Welcome Steelers fans. Let's get the chat going. We are two hours from kickoff.

Do you think if Steelers are behind at half & Wilson is looking bad because of the defense pressure Fields will come in the 2nd half
Ray Fittipaldo
6:20
Absolutely not. This is Wilson's first start. They will give him some time to get comfortable.

Here's a theory: What Steelers and MT call a "conservative" game plan is what opposing DC's call "predictable." A win or loss often is based on a roughly 50/50 chance of a forced turnover, fortuitous flag, 60-yd FG, tipped pass, etc. Could this be why Steelers have been a roughly .500 team (9-8, 10-7, 9-8 etc.) and get blown out in playoffs? As long as this "game plan" persists, it's hard to see how the Steelers return to glory. Love the chats and love to hear any thoughts; thanks!
Ray Fittipaldo
6:23
Would you call going to Wilson "conservative"? I don't think it's easy to change QBs after a 19-point win on the road, but I give Tomlin credit for doing it. He says the Steelers have been good but not great. Maybe there is another level with Wilson. And maybe some of those slow starts in the first half won't happen because Wilson is able to complete more passes than Fields. Listen, Fields did well with his opportunity, but you're not going anywhere in the postseason throwing for 167 yards per game. Can we all agree on that?

Tomlin was quoted by his friend on fox saying he wants to win a world championship.  155ish yard passing a game isn't how to do it.  Do you think Tomlin is in remedial offense denial or he gets it. By getting it I mean willing to let Arthur Smith run the offense without the training wheels.
Ray Fittipaldo
6:25
Arthur Smith called some shots down the field against the Colts. Fields did not complete them. He did the same against the Cowboys. Maybe not as many but there were opportunities. They need to sustain drives in the first half and get some early momentum. If Wilson can do that it might give them a better chance of winning.

Tomlin says he's the Lone Ranger.  How many Tonto's might there be in the Locker room if they lose saying "hey Kimosabi, you messing with our future?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:28
Justin Fields has gained a lot of respect in the locker room, and I think it's obvious Arthur Smith is a big fan. But just because people in the building appreciate what he did for the team does not mean Wilson cannot or will not be a better option. No one knows how this will play out, but as I mentioned earlier I like the long-term planning by Tomlin. At some point they had to find out what Wilson could do with this offense.

This maybe a dumb question...but have the Steeler Organization considered checking Justin Fields eye sight? I'm referring to depth perception and peripheral view. Most of his problem stems from either over throwing receivers or missing open receivers.

6:29
Hi everyone. Until last week, I didn't have too many issues with Fields' accuracy. The missing open receivers part has been there, but that can be a tricky one to evaluate. We're not always privy to conversations being had on the sidelines about how aggressive they're trying to be, what Fields is thinking in that moment about whom to target, etc.
Ray Fittipaldo
6:30
This seemed to be a big topic this week so I'll answer before you turn on your TVs. The end zones are not painted yellow. The Steelers don't pain the end zones until after Pitt's home schedule is completed.

Is Minkah washed?  He hasn’t been a playmaker in a couple years.
Ray Fittipaldo
6:31
No, he's right in his prime. They need some big plays from him, and they'll get them eventually. But it's not like he's playing bad. The ball just hasn't found him yet.
Jack from Farrell
6:33
Now that the browns need a QB is Omar planning on trading Field’s to them for a couple #1 picks?  That’s the reason Field’s isn’t staring.
Ray Fittipaldo
6:33
Hey, DTR beat the Steelers last year, didn't he? The Browns can't be any worse with him at QB.
KJ
6:34
If Russ is starting tonight, do you predict a much more open offensive playbook for the Steelers?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:35
No, the Steelers have a formula, and it won't change much with Wilson at QB. It might seem like it's more wide open if he completes a few more passes, but it won't be.

Thanks for the chats, Ray, any confidence JPJ or DJ can keep up with Adams and Wilson?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:40
Well, it's a tough matchup for the Steelers secondary. The pass rush has to come through tonight. The good news is Alex Highsmith is back. The bad news is Rodgers knows how to get the ball out quick. I think the Steelers are going to have to get to 20 to win this game. They won't shut down Rodgers and their receivers for 60 minutes.
SteelerNation Boston
6:40
Hi Ray, that's what I meant by my question above: The formula is conservative = predictable, which is why Steelers rarely have comfortable wins and games often are decided by 50/50 props like a strip sack, penalty, INT, etc. I think statistically that's why they hover around .500 under the currrent coach.
Ray Fittipaldo
6:41
I get it, but my point was the offense might not look as conservative if Wilson makes more plays than Fields.
Soggy
6:41
Do you expect a couple of situational packages for Fields tonight?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:42
I do, but it will depend on game situations and where they are on the field. I think goal-to-go situations are the most likely scenario where we'll see him.
KJ
6:43
How many targets does George Pickens get tonight with Russ at QB?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:43
I'll say 8-10.
6:44
We'll have inactives in about five minutes. Damontae Kazee was downgraded to questionable yesterday so that's one name to watch.
KJ
6:45
I see special teams as being a pivotal part of the game tonight.  Which team do you give the edge to in special teams?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:46
Definitely the Steelers. They have one of the best kickers in the league and Corliss Waitman has been very good since Cam Johnston got injured. The Jets aren't as strong at either position.
KJ
6:46
Do you see Muth being more involved in the offense tonight? Like you, Ray, I also have him on my fantasy team.
Ray Fittipaldo
6:47
I do. I think the two biggest beneficiaries of the switch to Wilson are Freiermuth and George Pickens. They'll try to establish the run as always, but Wilson knows the importance of getting his best pass catchers involved in the game.
KJ
6:48
What kind of running holes do you see for Najee and Warren tonight? How stout is the Jets defense vs. the run?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:50
The Jets have a good defense overall. Obviously, they're known for their secondary with Sauce Gardner, but they're pretty good up front too. They're second in the league in total defense and seventh in points against. They're middle of the pack in run defense, giving up 124 yards per game on the ground.
KJ
6:52
I certainly hope you are right about Pickens and Muth being more involved in the offense tonight! I saw that Tyreek Hill only had 2 targets today in the Dolphins loss - how is that possible?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:52
Tua still not playing and opposing defense can take away the best receivers from other teams if no one else is capable of stepping up.
6:53
No. 4 QB Kyle Allen (3rd QB)
No. 10 WR Roman Wilson
No. 23 S Damontae Kazee
No. 33 RB Aaron Shampklin
No. 51 LB Nick Herbig
No. 54 C Zach Frazier
No. 84 RB/KR Cordarrelle Patterson
Steelers inactives for tonight are above

I just popped downstairs at Acrisure Stadium for the gathering of 1974 alumni. Lots of luminaries including Mel Blount, Donnie Shell, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Rocky Bleier, Mike Wagner, JT Thomas
Ray Fittipaldo
6:55
Kazee missing the game might be a big deal. He's the third safety and we all know the Jets are going to pass, pass, pass. I kind of knew yesterday when they elevated Brandon Johnson that Roman Wilson would not play. Tough rookie season for him with the injuries.

Ray - thanks for the chat. Any indication of plans for schematic differences with Russ? Fields still coming in? Gotta like the willingness to make the move. Fields was a gamer and deserves credit for 4 wins, go ahead TD in last 2 mins against DAL, and near comeback in Indy without snap snafu and MT typical disastrous 2 min clock management. Still, Fields was 6.9 YPA this year and career 7.0. KP8 6.2. Neither is going to be NFL competitive without seeing the open lanes to allow for longer passes and YPC. Russ is 7.7 - give him a shot. The one outlier - Rudolph in '23 was 9.7:)
