Lots of people criticizing Tomlin for making the move, but I'm not one of them. It makes all the sense in the world to see what they have in Wilson.

I can certainly see the advantage of Fields running ability for the Steelers.  Can we expect to see him on the field in some running situations? Or does Russ not come off the field unless he gets injured?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:58
Yes but only in certain situations.
KJ
6:58
How did Russ look in practice this week taking all of the first team reps?
Ray Fittipaldo
6:58
It's only practice, but his arm looked good. He was making all the throws.

It appears Jonathan Ward has surpassed Aaron Shampklin in the RB rotation, given that he's elevated from the practice squad and Shampklin is a healthy inactive. Cordarrelle Patterson didn't practice at all this week.

I think Tomlin made a strong argument for why he needs to see Wilson play.   I totally agree with it.  Not a question obviously.

How do you expect the Offensive Line to perform tonight, given the "patch-work" nature of their lineup?
Ray Fittipaldo
7:01
The key player to watch tonight is C Ryan McCollum. He's making his second NFL start and his first in almost three years.
KJ
7:01
So, does Terrell Edmunds get the start at strong safety with Kazee ruled out for tonight?
Ray Fittipaldo
7:02
No that's DeShont Elliott, but he'll be the third safety now.
Brian Batko
7:02
Arthur Smith at midfield talking to Jets staffers and I believe one of them is WR coach Shawn Jefferson, dad of Van. Think he's telling Art to scheme up some catches for his son?
Stillers6
7:04
you think the 1974 luminaries can get through to George MeMeMe Pickens
Brian Batko
7:04
Uh...no.
Ray Fittipaldo
7:09
Chris Boswell ends his pregame warmup by booting a 59-yarder.
KJ
7:09
Any chance for a surprise appearance by Terry Bradshaw tonight?
Brian Batko
7:09
Uh...no.

andy reid offensive guru.  Tomlin a defensive guru.                Reid has far more success.         Do you think Art2 is even aware of the difference?
Ray Fittipaldo
7:10
Funny but Reid has a guy named Patrick Mahomes. He wasn't nearly as smart when he was in QB purgatory in his final years in Philly. I'm not taking anything away from the guy, but the Steelers beat him on the road in a playoff game when Alex Smith was his QB. He got a lot smarter when Mahomes took over the next season.

Gotta say - this is setting up badly for PIT. Patchwork OL against a stiff Jets DL. Rodgers off a poor prime time game. Adding Davante. Jets desperate and the worse record is a road favorite in primetime?!

Tell me why it'll be ok Ray and Brian cause I'm usually positive about PIT at home in primetime but I'm not seeing it tonight.

Maybe they come out with Russ throwing first 10 plays to get them on their heels, loosen up the run, and change expectations??
Ray Fittipaldo
7:13
I can see the matchup issues, but the Jets are 2-4 and might still be in disarray after firing their coach a couple of weeks ago. Rodgers threw a teammate under the bus blamed him for their last loss. They definitely have some issues. I'm picking the Steelers, but I think it will be a close game.
KJ
7:15
I hate to say this, being a lifelong Steelers fan, but I agree with YinzerinBoston - I have an uneasy feeling heading into tonight's game.  Can the Steelers defense "carry the day" again?
Ray Fittipaldo
7:16
Highsmith coming back helps. The Jets have given up 16 sacks, just like the Steelers. Watt and Highsmith have to be effective. I would expect the Jets to keep some TEs and RBs in to help with pass pro. Secondary has to cover up Adams and Wilson in those situations.
KJ
7:18
The Jets OL has been problematic for years now.  How do you expect the Steelers defense to take advantage of that perceived weakness? Do you see Cam continuing his dominant play?
Ray Fittipaldo
7:18
Cam has been terrific through the first six games of the season. Rodgers isn't as mobile as he used to be, so pressure up the middle will be effective against him.

7:21
I’d like to see Russ come out throwing it a lot the first series too.  What do you think?
Ray Fittipaldo
7:22
Not so sure about that. The Jets' secondary is their strength. I think they'll come out and try to play ball control That might involve more passing than when Fields is the QB, but the plan is not to have him throw it 40 times.
7:27
Looks like Jaylen Warren and Jonathan Ward will be back for kickoffs tonight with Cordarrelle Patterson out again.
Yitzer
7:30
Was Warren full participant all week in practice this week or slowly brought up to speed later in the week.  He could be key to the ground game for sure.
Ray Fittipaldo
7:31
He was full all week. One of these weeks he's going to break out and give the Steelers that second option they expected in the backfield.

7:31
Will the O-line give Russ enough time to excel?
Ray Fittipaldo
7:32
That's certainly something to watch. Getting the run game going early will help with that. Will McDonald has seven sacks. He's been good off the edge. Another good test for Broderick Jones and Dan Moore.
Yitzer
7:33
Who are the starting 5 on O-line tonight
Ray Fittipaldo
7:33
From left to right: Dan Moore, Isaac Semualo, Ryan McCollum, Mason McCormick and Broderick Jones.
7:35
They just showed Russell Wilson talking to the team in the tunnel before they ran out for warmups. Big cheer by the fans who are already in the bowl.
7:37
Ryan McCollum, Mason McCormick and Max Scharping are snapping to the QBs pregame.

Wow just saw the video of the Browns fans chanting "You deserve this" when Watson was taken off the field on the cart
Ray Fittipaldo
7:37
Class acts.
Brian Batko
7:44
Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan chatting near the 50. Maybe doing some in-person scouting of Mike Williams, see if he wants to just stay in Pittsburgh tonight?
KJ
7:46
It was reported in the PG a couple of weeks ago that the Steelers DBs are coached to try and punch the ball loose to create turnovers - we see JPJ do this all the time and miss on easy tackles that would limit the result of certain plays.  Can we expect the DBs to make certain tackles and go for the ball at other more opportune times?
