Appreciate your many short-and-sweet questions, Andy! GL this week and throughout the offseason!

2024: Will Curtis Mead contribute in TB next season, or will he likely just be in a rotation as TB often does?
Brent Hershey
12:48
Think he's a rotation guy. Will contribute, but will be tough to time the starts, a la Josh Lowe / Raley / Parades etc this year

12:51
thanks so much for your help this year. I'm in a mixed roto keeper league and was curious your thoughts on Johan Rojas, James Outman, or Yoshida for 2024 and beyond. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:51
You're welcome!

Outman / Yoshida ahead of Rojas next year for sure. Outman a tick more preferable to me due to power/speed combo; and surrounding lineup (more R/RBI opps). Rojas more of a longer term play ... if he can prove to hit enough, defensive value could/should keep him in lineup, and crazy speed will next him SB. Could well need more seasoning in 2024 in the minors, though.

Thanks Brent for the in-season advice! Made a run down 24 points in June, but will probably finish just shy of 3rd. So what happened to Rowdy Tellez? Can he rebound next season? I'm in an 8 keeper NL-keeper league, HR and RBI was my teams worst stats. When do you think James Wood be up in the majors, considering keeping him. Looking forward to the postseason!
Brent Hershey
12:53
Need to look into it more, but generally dubious on a Rowdy rebound. Definitely not an 8-keeper consideration for me. Would probably keep Wood; should be up next year though AA was a bit more a test than anticipated. But lotsa fantasy goodness to dream on there. Enjoy the playoffs!

Kahnle just hit the IL and today's game may be rained out. Is Ian Hamilton worth a shot for a saves desperate owner?
Brent Hershey
12:54
Yes, given this specific situation.

Considering 2024 keeper value (5x5 OBP), assuming equal cost, would you prefer a stashed Rhys Hoskins and his track record (one year removed) or a more up and coming 1B option that showed growth this year (Tork, Casas, N. Jones)?
Brent Hershey
12:56
Up and comer for sure, as Hoskins' OBP/ BB% had taken a step back in '21 and '22. And not sure where he lands in 2024.

Now that we have had a year with the new MLB rules, curious if you are making any tweaks to your draft / auction plan next year.  I know for sure I have to target more SBs, as one example.
Brent Hershey
12:58
That's one possibility, but also considering shifting a bit more towards SP depth during the draft. Could just be me, but so many of my teams struggled w/ finding decent SP. (Also known as My Aaron Nola Problem, lol)

Good afternoon...scouts seem divided on the power that Evan Carter will or won't achieve in the majors...so far, it's been encouraging to see the HRs he has hit...what say you regarding his long term outlook for power?
Brent Hershey
12:59
He's over his head re: HR right now, but youth + hit tool foundation bodes well for his future IMO. Think his long-term power outlook will be fine.

Would you start Kutter Crawford against Baltimore this week?
Brent Hershey
1:00
Kutter has made me nervous for a bunch of weeks now and been on my bench. He's staying there where I have other options.

Has Gore done enough this year to be considered a post-hype prospect keeper?
Brent Hershey
1:00
Yeah, as long as you don't get too crazy. Was an important growth season for him.

Thanks for the chats this year .  Looking to pick up a two start pitcher in the NL.  Need wins and k’s…do you prefer houser or z. Thompson ?  If you have any strong opinion of saves this week in the cubs pen, please share.
Brent Hershey
1:02
Houser, I guess? Merryweather, but not sure it's a strong opinion with rumblings of AA on his way back. But maybe you hope AA isn't quite ready.

Thanks for the chat.  Could you please rank the following for keeper purposes:  E. Perez, G-Rod, G. Williams, H. Greene.
Brent Hershey
1:03
Gah. Stared at that for a bit, and think you have the order right. If I knew Greene could throw more strikes, he's probably be #2. All super options in keepers, though.

One more player evaluation for you: Joe Boyle. I know he only has two pitches but they are two really good pitches. Is this a sleeper for 2024?
Brent Hershey
1:04
Needs to prove he can throw strikes at MLB level. Too many minors reports of him having no idea where it's going. Stuff is great, but hone in on spring training command and let that make the decision for you.

I have 3 starts remaining (ip league) with gaus vs yanks, burnes v cards, grod v nats and wheeler v mets and my only goal is to maximize QS. Worried about a short leash with burnes and wheeler, which 3 starts to send?
Brent Hershey
1:07
Should not be worried about short starts for Wheeler or Burnes. Both are on turn for G1 of their Wild Cards next Tuesday so think they go as deep as they can Burnes, though, the shakiest of the four performance-wise IMO. He'd be the one to sit if I had to.

Will Vest, Thielbar, Emilio Pagan, or Taylor Clarke for a desperation save this week?
Brent Hershey

Clarke, then Vest.

Final week in deep roto league and in a dogfight with the top 4... lots of WHIP downside (basically atop a 4-way near-tie down to .001) but also points to be gained in Ks / Ws. With that... would you start Mitch Keller (@PHI, MIA) for the volume or stick with a "safer" one-starter (Maeda, Pivetta, Peterson)?
Brent Hershey
1:10
Love roto just b/c of stuff like this -- play all year, and you're still virtually tied! Given that one of those Keller starts is in PHI ... I'd probably choose Maeda instead. But Keller over the other two options.

12 team AL only keeper traditional 5X5 - I was hoping to get your impressions of Jordan Westburg's performance so far.  How do you see his role evolving next year in the context of a potentially crowded BALT infield?
Brent Hershey
1:13
I think he sticks around and likely ends up with a lot of time at 2B with  Holliday (SS) and Gunnar (3B) locking down that left side of the IF. The fact that JW can play both of those also helps, especially since Holliday/Gunnar are lefties. I'm still of the ilk that once Holliday is ready (could even be Opening day) they HAVE to move on from at least a couple of Mateo/Frazier/Urias, right? Right?

And oh, those Orioles are gonna be scary for a while, assuming they continue to seek out/develop some SP.

Final week need power? Olivares / Pereira / Dalbec

Dalbec, then Olivares

Well, that's a wrap! Got to 'em all — huge props again for all the great questions and the great season. As I mentioned, will try to crank these up again in late November/early December as we'll be turning the corner to 2024 by then for sure. Note a couple other great offers we have -- First Pitch Arizona weekend in Phoenix from Nov 2-5; 2024 Baseball Forecasters will be available for sale within the week ... and there's some pretty awesome things brewing with the BHQ website side, too, for 2024.
1:18
For now, enjoy the final week; spend your winnings wisely; but most of all have fun and enjoy the playoffs and offseason. Talk to you very soon!
