult to count on consistent playing time if you're name is no Caminero. So much will depend on what the MLB offseaon looks like for TAM.

NL only, need every single K I can get (with massive leads in all other pitching categories so I can absorb bad ERA, whip).  Free agents to choose from:  McGreevy, Feltner, Falter for ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:23
Feltner, it seems (while trying to repeat to myself that ERA/WHIP doesn't matter :-) )

12:26
Thanks for the year, Brent. In tight AL-only 5x5 league race and need some strikeouts in the last week. Which 1 would you recommend to add this week among Oak's Spence (2 starts), LAA's Kochanovicz (2 starts) and Clev's Castillo (1 start)? Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:26
Though the two-starters are tempting b/c of volume, our numbers love Cantillo (Ks especially) vs CIN. He's clearly the highest-skilled of the three; I'd choose Joey I think.
Johnny Dickshot
12:27
How likely is it that Gerrit Cole starts this week v Pittsburgh?
Brent Hershey
12:27
I think it's likely, because they want to have him tuned up for the playoffs. Is it a deep one that could get you a win? That's more doubtful. But I don't think they'll just skip him this week.
Johnny Dickshot
12:27
Rank these closers for saves this week - C Martin, Ty Holton, L Weaver, Jesus Tinoco
Brent Hershey
12:27
Weaver, Tinoco, Martin, Holton
Johnny Dickshot
12:29
bibee or francis this week?
Brent Hershey
12:29
Francis; just has had a better run of consistency here in the 2H. Both though have solidly-rated matchups by our tool
Johnny Dickshot
12:30
Bibee or Cantillo this week?
Brent Hershey
12:30
Bibee; due to better long-term track record.

Do you think Jake McCarthy is good enough to be AZ starting outfielder next year?
Brent Hershey
12:32
Yes, I think he's put himself into that conversation. Potential off-season moves by ARI, though, could color the situation - seems they love Alek Thomas' defense, for instance, so if he's in that picture, McCarthy's spot is a bit more tenuous.

NL only keeper, expanding from 11 to 12 teams, can protect 1 or 2 of the following: Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone, Landon Knack, Jeremiah Estrada. Who would you protect?
Brent Hershey
12:34
Miller and Stone. Both have higher ceilings than Knack; being on the Dodgers just gives some built-in upside. Estrada has been great, but my hunch is that SP>RP in this case.

Two parts....1)Pick 2 A Burleson, J Walker, Pham, Conforto, P Smith, Benitendi, Yaz, Laureano  2) Pick one J deGrom, J Estes, C Sanchez, G Kirby     Thanks for all your help tis year!
Brent Hershey
12:36
[assuming this is for this week, not next year/keeper]
1) Burleson and Pavin Smith
2) Sanchez, esp if you need wins

12:37
To you think Amaya has shown  enough to be Cubs #1 catcher next year and is he capable of being a top 15 catcher?
Brent Hershey
12:37
Yes and yes, though not sure he will reach that Top-15 status in 2025. Think how the Cubs stuck with him this year says volumes about how much they believe in him.
Brian K
12:37
No question today, just wanted to say thank you for hosting this weekly chat and look forward to next year.

Of course; thanks, Brian K, for joining!

How would you rank Nolan Jones, Adell, Soler,  Mullins,Jake McCarthy, and Jesus Sanchez in a dynasty league. Anyone stand out at all either positively or negatively?
Brent Hershey
12:45
Jones / McCarthy / Sanchez / Mullins / Soler / Adell

I still believe in Jones' ceiling, especially in that park. Want to see him come into camp healthy and kinda re-start from there. If you're more risk-averse, McCarthy may be the better choice -- but again like mentioned above, he still could get squeezed in ARI. Others kinda are what they are to me ... Soler older but great power when healthy; Adell can be helpful in HR/SB but BA will always be a drain, still questions about Sanchez v LHP, etc etc. Feel like those first two are where the biggest possibilities and upside are.
