Brett- thanks to you and HQ, in the last month I went from 6th to 2nd with an outside shot at 1st (very outside). Last bit of FAAB to go. I am looking to get the Coors effect - only Stallings and Hilliard are available - are they worth $1 each (I would waive Higashioka for Stallings and a much too expensive to keep Chapparo (no one can claim our waived guys).
L Baker, C Taylor and H Feduccia are all available for Colorado starts. Non-Colorado guys of interest are Billy Cook and D Baker - every one of these will come with a $10 salary so I don’t think they are keepers — but L Baker might surprise with his power.

Pitching, I am looking at grabbing McGreevy for $1 for 2025 and E Philips for 1 or 2 just in case he’s the LA closer. Mason Black is also available for FAAB bids - I have $6 left.
Any thoughts/advice would be most appreciated!

Great to hear, Beano!
Yes, I think those two COL as $1 adds (with the drop mentioned) make sense. Less convinced of the next trio ... I guess L Baker if you had to (for the reasons you state)
Snagging Phillips (my pref of the two) and McGreevy for $1 in 2026 also seem like decent flyers. Always good to have more choices like these at cutdown time ... again, so much can happen between now and then. But give yourself some options.

Brent, first a big Thank You!! for these chats.  They have been hugely helpful.  I'm in a 16 Team Mixed 5x5 (HIP, K-BB, W, ERA, and S).  Can you rank the following big leaguers based on your seat of the pants 2025 expectations:  Baz, H Brown, Senga, Pepiot, D. Festa, B. Miller, Eury P, Dus. May, and Lodolo.  Also, these minor leaguers based on long term keeper value:  Painter, Cavalli, Dana,  Thanks again.

MLBers: H Brown / Baz / Senga / Lodolo / Pepiot / B Miller / Festa / May / Eury
Prospects: Painter <big gap>  Dana / Cavailli

Weaver of Yankees has been lights out as closer. The switch from starting pitcher to bullpen was a success. Do you see this SP to Closer role an outlier or maybe the start of something?
Brent Hershey

Closers very often come from starting ranks (were failed starters), but what makes this one unique is Weaver was not a hard-thrower who couldn't find the plate (think Kopech as one example). He had a significant velo increase. My sense is this sort of conversion is an outlier. Will be super intersting to see how/if it works in the playoffs, and how/if NYY treat the closer role in the offseason. Far from etched in stone that Weaver is the Opening Day closer in 2025, for instance.

4x4 league-15 teams, $260 auction day budget for 24 players.  option to keep a dozen. Ohtani was $55 this year. Since he will pitch next year the inclination is that he is worth more in 2025. However, as a pitcher he will ( if healthy, maybe havre 25-30 starts. I don’t see him stealing much in those games, and it’s his legs that will need to be fresh when he does pitch. He can’t replicate 2024 results can he?
Brent Hershey

Would agree, he can't replicate 2024 in the same way. But that dual-option should also keep him valuable, depending on your league rules.

Brent, another H2H points championship question- how would you rank Woo (OAK) and tenuous 2-starters T. Myers (PIT, NYM), and C. Schmidt (BAL, PIT)?  Also, thoughts on whether SEA might bring back Gilbert on short rest on Sunday if playoffs are still possible?  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:59
I'd go Woo. And yes, I guess that Gilbert situation is a possibility, but it's a very specific set of circumstances that would even lead them to that decision. Don't think WE should make our roster decisions for the week based on that, IOW.

Hi Brent. Fighting to survive this last week.  Need stats in all offensive cats except OBP.  Would you trust Nolan Jones with a full week in Col over Bader and/or Yaz?
Brent Hershey

Think I'd rather have Bader; then Jones; then Yaz

Last FAAB dart throw today. NL keeper league, 12 teams. Is there a world where Grant Holmes is Atlanta's 5th starter next year? Fried and Morton leave, and AJSS cuts more teeth in relief role. The metrics on Holmes are somewhat interesting, no?
Brent Hershey

Yes they are, and I think that's very much a possibility ... or at the very least, he's in the conversation/job fight in spring training.

It was a disappointing season for me but thanks to all the staff at BaseballHQ

Keep Jo Walker at $5 in NL-only 5x5, extend him to $10, or drop?
Brent Hershey

Keep at 5; makes his ROI easier to attain.

When deciding whether or not to keep Jordan Walker at $5-Opt in a deep NL-only, his competition for last keeper spot is Porter Hodge at $10-2d.
Brent Hershey

Hmmm...  so hard to know from a big-market team if they'll stick by Hodge through the winter. If you have to make the keeper choice now, I'd probably stay with Walker at $5

Got em all! Huge thanks again to everyone for this season. We'll have some yearly wrap-up content coming to the site in the next weeks, both looking back, and looking forward to 2025. Our books will be available for pre-order very soon, so keep an eye out for that. Thanks again, and we'll be in touch ...
