Welcome to our pregame Steelers chat. Let's get it going with your questions. I'll be around for the next two hours or so along with Brian Batko before Paul Zeise joins you closer to kickoff.

'member when Dandy Don would fall back into the pool of ice tea... the good'ol days of MNF commercialism.  HOW-ward CO-sell

"Turn out the lights the party's over." Dandy Don is a little before my time, but I know my dad hated him. ha ha.

'member watching MNF from the bedroom steps, because it was a school night, and your parents hadn't yet started putting shots of Amaretto in your bedtime ice-cream snack to help you 'sleep better

We were allowed to watch the first quarter, maybe the first half. I would wake up on Monday and my dad would have the box score written out on a sheet of paper. He would tape it to the bedroom door before he left for work. That's how we found out if the Steelers won or lost. My, how times have changed. Kids probably wake up in the middle of the night and check their phones to find out who won.

There was some Steelers news about an hour ago. Roman Wilson has been placed on IR, along with a few other moves. Here's the link: https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2024/10/28/rookie-wr-roma...
6:10
And we're waiting on some news on Justin Fields. The Steelers listed him as questionable on Saturday, after tweaking his hamstring in practice last week.
6:12
A few players have made their way onto the field early to toss the ball around. Minkah Fitzpatrick and Payton Wilson are two of the first to come out.

Hey Ray,
I know you will be asked this a bunch, but this has all the makings of a classic "trap game." Dont expect a blow out but I feel comfortable.  Does your gut have any feeling of a "OMG the steelers stunk tonight?," similar to last years Patriots game
Ray Fittipaldo

This is the NFL. Any given Sunday, or in this case, Monday. Look at what happened yesterday with the Ravens losing to the Browns. If you let a team hang around you can lose. All of these players are getting paid for a reason. I do like the matchup of the Steelers defense versus the Giants offense. I can't see the Giants scoring a lot of points unless the Steelers offense turns it over and they get short fields. The Giants defense isn't bad. I wouldn't be surprised if the offense had some struggles again.

Ray: only Jones scrambling and Nabers on quick slants with run after catch are likely to hurt us.  Will Austin/Tomlin wait until we are down 14-0 to clamp down on that or will they be ready early?
Ray Fittipaldo

I wrote about the slow starts over the weekend. Several opponents have scored touchdowns on the Steelers in the first quarter. The Colts scored two touchdowns in the first quarter. They want to play better early, but as I wrote they finish games better than anyone right now. Here is the link: https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2024/10/27/mike-tomlin-ru...

Hey everyone. Personally, I didn’t envision the Steelers using Justin Fields much if at all this week, so can’t imagine his availability changes much unless Russell Wilson gets nicked up by this dangerous defensive front for the Giants.

Hello Ray and thank you for your insightful chats and articles.  Are you aware if Tomlin is discouraged about Roman Wilson’s efforts?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:20
Not his efforts, but I'm sure he's discouraged by his inability to stay healthy. It's looking like a lost season for him. I'd be surprised if he is activated off IR, unless there is another injury to a WR, and they need a body.

Hi Ray, is there any other team that has so many self-inflicted injuries with their quarterbacks? First Russell Wilson battles a blocking sled in camp and loses. Then Fields pulls a hammy during a walk-thru!!!  What’s next?  Wilson and Fields performing hands-on volunteer work, during their bye week, at a facility that sharpens knives?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:22
Injuries happen, but the Steelers have had an inordinate number of soft tissue injuries this year, especially hamstrings and groins.

Thanks for the chat Ray and Brian. With Jameis Winston looking pretty effective for the Browns and Jayden Daniels turning the Commanders into a strong team, it seems like the Steelers are going to be running into a series of buzz saws after the break. If they win tonite, is 11-6 within reach?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:27
The schedule definitely gets more difficult, but I don't know about the Browns being a buzzsaw with Winston at QB. If Hamilton catches that INT we're not having this discussion. Daniels will be a tough matchup. His running ability makes him a more difficult matchup than Winston in my mind. Having said that, it's not like the Commanders were hitting on all cylinders yesterday. Their Hail Mary was answered, but there was some tough sledding for their offense before that.

Bats, is Fields QB2 or Kyle is? (sorry if its already been announced, just getting home from work)
Brian Batko
6:31
Hi Mike. That's what remains to be seen. Has not been announced yet. Inactives will be released at 6:45, so 15 minutes from now. He's not testing much of anything right now, just chatting with the other QBs and coaches.

6:33
Do you see Montravius Adams taking snaps at WR at any time this season?
Brian Batko
6:33
No but maybe he'd be a pretty good blocking WR.
6:35
Justin Fields is throwing now but I haven't seen him do anything more than a light jog as far as seeing how the hamstring feels. Looks fine throwing it.

6:35
Good heavens, talk about a brain cramp! I meant Cordarrelle Patterson, and don't ask me how I confused those names. I hope the Steelers have a better night than I am!
Brian Batko
6:36
Well they both have injuries so I'll let it slide. Neither one gonna play tonight but Mon Adams is on IR and Cordarrelle Patterson is probably good to go after the off week. I don't see him doing much at WR after that though.
Ray Fittipaldo
6:40
It's been Russell Wilson then Kyle Allen and then Justin Fields throwing to the wideouts in warmups. Read into that what you will.
6:50
Our Gerry Dulac is reporting Justin Fields will be inactive tonight. The other inactives will be out in a few minutes.
6:52
Steelers inactives for tonight:No. 2 QB Justin Fields (3rd QB)
No. 21 CB C.J. Henderson
No. 51 LB Nick Herbig
No. 54 C Zach Frazier
No. 84 RB/KR Cordarrelle Patterson

Hi Ray!  What is up with all these hamstring injuries?  Is there a flaw in our conditioning staff!?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:54
There is a new strength and conditioning staff this year. I'm sure the Steelers will take a long look at it after the season ends, but that's not a good development for the new coaches.

Maybe its because its close to Halloween but I have a serious case of the heebie jeebies for this game.  All the makings of classic Tomlin trap game.

7:04
You never know. The last time the Steelers lost on Monday Night Football was 1991... to the New York Giants.
Pjsmith67
7:06
wow, has it been that long?
Ray Fittipaldo
7:06
Yep

7:07
that must lost at home, because I do remember a few MNF stinkers since then
Ray Fittipaldo
7:07
Last home loss was to the Giants in 1991.

1991, Was that Jeff Hostetler for the G-Men?
Ray Fittipaldo
7:22
Note sure. Maybe that was before Phil Simms was injured.

7:29
I actually remember that game... Steelers rallied from a 20-0 deficit only to lose on a late FG.
