probably don't have much of a choice but to start Dugger
Brian Batko
12:34
They could start Ramsey and Juan Thornhill and play a lot of two-high but that would leave them susceptible to the run. And Thornhill seems to be persona non grata at the moment given his struggles against the Packers.

of all the defensive disappointments is JPJ…hasnt taken any type of step so far.  not even sure he gets second contract here
Brian Batko
12:44
I think he can still make that leap. It's in there somewhere. But yes, I agree, he came on like a stud his rookie year, convincing the Steelers to let him shadow No. 1 receivers when that was something they rarely did. And he probably won more than he lost! But where's the development? Same could be said about several players on this team.

I have been rooting for another WR before the deadline. Even with the Dugger trade I now think even another DB may be a good idea.

What if they lose today. Would Omar Khan be inclined to do anything?

12:45
I hope Tomlin realizes that there is basically very little hope of stopping the Colts today on defense so concentrate on holding onto the ball and scoring as many TDs as possible
Brian Batko
12:45
Maybe that's why they have five running backs active today joy
rman
12:47
Maybe today is the day Watt reclaims his game wrecker status.
Brian Batko
12:48
What's funny is that, on paper, this would be the perfect game to flip sides more for Watt. Colts LT Bernhard Raimann isn't a bad player but he's allowed five sacks per PFF. RT Braden Smith has allowed zero.

Watt doesnt switch sides though, right?

If Dugger is starting, that is a very very bad sign that a guy coming off the street can come in and start for the Steelers today.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:50
Yep. He pretty much has to start. No one else is left
Brian Batko
12:50
It probably would've been Chuck Clark, Jabrill Peppers or both but they're sick and hurt.
Sunner in Orlando from Lebo
12:51
Why is Watt so stubborn and only wants to come off the left side when they obviously have schemed him out of a pass rush by having a tight end chip him as they make Watt go wider than usual to try to get to the quarterback
Brian Batko
12:52
He's long been comfortable with that side and the way he can attack the QB from there. But he's also said he's not opposed to switching it up, so I don't know what to tell you on that.

Brian and Ray, do you think the Steelers rise up today or is it more of the same? I don’t feel real confident. They look exactly like they did at the last four games of last year where they were getting gashed both on the run and in the passing game.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:52
I don't have a lot of hope for the defense, but maybe the offense can rise up.

Have either of you seen Rodgers throw a pass after he hurt his finger on the center snap exchange with Frasier that hurt him?

12:53
do we think that Dugger addition helps the secondary? or just a band-aid?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:53
Yes he seems fine. Appears he jammed his pinky on his throwing hard. But I saw him throw several passes after that happened including some deep balls, and he looked OK.
Brian Batko
12:54
It depends if Dugger can still play. In theory, another big body at safety in place of DeShon Elliott can't hurt. But he was barely getting any run with the Patriots.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:54
Kyl Dugger is indeed starting. He was introduced with the starters.
Brian Batko
12:55
OK folks, I'm gonna get ready to lock in here in the press box. We'll see if the Steelers can piece things together today with so many franchise legends on hand for it. If not, it'll be another dark afternoon on the North Shore.
Ray Fittipaldo

OK Paul Zeise will be taking you from here. Enjoy the game.

Any different scheme planned today? Looks like Highsmith and Watt can’t get to the QB. What can be done schematically or is it effort and talent that will get them to the quarterback?

When the Vegas line seems out of whack, the game usually goes the way one wouldn't expect.   2 1/2 gives me hope, nothing else about this match up gives me optimism.

If Cincy loses today I would think they would feel the Steelers are still in the hunt. Even if Cincy wins don't the steelers still control their own destiny?

Wacky things can and do happen all the in the NFL.  Maybe the defense holds them to less than 24 points... HA!  Who am I kidding???
Sunner in Orlando from Lebo

If the Steelers win the toss, do they take the ball or do they let the Colts go on offense first? I say take the ball first try to get up on them and put some pressure on them immediately. I just think if the Colts go down and score easily on the first drive, that might take the wind out of the steel or sales and it’ll be a game of catch-up all day.

Steichen is going to clean Tomlin's clock.

Wow if duggers the new guy is starting this could get ugly quick unless safety play doesnt matter.
Keys to game JJ said they have to communicate and tackle.    How to say a defense sucks without saying a defense sucks

If the Steelers get blown out today, they gotta think long and hard about dismantling this team and starting over because the season will be lost as the ravens are gonna win the division easily with a very soft schedule ahead. That includes coming to a mutual agreement with Tomlin to move on.
"Historic" Defense

I've always been skeptical of the "no losing seasons" line. Do you think we'd see a significantly different reaction from management if we go 8-9 instead of 9-8?
OneAndDone

I think they need to take the ball first.  You don't want to start from behind right away.
